I know, that it was a pirates' residence but... still Westeros May be wrong but I think it is due to the fact that supplies are hard to carry to the island since the waters are infested with pirates and clearing the path permanently would be took much effort for the size of the land that would be gained and constant supervision would be needed on the water to ensure the return of the Pirates does not occur Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It does seem like there should have been an attempt or 2 at subduing the mountain clans and taking over the stepstones, but its not out of the question that they wouldn't care. The same reasons in the 21century we have not subdued the pirates off the coast of Somalia. Eliminating the problem is not worth the resources needed to accomplish the mission. When did Bolton go over to Lannister? I just reread the chapter on Arya freeing the northmen at Harrenhall and it seems almost like the Bloody Mummers were already prepared to go over to Bolton. Was Bolton already in cahoots with Lannister at that time? If this has been discussed before and you know the thread post the link and I'll go read up on it. Her only source of knowledge about Westeros was Viserys who was only child at this time. IIRC Rhaella protected her son from King's madnesss.Even if Viserys knew abouth yhat he could lie to Daenerys.
