Moments of Foreshadowing 10

Hmm, I'm not sure that Sansa knows that it was LF who "disposed" of Jeyne.

Oh, she most certainly did...

"Sansa, my sweet child," she said, "I know you've been asking for me. I'm sorry that I could not send for you sooner. Matters have been very unsettled, and I have not had a moment. I trust my people have been taking good care of you?"

"Everyone has been very sweet and pleasant, Your Grace, thank you ever so much for asking," Sansa said politely. "Only, well, no one will talk to us or tell us what's happened . . . "

"Us?" Cersei seemed puzzled.

"We put the steward's girl in with her," Ser Boros said. "We did not know what else to do with her."

The queen frowned. "Next time, you will ask," she said, her voice sharp. "The gods only know what sort of tales she's been filling Sansa's head with."

"Jeyne's scared," Sansa said. "She won't stop crying. I promised her I'd ask if she could see her father."

Old Grand Maester Pycelle lowered his eyes.

"Her father is well, isn't he?" Sansa said anxiously. She knew there had been fighting, but surely no one would harm a steward. Vayon Poole did not even wear a sword.

Queen Cersei looked at each of the councillors in turn. "I won't have Sansa fretting needlessly. What shall we do with this little friend of hers, my lords?"

Lord Petyr leaned forward. "I'll find a place for her."

"Not in the city," said the queen.

"Do you take me for a fool?"

The queen ignored that. "Ser Boros, escort this girl to Lord Petyr's apartments and instruct his people to keep her there until he comes for her. Tell her that Littlefinger will be taking her to see her father, that ought to calm her down. I want her gone before Sansa returns to her chamber."

"As you command, Your Grace," Ser Boros said. He bowed deeply, spun on his heel, and took his leave, his long white cloak stirring the air behind him.

Sansa was confused. "I don't understand," she said. "Where is Jeyne's father? Why can't Ser Boros take her to him instead of Lord Petyr having to do it?" She had promised herself she would be a lady, gentle as the queen and as strong as her mother, the Lady Catelyn, but all of a sudden she was scared again. For a second she thought she might cry. "Where are you sending her? She hasn't done anything wrong, she's a good girl."

"She's upset you," the queen said gently. "We can't be having that. Not another word, now. Lord Baelish will see that Jeyne's well taken care of, I promise you." She patted the chair beside her. "Sit down, Sansa. I want to talk to you."

Sansa seated herself beside the queen. Cersei smiled again, but that did not make her feel any less anxious. Varys was wringing his soft hands together, Grand Maester Pycelle kept his sleepy eyes on the papers in front of him, but she could feel Littlefinger staring. Something about the way the small man looked at her made Sansa feel as though she had no clothes on. Goose bumps pimpled her skin.

Sansa IV, Game 51

Cersei promised her that Lord Barlish would take good care of her, and Petyr said he would find a place for her.

We haven't been able to figure out who the hedge knight in the checkered cloak who disgraced himself by killing Beric's horse at the Hand's Tourney. But what if this was intented to be a foreshadowing of what will happen in

the tourney we will surely see in Alayne II, Winds?

The arms of House Hardyng are a field of red and white diamonds. A cloak fashioned to reflect such arms would appear to be checkered.

All the low hanging fruits, even the ones hard to see through the leaves, have been plucked, but there are still a few in the upper branches, even if they're wormy and a lot less appealing.

I do not think Petyr will setvup Sansa with Aegon, but I've seen the idea tossed about a lot, especially in light of the Ashford tourney foreshadowing theory. Perhaps Lothor Brune would enter the Kingsguard as her sworn shield...

Sansa II, Game 29

Three men rode for Winterfell in the Hand's tourney. Harwin was defeated by a knight of the Kingsguard. Alyn was defeated by a knight who would join Joffrey's Kingsguard. Jory was defeated by Lothor Brune who would go on to become a knight and then act as Sansa's shield under Petyr's "protection."

By the way, you might be interested in my "Ashford Tourney = Brienne and Sansa parallel" theory in my signature. I think it more or less foreshadows Brienne being the Dunk to Sansa's Egg and swears her sword to her, either as a knight or as a Queensguard.

Is this a nod to Aegon?

ACoK, Tyrion IX: (during and after the KL Riot)

"They did for Santagar," the Hound continued. "Four men held him down and took turns bashing at his head with a cobblestone. I gutted one, not that it did Ser Aron much good."

...

Ser Aron Santagar had been found in a gutter, his head a red pulp inside a crushed helm.

This quote from ASOS was posted by Paper Waver early in thread nr9:

Paper Waver went on to write that he thinks the imagery is about Brienne and Jaime.

I have an alternative interpretation, based on the context of the scene: this is right before the wedding of the century, the marriage of Joff and Margaery and the official sealing of the Lannister/Tyrell alliance. I think that Sansa may have unwittingly seen the way this alliance will turn out: 2 great castles with shades of rose (Tyrell) and gold and crimson (Lannister) come together to form one big castle: the great western alliance. However, Brella sees a tower tumbling over (the tower of the hand, which Cersei will burn?) and the new, single castle is now "all ruins". Which is probably the state of the Lannister/Tyrell alliance at the very end of ADWD, or probably will be quite early in TWOW.

I mean ive always taken it as that its Sansa Stark (black grey are Stark colors) and Tyrion (Rose gold crimson) getting married and combining the two houses together. right after that Tyrion is brought up how he gave Sansa all new handmaids. Tyrion being the first person brought up was no mistake IMO, it's showing there marriage and how they're combing families and 'supposed' to be a great family of all gold and high born families- that's why Shae is the first to talk and sees gold, what it's supposed to be. and then Brella see's it as tumbling over, hinting at the marriage falling apart, which is what happened. it was a foreshadow of their marriage and a time line of how it would play out

It's possible. Seems like something that Lyn Corbray would do, but we don't know yet how fair Harry is in a fight either. Or perhaps the reverse happens to Harry; his horse gets hit and

he "falls on his stupid head in his first tilt." :P

Speaking of Hardyngs, in The Hedge Knight, Aerion aims his lance towards Humphrey Hardyng's horse during their joust. Ser Humphrey breaks his leg in the fall and the horse has to be put down. Hmm...

By the way, I'm pretty sure I figured out who the "disgraced hedge knight" is.

AGoT, Sansa II:

Later a hedge knight in a checkered cloak disgraced himself by killing Beric Dondarrion's horse, and was declared forfeit.

ACoK, Tyrion IV:

"Who's the boy in the checkered blue surcoat with the three eyes on his shield?"

"Some hedge knight. Tallad, he names himself."

Very good catch regarding Ser Tallad. And thanks for note about Hardyng and Aerion. I recalled something like that happening but forgot the details.

Aegon's fate...

The Lost Lord, Dance 24

The Plains of the Jogos Nhai, TWOIAF

Excellent catch. Do you think Dany would have his skull gilded in the fashion of the GC, and made into a drinking cup? Playing divide and conquer could be worth trying.

The war between the young emperor and the wizened jhattar lasted less than two years.

Dany is supposedly the StMtW, or the khal of khals as the jhattar is the jhat of jhats. The second Dance will likely last less than two years as well.

Amongst the slain was Lo Bu himself, the forty-third and last of the scarlet emperors.

Aegon is the last of the Blackfyre kings

Tyrion's fate...

Tyrion I, Game 9

I suspect that The Second Dance of the Dragons will culminate at the Trident as armies led by Daenerys, Stannis, and Aegon meet. I expect Drogon the winged shadow will burn Stannis, and all his power will join Daenerys. But I also expect that Tyrion will betray Daenerys with Brown Ben and Viserion for Aegon's side. I could see Tyrion later wishing he hadn't alone in the woods. I could then see Nymeria picking up his sent.

I highly doubt Tyrion would betray Dany given Aegon's side would be reluctant to take him after that after he supposedly already betrayed Aegon by setting Dany against him, and he had just betrayed Dany. They wouldn't take him back after that, or rather they would murder him.

Nice to see you again. I suspect that when Daenerys returns to the Seven Kingdoms it will be as Tyrion described it...

"I told you, I know our little queen. Let her hear that her brother Rhaegar's murdered son is still alive, that this brave boy has raised the dragon standard of her forebears in Westeros once more, that he is fighting a desperate war to avenge his father and reclaim the Iron Throne for House Targaryen, hard-pressed on every side and she will fly to your side as fast as wind and water can carry her. You are the last of her line, and this Mother of Dragons, this Breaker of Chains, is above all a rescuer. The girl who drowned the slaver cities in blood rather than leave strangers to their chains can scarcely abandon her own brother's son in his hour of peril. And when she reaches Westeros, and meets you for the first time, you will meet as equals, man and woman, not queen and supplicant. How can she help but love you then, I ask you?"

Tyrion VI, Dance 22

Aegon will get the green dragon and Tyrion or Brown Ben will have the white one. When Aegon and Daenerys begin to dance, Tyrion with betray her for Aegon.

Varys knows that Tyrion is resourceful. A dragon can change the tide of the battle, something Stannis said IIRC. This will be proven in the early victories of Dany. So, team fAegon might try to convert Tyrion if things start going sour in team Dany. There is the possibility that Dany might be betrayed by her dragonrider(s) just like Rhaenyra.

We should also remember that it is quite likely that team Dany will be somewhat a triumvirate with the introduction of the two dragonriders. That means Dany will not be the ultimate decision-maker or ultimate authority in the new blacks.

What's up with Ulf the White in TP&TQ? That's an odd name, no? He was so called because of his pale blond hair.

Then he saw the other one, waddling along half-hidden by his brother's side. Tyrion Lannister, the youngest of Lord Tywin's brood and by far the ugliest. All that the gods had given to Cersei and Jaime, they had denied Tyrion. He was a dwarf, half his brother's height, struggling to keep pace on stunted legs. His head was too large for his body, with a brute's squashed-in face beneath a swollen shelf of brow. One green eye and one black one peered out from under a lank fall of hair so blond it seemed white. Jon watched him with fascination.

Ulf the White slept through the second battle of Tumbleton.

Tyrion went to sleep smiling . . .. . . and woke in darkness to the blare of trumpets. Shae was shaking him by the shoulder. "M'lord," she whispered. "Wake up, m'lord. I'm frightened."Groggy, he sat up and threw back the blanket. The horns called through the night, wild and urgent, a cry that said hurry hurry hurry. He heard shouts, the clatter of spears, the whicker of horses, though nothing yet that spoke to him of fighting. "My lord father's trumpets," he said. "Battle assembly. I thought Stark was yet a day's march away."Shae shook her head, lost. Her eyes were wide and white.Groaning, Tyrion lurched to his feet and pushed his way outside, shouting for his squire.

Ok, ok, so Tyrion did not sleep through the fighting but he had to be roused by a whore.

Ulf the White was a drunkard who enjoyed diddling whores.

"Do you need a woman so badly, Yollo?" "A man grows weary of having no lovers but his fingers."

He needed wine. A lot of wine. He seized the flagon with both hands and raised it to his lips. The wine ran red. Down his throat, down his chin. It dripped from his beard and soaked the feather bed. In the candlelight it looked as dark as the wine that had poisoned Joffrey. When he was done he tossed the empty flagon aside and half-rolled and half-staggered to the floor, groping for a chamber pot. There was none to be found. His stomach heaved, and he found himself on his knees, retching on the carpet, that wonderful thick Myrish carpet, as comforting as lies.

So if you accept other foreshadowing that the white dragon is headed toward Tyrion, perhaps Ulf the White's actions in TP&TQ foreshadows that Tyrion will betray Dany in Dance v.2.0. Somebody has to betray Dany for gold. Why not for all the gold of Casterly Rock?

I'm not a fan of Tyrion being a dragonrider, but you might be on to something. I believe that Brown Ben Plumm could possibly become a dragonrider, at least for a time; Viserion has already shown a preference towards him.

ASoS, Daenerys V:

Her captains bowed and left her with her handmaids and her dragons. But as Brown Ben was leaving, Viserion spread his pale white wings and flapped lazily at his head. One of the wings buffeted the sellsword in his face. The white dragon landed awkwardly with one foot on the man's head and one on his shoulder, shrieked, and flew off again. "He likes you, Ben," said Dany.

Given the monetary compensation that Tyrion has promised, the Second Sons - and Viserion if Brown Ben Plumm bonds to him - are basically in his pocket.

Oh, she most certainly did...

Sansa IV, Game 51

Cersei promised her that Lord Barlish would take good care of her, and Petyr said he would find a place for her.

I somehow missed this comment until now. If she were to ask about Jeyne, I highly doubt that LF will be honest with Sansa. However, if Sansa should discover what's happened to Jeyne in some way, LF doesn't have much of an alibi either. For LF to be caught over something that happened all the way back from AGoT would be sweet.

What I've taken away from this is that Sansa has never asked Petyr about the fate of her dearest friend in all the world. Although to be fair, Jeyne was just the daughter of a steward.

Viserion will be the dragon Mother of Dragons.

ADwD, Daenerys I:

The white dragon lay coiled around a pear tree, his head resting on his tail. When Dany passed his eyes came open, two pools of molten gold. His horns were gold as well, and the scales that ran down his back from head to tail. "You're lazy," she told him, scratching under his jaw. His scales were hot to the touch, like armor left too long in the sun. Dragons are fire made flesh. She had read that in one of the books Ser Jorah had given her as a wedding gift. "You should be hunting with your brothers. Have you and Drogon been fighting again?"

Pears represent sexuality. The image of Viserion laying with his (or her?) head on his tail is a symbol of continuity, renewal, and rebirth. The dragons will be renewed through Viserion.

ACoK, Daenerys I:

"It may be as you say, blood of my blood," Dany replied gravely, "but he shall have a new name for this new life. I would name them all for those the gods have taken. The green one shall be Rhaegal, for my valiant brother who died on the green banks of the Trident. The cream-and-gold I call Viserion. Viserys was cruel and weak and frightened, yet he was my brother still. His dragon will do what he could not."

In the above scene, we are offered a brief analogy between Rhaegar and Viserys. What was Rhaegar able to have in his lifetime that Viserys did not? His own children.

While looking that up, I found a similarity between two scenes in Dany and Sansa's POVs.

In this scene, Daenerys gives Daario a pear. The juice runs down his beard. Daenerys later chooses Daario to be her lover.

ADwD, Daenerys IV:

Daenerys received the captain on her terrace, seated on a carved stone bench beneath a pear tree. A half-moon floated in the sky above the city, attended by a thousand stars. Daario Naharis entered swaggering.

...

"I have not eaten in two days, but now that I am here, it is enough for me to feast upon your beauty."

"My beauty will not fill up your belly." She plucked down a pear and tossed it at him. "Eat this."

"If my queen commands it." He took a bite of the pear, his gold tooth gleaming. Juice ran down into his purple beard.

In this scene, Sansa is offered some other fruit, but chooses to take the pear. The juice also runs down her chin. Sansa will reject what's offered her and choose who her lover will be on her own. (Sorry, Harry.)

ASoS, Sansa VI:

Grisel reappeared before he could say more, balancing a large platter. She set it down between them. There were apples and pears and pomegranates, some sad-looking grapes, a huge blood orange. The old woman had brought a round of bread as well, and a crock of butter. Petyr cut a pomegranate in two with his dagger, offering half to Sansa. "You should try and eat, my lady."

"Thank you, my lord." Pomegranate seeds were so messy; Sansa chose a pear instead, and took a small delicate bite. It was very ripe. The juice ran down her chin.
