Bakker XXX: A Dark and Seminal Work

Sci-2

Recommended Posts

Happy Ent's Intro:

This is the perpetual thread devoted to the works of R. Scott Bakker, primarily the books in the Second Apocalypse series, the first of which is The Darkness that Comes Before.

The current publication status is 5 volumes of novels, including The White-Luck Warrior, as well as 2 short stories, The False Sun, and The Four Revelations of Cinial'jin. This thread contains spoilers for these publications.

Since Bakker's writing uses layers of revelation, newcomers are strongly advised to finish the books before coming here; otherwise the spoilers will rot your soul. Eternally.

Most denizens of this thread have also read Bakker's non-fantasy novels Neuropath and Disciple of the Dog, but the spoiler policy is unclear. You are advised to hide crucial plot points in those novels.

Oh I thought people weren't serious about that. I'm happy to add a title if people want.

if we are voting I like it exactly how you have it. Let the sranc in these threads feel frustrated. It's deliciously ironical. Plus a really porny title probably dissuades boarders from opening thread.

what up bakkerinos, discover anything new in the last thread?

TUC isn't coming out anytime soon and might be split in two. Plus, it will end with a 'truly monumental moment in fantasy history'. And there's a new short story set in Earwa pending.

Ooh a short story.

And TUC Is long enough for two books?

good to see you, jurbs. almost didn't recognize you with your name spelled out plainly.

Oh, I should change it to something more Halloween appropriate, I guess.

Good call on the thread title. A real porn-ish title will just get deleted anyway.

To be fair Goodkind fans think the Chicken That Is Not A Chicken was a truly monumental moment in fantasy literature history. I wouldn't put too much weight on one reader's word.

As for the short story. Since Bakker said it will be published in two parts and Grimdark magazine is published quarterly with the 1st edition (which didn't have the story) coming out a few days ago, the soonest we will get the completed short is about six months from now.

$10 says it's a global orgy.

Sranc raping the remains of the great ordeal, Cnauir, serwe and sorweeel getting it handled to them by the Nonmen, Esement being uses by anyone and everyone in the capital and Aurang, and the rest of the inchies showing Kellhus what the No-God truly is? I can see it, plenty of black semen for all.

i know! DA takes the box to throw into a volcano under the ark, but relents, overcome by it, and instead climbs in. but then sarl bites off his arms and legs and dumps him out, and then falls into lava with box. evil loses! DA takes boat trip to chanvland to heal his limbs. how cool would that be?

Yeah, you ruined the title!

I'm hoping it's actually a dirty joke, in regard to XXX and 'insert'.

But would you be post hoc rationalising that in?

Or did you plan it all along?

Can the one text potentially have the two differing assignations of meaning? Or only ever one? The first one one thinks of, to be exact?

Edit: Especially if a space was tactically placed in the word 'title'.
