Better Claim

Recommended Posts

A claim of conquest is that you take the throne and can hold it, militarily. It's not about who gets their first (though that can be significant too).

True though seizing the capital, killing the king and being in possession of the symbols of power (as we saw from the Dance, seizing the capital to give legitimacy to each claim) give you a head start but again it comes back to the same old same old...Might Makes Right and the Lannisters did not have enough might to face off against everyone else..well not without totally shattering the realm.

Ok then, that's what I figured. The idea that Ned had a claim simply because he was the first to waltz into the throne room seemed silly

Well Ned had a better chance that Tywin to try claim it as he had a whole range of allies who may have backed him up....obviously only if Robert had not already proclaimed he was claiming it after he killed Rhaegar.

If Robert had no blood ties to Targaryen then the three rebel leaders, Baratheon, Stark and Arryn would have had a near equal claim by conquest. (Tho Robert slaying Rhaegar gave him an ancient prominence)

But Tywin never really had a chance in that climate but if he had a big enough army to defeat the war weary rebels he could have had a chance.

If he had proclaimed for Viserys (married to Cersei) he may have had the loyalists support to turn the tide but we will never know.
