Link between Syrio Forel and Jaqen H'ghar

My theory is: Syrio Forel and Jaqen H`ghar are the same person!!

Despite both GRRM and the screenwriter Bryan Cogman said that he was dead I still think they are the same person.

I think Syrio and Jaqen are both the same faceless man. Syrio died when he transformed his face, not killed by the guard. I can suppose that because when Jaqen is saying goodbye to Arya and changes his face he says that Jaqen is dead already.

I hope you understand my point of view and maybe I`m totally wrong, but it would be awesome if that happens.

Thank you for reading.

Sadly, there is no more hints in the story, but that doesn't mean it can't be true.

cool theory, but what would a faceless man be doing teaching a liitle girl sword lessons?

Well, that is curious, but either way, what would a faceless man be doing as a prisoner in the black cells, being forced to take the black?

Getting paid to do something he likes doing: swordfigting.

Also, Syrio is known in the world, he has a standing reputation. Something which doesn't last long for FM, as they change faces regularly, as soon as their mission allows them to do so, or whenever it requires. Yet Syrio was the first sword of Braavos for 9 years.. a bit too long to have been a FM, right? Especially, since more time had passed in between the end of his job, and accepting one from Ned.

A mission gone wrong, which made him end up in the Black Cells of KL, where he patiently remains until an oppertunity to free himself and return to his mission presents itself.

I don't buy this theory of Syrio and Jaqen being the same person.

Would Syrio allow himself to yield, thereby landing him in a black cell? That could've given chance to swap identity. However, it seems to me that Syrio, as a master swordsman, would never yield. Also, he fights for as long as he can to give Arya more time to escape, even if it means he loses, which is the ultimate noble act.

Jaqen being caught when a mission went wrong? Between 'missions', I'd say. Can anyone see Faceless Men only going out on one 'mission', particularly going to Westeros? Where better to find a new identity than the black cells.

They are two key figures and influences in Arya's development.

Well, this is no problem for Faceless Men. Kill the real Sirio Forell and assume his identity. FM can quite easily replace people that way.

Then explain that Jaqen had been in the Black Cells a while before Ned's arrest.. Syrio was still running around, and meanwhile, Yoren had already seen Jaqen in his cell. Even FM can't be at two places at once

Before Ned was betrayed, Jaqen was in the Black Cells but not the FM Jaqen. The FM Syrio, could have been helped into the Black Cells by its Jailer, which we know is Varys in disguise. Like the FM assumed the identity of the first sword of Bravos, he could have killed the original Jaqen who was in the Black Cells and taken his identity. Why? Because for a reason unknown at present the FM and Varys wanted to be close to the Starks. First they gain access to his household by having the FM Syrio become Arya's teacher and secondly they place FM Jaqen in the Black Cells where Ned is held. Later the FM Jaqen is one of the prisoners going to the Wall with Yoren who was also supposed to escort Ned to the Wall. That same Yoren finds Arya in the crowd, what luck!, and takes her with them. I think masker37 is on to something. I believe the Starks fit into the FM's plans. Exactly what those plans are I do not know, but while I originally thought it involved Ned, I am beginning to believe that their target all along had been Arya. They know and have always known something about her that we do not.

Then now explain how the FM Jaqen changes into appears at the Citadel, and how that fits into the Starks..? Because the Citadel has got nothing to do with the Starks ;)

Well, FM Pate has infiltrated Marwyn's group of students studying the magic arts. He has possession of Pate's stolen key which indicates that the FM Pate is looking for something at the Citadel and since he picked Marwyn's group, something magical. Some have speculated it could be a book about dragons but for now we do not know. The unifying theme between the Starks and Marwyn's group is magic. Although many like to think of the Starks as medieval nobility's version of the Waltons, they are magical and the root of their magic is for the most part forgotten. Many have speculated concerning some secret in the crypts of Winterfell or a magical connection to the Wall. The answer may lie somewhere with the Maesters in Old Town. Maybe the original FM plan was to look for the information in Winterfell but when that plan failed switched to the Citadel. Its conjecture, but conjecture based on the text. Whether it is right or wrong will not be known until the next book or maybe not even until the one after that.

Arya is a "Female Line" of blood of the First Men, she is a Lyanna kind of Stark, just like Ned said about Jon Snow: "He is my blood". Only that is enough reason to go after Arya, I think.

The Female Line is important for true northerners. And the family name "Brandon" is key.

The way the some mothers and wives are absent (even their names) is a huge red flag.

It makes sense the interest of "some of the players" in the Starks if you tie it all up with Greatjon's speech (AGoT Cat XI): He said "It was the dragons we married," before he said the famous line "The King in the North!"

So, IMO, if GRRM wants to Arya's teacher to be a FM, he has plenty of room to write it that way, or not, if he does not want. We'll see...
