mothbomb
If Stannis defends the North against the Others, and prevails with the help of Jon Snow. Why couldnt Stannis ultimately rule the realm from Winterfell? All talk about the Vale centers around an alliance with the north because of Sansa. We also have Davos seeking out Rickon. We cant forget Bran's influence via Weirwood to possibly set certain things in motion. Could Stannis win in the end?
Lewton
Stannis winning has never been in doubt. Stannis victory is as certain as sunrise.
mothbomb
Another crazy possiblity is what if Stannis holds out under seige by the Others all winter, surviving only by Davos smuggling food for him again with the help of a Direwolf, and dragonglass. messem
Why would the Southern lords pledge fealty to a guy who sits far away in the North claiming he defended the realm against snarks and grumkins?
Chatty Duelist
Stannis will win. Do you really think Jon, Daenerys or Aegon or even Tommen will hold the throne in the end? No. It's someone unexpected, and everyone thinks that Stannis will lose and die horribly => Stannis will win.
Bael Abel
I don't think Stannis wants to rule from Winterfell. He feels that the Iron Throne is his by right, not Winterfell.

Then his wife dies in the siege, and eventually Danny came with her dragons, together they defeat the others, and in order to save the realm for futher blood shed, they decide to get married, and hence rule the seven kingdoms together. Chebyshov
Pretty sure his fringe religion is going to isolate a lot of the voters lords. Also I'm assuming the Faith being armed is going to play a role in his story. And there's a fair amount of Starks left (just no one really knows it yet). jon stark I
Because even IF Stannis defeats the Others and it is a huge "if" he will still try to get the Iron Throne also while Northern people might feel thankful for defeating Others they won't like Southern ruling them.Even Manderlys who are basicly Northern for hundreds of years they are still not accepted as other Northern lords as one of them. And there is the fact that Stannis isn't someone Northern people would like he worships Red God and Northerners are pretty protective over their Weirwoods. The book Stannis is never a religious fanatics, religion is just a tool for him, after defeating the others, he only need to marry Dannys, adopt Jon Snow as his son and heir to please North Lords, and have Tyrion as his hand and marry him with his daughter. The Mountain That Flies
Why couldnt Stannis ultimately rule the realm from Winterfell? Because Winterfell is too remote to administer over regions like the Reach, Dorne, and the Westerlands, and Stannis won't stand for a divided realm. Admittedly King's Landing is a bit far from the North to effectively govern it, but that's a completely different ball game.
