Stubby
True. My top-edged hook shot (sans helmet) affected me in other ways. It became the only shot I could play with any repetitive success and I played almost everything off the back after that.
Hereward
Getting hit on the head ended my opening career and established me in the unusual batting position of "somewhere in the lower middle order when I was sure the quicks were fielding in the deep". Sort of like Grahame Hick, but without the centuries.
ljkeane
Chanderpaul gone just before the new ball. That looks like a serious blow for the Windies chances.
DJDonegal
I hope Cook and Trott aren't getting paid for this match. 28-4 between them.
Hereward
Time to drop them both.
Jeor
He top-edged a hook through his visor. He admits he still has nightmares about it. He can no longer deal with the prospect of the short stuff, hence his whole batting game has collapsed. Ouch, just youtubed it and looks like it was pretty bad. I guess that can affect your batting from that moment on. Myself, I could always play the hook pretty well. I'm a small guy and occasionally opened the batting (usually when one of our lazy opening batsmen didn't show up in time for our club match), fast bowlers tended to try and bounce the crap out of me. If you were a small guy and could play the hook you made lots of runs...unless you were me, who fell over his stumps and was out hit wicket. Arataniello
English top order really are a bunch of drivel. Still, lovely to have TMS commentating on a full 5 day match - shame there is no Blowers or Tuffers. Just waiting for Jimmy to now get his world record wicket. ljkeane
I think it's a fair way short of the world record but it'll be an English record at least.Bizarre decision from Blackwood to charge down the pitch to Jordan there, especially given the state of the game.ETA: This is a great effort from Holder. Coming in just as the second new ball I didn't think he'd last long but he's really showing up a few of the specialist batsmen.
Arataniello
Yes, English record of course. And he has just got it. just when the game seemed to be staggering towards a draw.
ljkeane
Good for Anderson. When you think back to the reasonably extended period he had out of favour to come back the way he has is impressive.Looks like he might be extending his lead at the top as well. Or maybe not. ljkeane
Holder gets his first test match, and first class, century and it looks like the West Indies are going to get a very creditable draw. Fantastic performance from Holder, and Roach too.
Hereward
Very well played by the Windies. I'm pleased for them.
ljkeane
A really good, patient hundred from Marlon Samuels and he doesn't look too bothered about it then immediately follows it up with a couple of wild swipes and he's gone. That's a very Marlon Samuels way to get out.
DJDonegal
Clearly my threat of no pay (I have that power) for Cook and Trott has finally put it right up them. England currently 120 without loss. ETA: 2 minutes later, Trott out. Should have kept my trap shut.
ljkeane
And Cook just scrapes past an lbw review by the skin of his teeth.

ljkeane
England 38-3 after winning the toss. That went well then. Trott lasted a whole 3 balls as well, I know they want to get him back in the side but I think they need to have a bit of a rethink about using him as an opener. Unless Trott scores a century in the second innings I think the experiment of having him opening the batting will probably come to an end. It is a bit worrying that this means England will be having to bring in a new opener with only a couple of Tests to get settled before the Ashes (and opening against Boult and Southee in early-season English conditions is unlikely to be an easy baptism). ljkeane
Yeah, you'd think they have to give Lyth a chance now.Hundred for Cook for the first time in a while. He's actually been playing reasonably well so hopefully this well help him kick on in time for the home series.
