Chatty Duelist
Based on how decrepit castles get after just a few centuries (living in a town with a 950-year-old Norman castle built on top of a 2,000-year-old Roman temple), I've always taken it with a very large grain of salt that Winterfell, Storm's End etc are actually the original castles. Built on the same site, yes, but I think both castles (and most of the rest of them) are the result of gradual decline and rebuilding over millennia so very little of the original structures are left, if anything. Werthead for King.
