What would you consider the best published map out there?

Recommended Posts

There are A LOT of maps of Westeros and Essos floating around the internet, and I would really love a large hanging one for our den, can someone help me out? I want to make sure to include the free cities and all the arbitrary places so far.

This is a good one, but compared to the Lands of Ice and Fire map of the Known World, there are some mistakes in this one, that are not on the map currently used on the wiki (http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/File:WorldofIceandFire.png)

I recommend The Lands of Ice and Fire map collection (available through Amazon), which includes a canon map of The Known World, as opposed to speculative maps made by fans over the years.

Narwen's map is amazing. I'm glad they finally got around to updating it with all the canon info from The Lands of Ice and Fire. Does anyone know if there's an English-language version out there?

The first map linked, which is Mountain Goat's expanded version of Tear's original map of Westeros, probably has the best visual style overall, but MG hasn't updated it with the Lands information yet. I still use Tear's original for looking things up in Westeros alone, though.

It should also be noted that the WoIaF map extends slightly further south, showing more of the coast of Sothoryos, and a lot further north in Westeros, than any previous map.

The Lands of Ice and Fire maps are clearly the best so far...

Agree with that.

However, there are some other interesting versions; have a look at the heraldic map at http://www.greenronin.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=74383&sid=7b113b981969204ef5a453e480687280#p74383 (ironically that post refers to some post by Other-in-Law here, but the topic isn't available any more).
