I was doing my write-up for best and worst casting and realized who I would have cast for Daenerys: Holliday Grainger. She did The Borgias (which actually began the same time roughly as GOT), but she would have been SO MUCH better as Daenerys -- even though I loved her on TB. Anyway, she had everything that the role of Daenerys called for... devastating beauty, brilliant talent, mind-blowing charisma *and* she wore a very pale blonde wig on The Borgias and looked flawless in it (and she would have been 20 when they started Game of Thrones so her age would have been fine since they aged Dany up anyway especially since she looked younger). Selyse Baratheon- I think Kate Dickie (Lysa Arryn) would have been great for the role (even though I liked her as Lysa despite looking nothing like book-Lysa.) Mance Rayder was a bit too old- I'd have liked Henry Ian Cusick- Ciaran Hinds would have been a good Greyjoy brother I like your suggestion for Mance. And Ciaran might have been a good Aeron? Lady Darry Posted June 3, 2015 Share Posted June 3, 2015 Dany. I don’t agree with every casting choice, but I did grow to like them all. Except Emilia Clarke. For me, she is not Dany. Kit is making Jon super believable and he is getting better and better with every episode and she is doing the complete opposite with Dany. Dany in show looks like a one dimensional character with only one facial expression. Like her or hate her, but she is one of the main characters, and she is the only main character played by someone who is not capable of making that character work. It’s one of the main things I hold against D&D... Can you imagine what would happen if D&D would go 'the Mad queen' road with Dany? It would be a disaster that would even made Sand snakes form episode 4&6 look believable.(It doesn't mean Emilia Clarke is a bad actress, maybe Dany is just not for her, Robert De Niro is also not perfect in every role.)
