EW Reveals 7 Season Plan

Westeros

Oberyn's inclusion probably involves him being a fan favorite and a part of one of the most iconic scenes of the series. The Dorne plot can happen without Aegon, maybe they'll cut Quentyn and have Dorne side with Dany anyway. You guys are making far too many assumptions about what has to be included in seasons 5-7 because you "have a feeling" those characters will be important in the end game.

Aegon has to be included because he'll probably sit on the Iron Throne? Give me a break, none of us know that for certain. We're getting 7 season, prepare yourselves for massive cuts and changes.

I never said he had to be included because he will sit the Iron Throne, but we know from the sample chapter that

Arianne will meet him in TWOW

which means he will cross his path with our main character from Dorne. Also Varys endgame was to put Aegon on the Throne, without him, Varys actions throught the series won't make any sense

...who we're not sure will be in season 5. I wasn't referring to you when I said the thing about Aegon being on the iron throne. But basically people are following a chain reaction of assumptions. Oberyn is introduced so we'll have to get Doran and Arianne, which means we need to get Oakheart, and then we'll need Aegon because he is in an Arianne chapter, which means we'll get Jon Connington.

We can't make these types of assumptions, TWOW and ADOS will have approximately one season each, which means the show has to make massive cuts to the subplots that GRRM introduced in AFFC/ADWD.

major charcters such as vic euron doran Arianne and aegon half to be introduced because they all are going to have an impact on how the series will end. yes some minor characters will be cut, but major ones should be still included.

The biggest problem excluding Aegon, is than who is meant to accompany Tyrion? Tyrion gets the most screen time, therefore I recon We may get Aegon. It doesnt mean that we have to see all his conquests, we can just hear it through conversation. I just feel that excluding Aegon makes things get messy. However I have the feeling that Arianne may get the role of Quentyn (obviously not getting BQQed), but meet with Aegon and promise him Dorne's support.

As for the Greyjoy uncles someone has already correctly stated that Tyrion mentions when he is at WF speaking to Theon, that his uncles were responsible for burning of fleet at Lannisport. So we will get Euron and Vic. I just doubt we will get a KM. As feel Stannis will go straight to WF, and not to Deepwood Motte.

I think what you'll find is not that major characters are eliminated necessarily but that they will not be given the same amount of narrative space on their own and will mainly be there when it is important for them to interact with the established characters.

For instance, you can have Quentyn but we won't see him doing his own things on his travels. He could interact with Doran and then we wouldn't see him again until he shows up in front of Dany. And you can have Victarion but you probably won't see much of him after he gets his marching orders from Euron and then he'll show up at Meereen when he's supposed to impact that story.

Yara (I imagine) will be thrown into Theon's story (the whole reason she's going to the Dreadfort IMO) and that way they don't need to devote extra screentime to tell her Deepwood Motte stuff alongside Theon's Winterfell stuff, they can both be in the same storyline together and then end up with Stannis which gets you back into the book timelines.

There's a lot of condensing that can happen in order to make this work. Again it should be stated that GRRM has given D&D the character paths of everyone important leading into the endgame of the story so they'll be able to guide everyone where they're supposed to go with a little creative license.

Jorah Mormont. Tyrion hangs with Illyrio in episode 1, travels with Illyrio's escort and at the end of episode 2 is caught in a brothel by Jorah. Jorah takes him towards Dany but they are captured and enslaved, the dragon pit happens around 7 or 8, because the battle of Meereen will probably be a climax of season 5. Viewers would much rather see Jorah earlier, and see Tyrion interact with Jorah instead of some bland new characters.

Remember that for S5 we'll be down Shae, Tywin, Ygritte, Joffrey, the Hound, Styr, Oberyn, the Mountain (kind of), Varys (possibly), Lysa, Rast, Rorge, Biter, Polliver, Myranda (maybe) and Balon. So you're going to have some room to add to the cast without making it more bloated.

I know we really can't make any assumption, and the show can go either way, we will have to wait and see. I just hope they keep Arianne, she's one of my favorite characters, and I have been waiting 4 years to see who they cast for her role

I know Jorah Mormont and Tyrion would have great interaction between each other, However just taking out Aegon, upsets the balance of the story. Thats just my opinion. But wouldnt mind to see Jorah, Tyrion get captured by Vic and head to Meeren, however they get caught in the storm and get ship wrecked while Vic's fleet carries on. I believe Tyrion becoming a slave they can exclude

Obviously D&D know better than us of whats important and whats not, and know who the big players will b in the end. But remember a lot of characters will be killed off this season.

I know, I do believe we'll get new supporting characters, but now with the 7 season plan I'm also expecting several prominent characters to get cut. I'm just saying we can't assume which ones are 'necessary' because of our own speculation on the end game. For all we know TWOW and ADOS has just as much bloat as AFFC/ADWD and only a few major plot details. Don't get me wrong, I loved AFFC/ADWD but you can't argue that they're as tight as the first 3 books. Those books were streamlined for the show, so I expect cuts to be more severe for AFFC/ADWD, especially since D&D will probably want to focus more on previously established characters like Arya and Sansa who didn't get much "screen time" in those two books. It doesn't make sense for those two to disappear while we spend time on supporting characters that aren't relevant to the plot yet.

Basically D&D are going to hurry up and move toward the end game with the characters we know and love instead of introducing too many new political subplots.

If I had to guess I'd wager that we get Doran, Arianne, Oakheart, Euron, and possibly Vic. Beyond that I think characters start to get real expendable. Again this all depends on who is important in the end game. Euron strikes me as an important end game villain because of his interest in dragons, Aegon actually turns away from dragons and end game and becomes just another policital player vying for the throne.

I know we have some major characters leaving after season 4, but I think a lot of that time will go towards the Starks that were neglected in books 4 and 5, especially Arya who is a big fan favorite.

Those look an awful lot like assumptions, too.

Except Tyrion and Jorah did travel together in book 5. It's not assuming something is going to happen in book 6-7, but streamlining the story as it all ready appeared in the books.

What baffles me is that a lot of people seem to think seven season is rushing things, while finishing the series in seven books, considering how many storylines have to be resolved seems to be possible.

I think it'll be easier for the TV series not to rush things because they are able to plan what's important and what's not, whereas the book series has become so massively huge, there is no way to end the whole story in two books without rushing things!

Right, they'll easily make it work in 7 seasons because they're not going to expand at the mid point as much as GRRM did.

The main issue the show has to deal with is the same thing it always has had to deal with: constructing episodes that shuttle between numerous storylines without making it seem like all we're doing is checking in on characters for 3 minutes before zipping off to the next group.

As long as you can consolidate the storylines to a manageable level, the plot itself is easy to manage. You can generally slow down or speed up that however you choose without it making a huge difference.

The reason Season 5 gives D&D nightmares is because AFFC/ADwD fragments storylines into too many places and you have to follow smaller and smaller groups of characters instead of having the easier job of just giving you multiple viewpoints of one overall setting like in King's Landing in previous seasons.

S4 is more streamlined than S3 but S5 would balloon out of control if they adhered to the book structure.

I'm thinking interviews with GRRM are going to be pretty awkward and uncomfortable going forward now that the seven season plan is public.

Last year the refrain was: "I know they're catching up and I'm trying to lay down track as fast as possible.." or something along those lines.

Now what does he say?

Yeah the structure of books 4 and 5 are very problematic, especially the lack of a major climax for many characters. That's why I think not only will AFFC/ADWD be wrapped up with season 5, but we'll be getting TWOW as well, because we'll need the battle of fire and/or ice to serve as a climax for that season. When you consider that it doesn't seem all that hard to wrap up the story with 2 more seasons.

He asks who your favorite character is and says "how interesting, it'd be a shame if something were to happen to them..."
