Isis
Yes, possibly - that was my question though. Nobody really mentioned the fact that another host was required other than the mammoth. You'd think some kind of carnivore would suit. But, if we go down the vomit on rather than hack open route then it could actually be something small, like a rodent which waits for the mammoths to lie down to sleep then pukes on its face. Sounds feasible to me. :) Yes, for sure, what we see in the show with the first host surprisingly the second host could definitely be a factor - it's unexpected and shocking. Absolutely. I mean, that's surely what happened with Liam, right? But it's still a risky proposition. But it's not always going to work, i.e. what happened with Elena. I mean ok, yes, she tricked and overpowered a child but what if she picked on someone bigger who fought back harder. I guess they try to knock out/knock down their victim first so they can't fight back. Again, ok, I'll accept that as feasible. Anyway, I am fascinated to know what they are going to do in S2 - presumably they will be totally done with the infectious disease angle, because much as someone like me would enjoy it I doubt you could have a show in that setting where the local population is attacked by a different microbe every few weeks. :)
red snow
It would make more sense for host number one to suicidally offer itself up for eating. I'd guess the larvae would survive in the stomach that way instead of ripping stomach open?
Isis
Why, yes, it would. That's what Dicroecelium does - or rather what it makes its host do (ant (on blade of grass) gets eaten by cow). Depends on host size, obvs. Small primary host small --> much bigger secondary host. It makes sense. And it actually happens in real life. I'm a big fan of the face puking scenario though. Lost opportunity there.
BigFatCoward
Finally got around to finishing. Loved it. Though was very grossed out by second last ep. It took me ages to work out where I knew dan from. He looks a lot thinner than beric now. No idea where they go next year. Would the flies with the drunken russian be able to survive the temp? Also when does frank the wank get done for torture?
The Drunkard
Finished it, enjoyed it a lot, especially episodes 8, 9 and 10. The final episode was a letdown but I didn't realize this was a multiple season show, so going in expecting a full resolution is probably colouring my impression. Ronnie's body has been nagging me, I expected it to play a much bigger role. The way they repeatedly showed his zombie-like twitching made me think he would eventually emerge and infect everyone (or the bugs would, as more information came out), but at the end he seems to have been torched without anyone ever noticing him. Not entirely sure how certain people were infected, like Sherley or Elena. Was it because of mammoth juice that went down the drain in the cold storage area? Isis
Shirley opened the doors and went into/looked into the lock up place where the mammoth was being stored. Pretty early on, that was. Elena, I'm not 100% on where she got it from, but there are a few possibilities. They kept showing the keyhole of the room where Ronnie was being kept. They also showed her sitting by that memorial, which as it turned out was in the shot when they pulled out the mammoth remains and burned them. The Drunkard
Ah, I had completely blanked on Shirley visiting the storage area. Is it airborne, then? That would explain Elena then given her proximity to Ronnie over all that time.
Zorral
Ended up hating it.
williamjm
Took me a while to finish watching the second half of the season, but I just finished it today. It's definitely an interesting show, although I think perhaps I might have preferred it if it had just focused on the murder plotline without bringing in the plotline about the parasites which was very creepy but felt a bit far-fetched. Visually it is stunning, the Icelandic scenery looks spectacular and the cinematography was very good. The soundtrack was also very atmospheric and I really like the theme song. Although there's only a limited number of likeable characters, I think the characterisation was done well and some of the acting was very good (Gambon, Dormer and Tucci in particular). The actor who played Marcus was also impressively creepy, even if his character did end up being a complete red herring. I'm not sure how I feel about a second season. The story doesn't really seem to be crying out for a sequel and some of the most intriguing characters have been killed off. After the events in the first season I'd also question how many people would want to keep living in Fortitude. Also, are we supposed to assume that the girl that Elena whacked on the head then stabbed with scissors dies? I was a bit confused about that as well. It does seem to be left vague. Castel
I'm not sure how I feel about a second season. The story doesn't really seem to be crying out for a sequel and some of the most intriguing characters have been killed off. After the events in the first season I'd also question how many people would want to keep living in Fortitude. Same here. It always felt like a very contained story to me and I thought they'd be completely decisive in closing it off. The problem is that it's pretty much a doomsday situation and one that you can only go so far with. It's not zombies, but microscopic little critters flying around infecting people now. Too many people infected and it's hard to see how it's not game over.
