Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D - The Skye is Falling

I can see only one way in which a Ward "redeemed" story would turn out even a little okay for me.

- He was loyal to SHIELD all along, working deep-cover with HYDRA.

- He's still not a good person. He legitmately murdered all those people because it was part of his mission to maintain the cover.

- This is because SHIELD is a very shady organisation in its own right with its own legitimate factions that aren't that far removed from HYDRA anyway.

Personally I really really don't want to see Ward redeemed at all, especially not by the power of twu wuv or anything. He works much better as a villain.

I really think that they're going to redeem him (although he has sooo much more personality as a villain). The "look" that he gave Deathlok along with the ironic echo of "Nothing personal, I was only following orders." makes me think that he *realizes* that HYDRA is "bad". Duh. And unfortunately, Skye and Twoo Wuv will probably be the two main forces that do it. Or else the Power of Friendship. Ye gods, if this whole season turns into a Care Bears Aesop, I think I'm going to have to scratch someone's eyes out.

The preview for next week said "Season Finale" not "Series Finale" so they probably have at least 1 more season ahead of them.

The last few episodes have been decent, especially for network TV, and considering that the first half of this season was abysmal, its been a nice recovery.

I like the "less silly" approach, which is what they should have done from the begginging... but better late than never. Skye's character has been less annoying as a result... I'm glad that they didn't have her compete with Ward on a physicl level...

But its a shitload better than Arrow

I get the impression that the Romanov mentions are meant to be a running gag... mind you, it's mostly falling flat...

I like the Garrett theory, but the line suggests someone subservient to Garrett is typing, which I'm not sure Zola would be...

Yeah, that's why I filed it under "probably not significant". Still, it would be kinda weird to never actually see the behind-the-scenes of those typed meesages, since it's a pretty elaborate way of communication and it's been used for over half the series.

Last episode it was also used to show that now that Ward is out of the closet in terms of evilness, he's free to unleash his inner misogynist.;)

Yeah. And it shows he's kinda rusty, since he immediately tries to ugly-shame Cobie Smulders, of all people.

Against Scarlett Johansson though. I mean, I think Cobie Smulders is better looking but that's not how most of the world feels judging by all those SEXiest Women EVER! lists.

Actually I honestly thought that line was just so they could have another Romanov mention. Even her beauty is legendary in the SHIELD universe.

I think Ward is done for now just because Triplett is proving a good fit to the team and is a ready made replacement on the tv show. He'll probably get a bit of a redemption but then he'll die.

Finally.

This show has finally been able to string a few good to really good episodes together.

Soon will come the crashing back to earth with Ward's "love redemtion".

Why oh why can't the showrunners just go with the fact that Ward is a much better evil character than he was or will ever be a good guy? I mean, really?

Ward needed to stand up after Deathlok shocked him and said "I told you she would fall for it". Then Deathlok could have said "You were right" and hand over a dollar as if paying off a bet.

That would have been awesome.

Instead we get angsty Ward who is mad that he had to suffer a bit to get what they wanted(even though he was willing to take a viscious beating from Garrett just a couple of episodes ago).

That wouldn't work because Deathlok isn't really bad, he's just being controlled. Having someone stop your heart has to be fairly traumatic, you're certainly not going to joke about it after with a man who given the chance would rip your head off.

It won't be "twoo wuv" it'll be because Skye is so special.

Do you think Coulson will let Tahiti rest now he knows he was running it? In fairness I doubt he actually put himself forward as one of the test subjects.

We did? I must be thinking of a different scene, and forgetting the one you're talking about.

It's before the heartattack scene.

just caught up on the last two episodes. definitely better than what we have been seeing in the past. Would love to see Tripp become the team specialist and Ward become one of the ongoing main foes - after Garrett is taken out.

Ward is so much better as a villain, and I am dreading his redemption arc. And I totally expected Ward to be faking the heart attack as well! That would have been fabulous

We see the Deathlok 'vision interface' with the text, and the text itself refers to 'Garrett'.

It's before the heartattack scene.

Not to split hairs but I've just re-watched that scene and we don't see the interface. Deathlok cocks his head, before saying the 'Garret says you have 5 minutes' line, but we don't see what he's reading.

His interface after trying to decrypt the dohickey says:

"Garrett is done waiting. Go to Plan B"

It is before he goes to Skye with Ward.

Would have made a great deal more sense, too. As it stands, Garrett is threatening to kill one of his own best, most trusted agents; even if he's serious, why on earth would Skye believe he's serious? If it was faked, it still relies on Skye believing Garrett is completely insane as well as valuing a mass-murdering traitor's life over protecting vitally important Shield data (and probably her own life, since once it's decrypted they have no more use for her), but at least Hydra isn't risking anything in the attempt. Any random hostage off the street would have been a far better option than Ward. Or even Deathlock, since he's not loyal to Hydra and his main value is in the cybernetic components which could be reused on someone else.

See, I think it has less to do with Skye believing what Garrett would do and more about what her beliefs are - she doesn't want to be directly responsible for anyone's death, including Ward. I don't think it had to do with her feelings for him, just that anyone would die because of her actions.
