Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D - The Skye is Falling

I think no matter whether it was planned from the beginning or not, this clearly shows that it was good that the actor nor the directors knew about Ward beforehand. Because "act casual, but in an evil way" is not subtle. But as the show is generally pretty on the nose, so I simply enjoy the colour that was injected when Paxton and Ward started hamming it up.

Best marks since Romanoff!!!

Seriously, even allowing for the idea that he was planned to be evil all along and so occasionally screwed up on purpose, he's been shown to be bad at some pretty basic spy stuff over the course of the series so far. Nothing new there.

But they're clearly aiming for a big showdown between loyalists and traitors for the season (series?) finale, so Ward outing himself serves that plot.

What could have been fun would have been to let the viewers in on Ward being up to something early on, and seeing that play out until the Hydra reveal. But then again it would also have been fun if the show had been good, with well developed characters so that their world is crumbling around them we would actually care about them.

The "Do you want me to lie to you now?" scene?

I agree with every thing you said about Ward. Also the show in general. I had just watched the episode last night. And the hamminess grated a little. But it is still a more fun version than the pre-Hydra Ward.

I love that scene from Angel too.

Great scene, but I think WA meant this one. Angel spoilers (obviously.)

But yeah this one.

Angel spoiler

"Why can't I stay?" :crying:

Damn you reminding me of those scenes from Angel! They are brilliantly done and reminds me of just how good those actors (and character arcs) are. It's a shame we dont' see as much of Alexis Denisof these days (i think he was in Avengers as Thanos' monster servant?). I know he was suffering from Bell's pallsy (paralyses part of the face which is death for an actor) for a while

which he had through the final season of show meaning his acting is even more impressive

but he's fully recovered now. I'd be happy to see him in a show again.

The "Damn you" part is because being reminded of "Angel" does not help SHIELD at all.

EDIT - he's apparently in the third season of Grimm. Maybe I should give that show a try

Hahaha you're right I'm sorry. But in the same vein (of being off topic) I've been watching Grimm. I obviously can't speak to your taste. But it hasn't been too bad. And Alexis has been an entertaining addition.

I have a box set of season one - I just never got around to it. I think it was because it's a bit like Supernatural and at the time I was done with Supernatural.

Trying to talk about SHIELD - has it really not being renewed yet? The ratings are decent so the only reason I think they'd ditch it would be to protect the overal MU brand as it is without doubt their worst attempt (the animated films are pretty bad too but they aren't part of the MCU). I could see them canning it and starting afresh with the netflix shows next year. It would be a shame as I think there's a good show in here somewhere and recent episodes have the been entertaining. Maybe some new blood for a season 2 reworking? It's a shame Tim Minear is under contract with Fox although it's just been announced that Fox are thinking of extending their X-men franchise into TV. They should get Tim on that.

Uncertain about if this'll get a second season or not, though I am hoping it does. If it does then I'm guessing they'll roll in Tripplet to replace Ward and bring in Maria Hill because Cobie Smulders needs work after the disastrous end of HIMYM and she's set to appear in the final few episodes anyway. Maybe they'll axe May and she'll replace her.

Fun fact: On the commentary for the season five premiere Joss talks about filming around that. Now that's all I notice. But yeah, it's a shame he doesn't get more work.

So, acknowledging that I gave up on this show very early on, and that I've been reading through this thread, it seems that the general mood towards the show has improved, should I pick it back up?

It has had a good run of episodes but that doesn't mean much. From episode 16, it's been pretty good but I don't give these writers a ton of credit so they could just as easily fuck it up before the end of the season.

I kept going, and whilst the show has only really started to deliver consistently (don't get me wrong there are still failings a plenty,) I don't think I ever got the general hatred of the show.

As such I'd advise picking up from where you left off, but if you can't bear to do that, picking up from 14. T.A.H.I.T.I

Or if you can't stomach even that: 17. Turn ,Turn ,Turn which is when the Hydra stuff happens

It was good of them to work around it and I agree you look for it once you know.

RE SHIELD - I think if it was bad enough for you to quit it maybe still isn't worth bothering. If you were really on the fence and now have more time for TV then give it another go. I'd say try again from episode 13 as that's where it managed to keep me on board (I'd stored up a few episodes and that was the one where I didn't wait too long to watch another). Since episode 15 it's become a show where I'll watch the new episode within the week it airs. It generally feels like there is some momentum of improvement happening. Still not great but at least moving the right way

Since they mentioned that every prisoner in the Fridge was released are they going after the Abomination?

They could be, but you'd think he'd have been mentioned, being a colossal destruction monster. He's more likely in a specialist cage somewhere like the one they built for Hulk.

There was a short on one of the DVD's and Coulson mentions that the Abomination is being stored at the Fridge.

Oh right, I don't recall that. Do you know if they'd doing the abomination as permanently in his 'abomination' form, or that he can be human as well? If it's the former I find it odd that we didn't see him escaping.

Well it's not that I hated it, I just didn't love it. It takes a lot for a show to hook me, and my expectations weren't quite met considering who was behind the show. (This is before I realized Joss was really only involved in the pilot)

After that it was just so meh that I couldn't get myself to watch it every week.

I'll be sure to give it a go once the dvd comes out. As long as it has a direction now, I'm more on board.

I had the same problem with Almost Human. I was really excited by the premise, but something let me down.

Now, Almost Human was fantastic. I just didn't like the fact it was a procedural.

Well in the comics the Abomination was stuck in his Gamma form but who knows in the movies/TV show.

ABC hasn't announced any renewals. They're not into doing earlier renewals like some other networks are.

There's what, 3 more episodes left?

They're obviously going to have to tie up at least a few loose ends one way or another.

Some series take a while to get going (Stargate SG-1, Walking Dead) so I would think that it would get renewed for at least one more season. I don't think it's a GREAT show, but it's entertaining and it has a lot of potential.

Besides, we have to find out why Skye is so special

Hmmm...still get the feeling that they're trying to set Ward up for some sort of redemption arc...

I'm torn, part of me wants Ward redeemed but the other part wants him to stay all out evil and Ward is a straight psychopath he was totally obsessing about Skye, that relationship is getting creepy, I like it kinda.
