Exactly - the only source I've ever seen for this is that wiki.

I hope I'm wrong, but this Dawn is as sharp as VS idea - which is commonly believed now - might have been unsubstantiated misinformation.

Still hoping someone has a quote????

Did a quick search of the text. Dawn is never stated to be as sharp as VS. The wiki info is definitely unsubstantiated.

And ive searched SSM's.

This has become an assumed knowledge, part of lots of theories etc. As far as I can tell, it's based on thin air.

Sharp as Valyrian steel never appears in the books, nope. This was the best description in the books:

The hilt of the greatsword Dawn poked up over his right shoulder.

“And now it begins,” said Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. He unsheathed Dawn and held it with both hands. The blade was pale as milkglass, alive with light

What I found in the SSMs

2. You've mentioned that Dawn has an illustrious history -- is there a ballpark figure for how long the Daynes and/or Starfall/Dawn have existed?

Oh, I'd say Dawn goes back a couple thousand years... and before that, things get a little fuzzy anyway.

Link

As for Dawn, in the books it has a milky white blade. We do not know a way to mimic that without using paint, and GRRM doesn't like paint.

Link - This seems to have all information about the Daynes/Dawn in one, and there is no mention of "sharp as Valyrian steel"

The sword Dawn was forged from the heart of a fallen star

A google turns up

Dawn: The ancestral greatsword of House Dayne, who bestow the title Sword of the Morning upon the sword's bearer. Forged of metal from the heart of a fallen star, it is 'pale as milkglass' and is said to be as sharp as Valyrian steel. Returned to Ashara Dayne by Eddard Stark after Ser Arthur Dayne's death.[7

Problem is it's source is listed as a wiki of ice and fire

and

In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Dawn was forged from the metal of a fallen star. Its blade is as pale as milkglass and is said to be just as sharp as Valyrian steel.

Still has a wiki of ice and fire listed...

The best i can come up with for a source is the damage dawn did to the swords the smiling knights used... to damage caused by valaryian steel... the source for that is aSoS chapter 67..too many reverences to valyrian sword to cite individually

I believe the "Dawn is sharper than Valyrian Steel" thing stems from Jaime's recollection of being knighted:

the pale blade was so sharp that even that light touch cut through Jaime’s tunic, so he bled anew. He never felt it.

Do we ever see anyone being knighted with a Valyrian Steel blade? any indication that they are that sharp?

(chapter 14 Catelyn) does describe Cat grabbing a Valyrian steel blade... Her fingers were slippery with blood but she would not let go of the dagger aGoT page 128..... the cuts are almost to the bone. It is another viewpoint character cut by a blade... mentions of blood without pain.

The claim that Dawn is as sharp as or sharper than Valyrian steel is not baseless.... it just does not have a single source

Yeah well it's hard to compare her grabbing a dagger with her palms to being touched lightly on the shoulder. Even a normal knife would mess you up if you grabbed it by the blade on a struggle. For what it's worth the impression I get is that Valyrian steel is sharp and holds an edge really well, but Dawn is unnaturally sharp.

We do not have an over abundance of viewpoint characters being cut with Valyrian steel;... kind of have to take what we can get..

Yeah that must be it. The way it's bandied around was like it was specifically compared to VS.

But this must be the root. Thx RumHam.

I suggest one of the wiki editors adds this part to the wiki, to replace/change wording to what was there, it's great info.

Is there a list of the lordships anywhere? I'd like specifics with each 'lordship/fief', meaning the High Lordships, and then which castles fall under them.

For example:

-Riverrun (Highlord of Riverrun):

  • Wayfarer's Rest:
  • Acornhall:
  • Higheart(Ruins):
  • Pinkmaiden:

-Harrenhal(Liveable Ruins) (Highlord of The Trident):

  • Harrentown:
  • Esgaroth:
  • Willow Wood:

-The Twins (Highlord of The Crossing):

  • Seagard:
  • Fairmarket:
  • Oldstones(ruins):

-Stoney Sept (Highlord of The Grey Mountians):

  • Mumer's Ford:
  • Wendishtown
  • Hollow Hill:

-Darry (High Lord of Darry):

  • Lord Harrow's Town:
  • Antlers:
  • Atrana:

-Maidenpool (Highlord of The Bay of Crabs):

  • Saltpans:
  • Dyre Den:

-Raventree Hall(High Lord of Raventree Hall):

*Disputed Between Raventree and Stone Hedge*Pennytree:

-Stone Hedge(High Lord of Stone Hedge):

I don't think the Mallisters of Seaguard swear fealty to the twins.

No, we don't know which house owe fealty to another for most of the names we have. We don't even have all the flags/words/location of all the houses that we have a list for. This is as close as you will get to that, and it is the Wardens and the known houses in each kingdom.
