It really only makes sense for him to die (if he dies at all) back in Westeros. The Battle for Mereen seems all but won. The Horn may be an issue, but not one that would require a battle for Barriston to fight in and die. But in Westeros, having Barristan the Bold will carry weight with some, and win Dany some support. Really, though, this post proves nothing. Of the 19 POV characters still running around (20 if we count LS), almost all of them are in some peril/could die at any moment or are in/around a major battle. In order of peril: Immediatae Peril1. Jon Snow (dying as we last left him)2. Theon (a prisoner around Northmen who believe you killed two Starks, battle of Winterfell)3. Jon Con (has Greyscale, leading an invasion)4. Barristan (battle of Meereen)5. Victarion (battle of Meereen)-------------------------------------------Looming Peril in the Future6. Brienne (either she does Jaime or she's in trouble)7. Jaime (in danger due to LS's manipulation of Brienne)8. Asha (another Ironborn prisoner in the North, battle of Winterfell around her)9. Dany (looks like it could be OK with the Dothraki, but they are prickly)10. Tyrion (looks like he'll be OK for the moment, but a Lannister in Dany's presence could be a problem)11. Arianne (riding into the middle of the Jon Con invasion)12. Areo Hotah (going after Darkstar)13. Davos (going to Skagos was dangerous, yes?)-----------------------------------Seems a bit more secure for now:14. Mel: the Wall is a dangerous place right now, but is SHE ever in danger?15. Arya: some danger in giving the gift to others and not being No One16. Cersei: seems out of immediate danger, for the moment17. Sansa: some danger with LF, to be sure, but doesn't seem immediate at the moment18. Damphair: doens't seem to be imperiled at the moment19.
