Knight of City of Bayonne
I saw a pic of that the other day and was hoping it would stay like that at least through con week. Hope so as well, I'm arriving Sunday mornings so will have three full days to wander about.
SamanthaofHodorsfield
To my knowledge, they're adding poppies to the display all the way through to November 11th, so it certainly should still be there.

SamanthaofHodorsfield
Is there a particular day that people are looking to go to the Tower? Edit: You can also buy one of the Tower of London poppies. Though you won't receive it until after the exhibit has ended in November.
Theda Baratheon
This thread made me realise how I seriously no clue what I'm gonna be doing for 4 days LOL; should really plan better.
williamjm
This thread made me realise how I seriously no clue what I'm gonna be doing for 4 days LOL; should really plan better. I have a suspicion that no plan survives contact with WorldCon, so even if we do plan things out we're liable to end up doing something completely different. Alytha
Does one of you London-savy people know how long it takes to get to London Euston from the Docklands by tube in the late morning on a weekday?
Zoë Sumra
Does one of you London-savy people know how long it takes to get to London Euston from the Docklands by tube in the late morning on a weekday? The journey will take around thirty-five to forty minutes, plus walking at each end (I'll always add ten minutes to find my playform at Euston). Mr. X
The Transport for London Journey Planner is useful for directions and trip times. There's also the Citymapper app.

Sunday: Tower or British Museum Monday: Tower or British Museum Tuesday: Day trip to Stonehenge/Bath I'm also probably going to do a Jack the Ripper Walking Tour (nightly at 7:30) This is very true. I was looking at tickets with my housemate earlier in the year, and when I put one tour into my basket, it wasn't available for her to see it on her laptop. Very odd. Maybe people have tours just sitting in their baskets.. :ninja: I'm interested in the Jack the Ripper tour, which day are you thinking of doing? My schedule is so packed, but I'm sure I can shuffle some things around.
lady narcissa
I'm also probably going to do a Jack the Ripper Walking Tour (nightly at 7:30)I'm not sure which tour company you are looking at but just in case I thought I'd give a shout out for London Walks which does a whole variety of excellent walking tours around London. They have a Jack the Ripper tour which I'd recommend: http://www.walks.com/London_Walks_Home/Jack_the_Ripper_Tour/default.aspx

No look so far. I got sooooo close when a Thursday time popped up, but I was still en route and not in London yet so it wasn't suitable. Hopefully something will come up. DaveAx
Passing this along from John Pomeranz, a DC SMOF who's not on the boards:Some suggestions for those attending LonconI've done a lot of research planning our trip to London for the World Science Fiction Convention. (My streak of OCD is brought out by vacation planning.) It occurs to me that some of the things I've turned up might be of interest to other fans planning to combine some London tourism with their Worldcon experience. Let the Right One In, is a love story between two children, one of whom turns out to be a vampire. Based on the Swedish novel and film of the same name, the National Theatre of Scotland brings its highly praised production to the Apollo Theatre. (We bought a block of tickets for the evening of August 19, all of which are spoken for, but tickets are still available.) http://www.apollotheatrelondon.co.uk/let-the-right-one-in/The Thames Barrier, near the ExCeL is having a rare scheduled closure on Tuesday, August 13 (scheduled for 9:35am – 12:05pm). What a chance to see this huge engineering work in action! Good view from Thames Barrier Park, a mile’s walk from the ExCeL.https://www.gov.uk/the-thames-barrierHistoric Highgate Cemetery is the Victorian burial ground that is the last resting place of everyone from Karl Marx to Douglas Adams and has been featured in works of SF&F by Audrey Niffenegger, Barbara Hambly, Cory Doctorow, and others. http://highgatecemetery.org/The Royal Observatory Greenwich is having a special exhibition “Longitude Punk’d,” a steampunk reinvention of the 18th century efforts to determine longitude at sea.http://www.rmg.co.uk/whats-on/events/longitude-punkdThe British Library is having a special exhibition “Comics Unmasked,” the UK’s largest ever exhibition of mainstream and underground comics.http://www.bl.uk/whatson/exhibitions/comics-unmasked/index.html?ns_campaign=comics&ns_mchannel=bl_website&ns_source=carousel&ns_linkname=comics_more_link&ns_fee=0London’s great bicycle-sharing program Barclays Cycle Hire is offering free day memberships on Saturday and Sunday of the convention. Rides of 30 minutes or less are free. (Alas, no stations near the ExCeL yet…)http://www.tfl.gov.uk/campaign/free-barclays-cycle-hire?cid=fs199Bletchley Park, the secret codebreaking facility where Alan Turing and others arguably won World War II, is a good day-trip from London.
