Catelyn Stark, Cersei Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen. What are some similarities between these three women who were miles and miles apart from each other?

I'll start first. All three of them have lost one of their children.

All would do anything for their children, although in Dany's case her "children" have scales, claws and wings. All had arranged marriages. Dany and Catelyn found happiness in theirs, Cersei did not. All of them "married up" (although the opposite could be argued for Daenerys). Catelyn married Eddard, as the North had been an independent kingdom while the Riverlands had not. Cersei was born into a high ranking family but married the High King. Dany was born in exile to wed the most powerful Dothraki warlord. Again, she is a Targaryen so it can be argued that she married below her station by wedding Khal Drogo.

All have fair hair: auburn, blonde and silver-blonde.

Auburn hair is not fair.

Well, in Dany's case, it would be more accurate to say that

she found happiness in one of her arranged/political marriages, while the other one was a disaster, even though she (albeit reluctantly and out of political desperation) agreed to it herself.

So, the percentage of successful arranged marriages for those three is 50%.

In both Dany's and Cersei's cases, one could argue that they were both "marrying up" (in terms of political status) and "marrying down" (in terms of how old and prestigious their families were compared to the family they married into), though the difference is much more striking with Dany. Robert was the king, and the Baratheons and the Lannisters are both great houses, but the Baratheons are far younger, having originated from Aegon the Conqueror's alleged bastard brother, while the Lannisters are among the oldest Andal nobility.

They are similar insofar as they are all 'strong', yet traditionally feminine women. They are all ambitious in their own way, but the ways they channel their ambition are completely different. - Cat has high hopes for her children, Cersei claims power in the name of her sons with the intention of ruling in their stead while Dany establishes herself as a monarch. All of them value family, but that's more a cultural thing.

Oh and all three of them get a disproportionate amount of hate in these boards.

I personally would not consider any of these women similar in any way (even though you guys did find a bunch of similarities). In overall personality they are all vastly different from each other...

Agreed. Being a mother, losing a child, being forced to marry etc. are all quite vague similarities that could be applied to A LOT of women in Westeros. I see no need to find any similarities between them at all. They are all individuals, not just women. When people call female characters "strong", they're usually just confused to see women portrayed as full characters.

Also was a cause of their husbands deaths:

Cat: she tells ned to go to Kings Landing( not knowing that she was being setup)

Cersei: Really, do I need to say more

Dani: Hounding KD to go to KL,/ The attempt on her life, causing KD to go on the raids in order to get money to hire ships. Having MMD healing KD ( though Drogo took off the medicine.) Still all this was done for dani so she could take the Irion Throne.

All 3 women were somehow the cause of their husbands deaths.
