IMO, it's his blood right (especially since Robert used his claim as a Targaryen heir to take the throne). However, the thought that HR = HS and is going through with an elaborate (and always unexplained) conspiracy is the crazy part). I think he ends up on A throne but not the IT. I want to put for the idea that it's Jon's blood that allows him to do "the thing" (no don't ask me what the thing is, I haven't the foggiest) Now that the world book ban is lifted: it was suggested that Planetos wasn't always so fracked up. The imbalance in the seasons happened thousands of years ago--some sort of shift (human stupidity playing with deep magics is my guess...). And I think one of the major thrusts of ASOIAF is getting the world back in balance. And that's where Jon comes in. He is not "the one true hero" but he is the only person who can put balance back GRRM's universe because he himself IS the balance thanks to his RL blood (the literal blood of dragons--thanks magic--and the literal blood of winter/ice--thank to whatever happened long long long long ago with the Others and Starks) Jon's role isn't necessarily to defeat the Others because that's really only taking down one side (and dragons/fire are just as destructive as Others/winter) but to restore balance in the world. That thing (and KL) are doomed!Well you know the thing is when you look at it, Valyria and KL share an inverse parallel. A lot of the story that Martin writes is about choices, everyone makes them and they all result in certain outcomes. Law of unintended consequences comes into play a lot. Jon, Dany, Bran, Jaime, what have you they all make their choices. With Valyria, they were given a choice. The Targs warned them about the doom, said you got to go before we are all up to our asses in Volcano vomit. The destruction of fire. They were warned about the fire, they ignored, the Targs didn't and they lived. Now KL has been warned about the Others, the destruction by ice. The watch got much the same result as the Targs, "Oh really will Grumpkins kill us too? So I kind of figure you know you all are fucked, you made your choice. Now I don't see it as just ice because I think it is to good of an opportunity for the author to have a metaphor of ice, fire and destruction. And it still works if the main cause of the destruction is ice. Plus like I said about Cersie this would work well for Martin. But so does Jaime as the first time he saved it from burning and the second time around he may have to burn everyone. Although he would probably die, but you would fulfill the not letting the fire die elements placed in his own story. Or maybe Brie does it. But you know it's not going to be pretty.Will see, at some point, in the future, of our lives, at some time when the books or the show are finished. Probably the show, then you have to wait for the books to get it verified. Because people who are not happy will be like it didn't happen in the books yet so it doesn't count. They don't look all that bad. Though a couple questions is the mother of the Others looking up, it looks like she is looking up but also sort of cross eyed. And that is so not Arya, did you draw that? Why do you always think Arya has abundant curves, she is a skinny little kid. In the Mercy chapter she tells you she has no, you know those parts.
