TTTNE 452: The Spam Ball.

I did not use even 10 euros for phone talks and messages last month ... I have been talking to the family by skype mostly.

For £10 per month here you could have Skyped them from your phone and posted in TTTNE too :P

i think you can get them here for like 10 or 15 dollars per month with limited bells and whistles, but i refused the one they all got together and got me from AARP...and it was going to be free. i just don't feel the need to be in contact every second of every day...i am a hermit if truth be known...i even enjoy going to my beach house where i have no internet/cable just an old stereo and local tv...but i do have an ice maker

...i'm not a total barbarian ;)

I don't like the sound of the "no internet" part.

I pay £12.50 per month for my phone contract. It's an older model smart phone, but I get unlimited texts, unlimited minutes and 1 GB Internet. Oh, and I got a free Samsung tablet too. Budgeting!

Precisely! I pay about the same, but with a small minute cap, a moderate text cap and unlimited 4G <3 Watching Netflix while hanging around is wonderful.

I pay 30 per month for unlimited calls, texts and 500MB Internet. I'm not sure it was worth to change from the previous contract because I paid around 25 and had no internet. So basically I got some internet and a chance to talk and text a lot which I don't really make use of. :dunno:

My sister had a contract for 200MB internet and limited minutes (not sure of the limit) and texts for I think 15 per month. Plus standard billing for over the limit texts and minutes. She ended up having 60-80 phone bills. That was when she got the same contract as I have now.

Everything is in euros. No idea why the euro signs disappear.

I hope you get better asap. Are you taking antibiotics?

I had strep last week and the stomach flu the week before  somehow I managed to only miss one day of work. But that's when my mom decided to throw a tantrum and cut her trip a month short. Lovely.

Hopefully your fellas are pampering you and helping you get better :)

How is the substituting going? I imagine it will really start to pick up in the next few weeks until school is out.

Thank you. I have azithromycin

Husband is at work and Alex is hiding in the basement, so it is all good :) I have actually managed to sleep 16 of the [ast 24 hours. this is so rare for me

Substituting is going very well! Right now I have a long term job until April 10th as the reading resource specialist at my son's middle school

I work most every day :)

i ain't laughing my friend i am saluting...not only do i not have a smart phone i don't have a cell phone at all. my nieces all spend between 75 and 150 dollars per month for phone... i tell them "do you know how many cocktails that is..."

and i couldn't agree more people don't know how to act around each other. my pet peeve is people checking out of a store or market. at least have the courtesy to acknowledge the clerk with eye contact and your undivided attention. what does it take a minute...perhaps two...i have spoken rudely to people who act like a clerk, that has been standing on his/her feet all day waiting on assholes like that and are expected to remain polite and upbeat, is no different than an ATM machine...and for a person at a table eating a meal with someone else who has to keep looking at phone, touching phone....well they should take phone home and eat by the light of their screen saver, because they don't deserve the company of another human being...particularly a beautiful woman...<steps off soap box>

...just the opinion of this salty old fucker...

:smoking:

The phone thing is insane! I really don't get the need to keep updating them

I have a smart phone I bought 4 or 5 years ago(maybe longer) and I only pay $30 a month for my service

I've never owned a smart phone, because I'm a cheap bastard, so I can never use the "on mobile, can't do spoiler tags" excuse.

But even without a smart phone, I am disinclined to spoil anything for anyone. I've never understood the desire to ruin the experience for another of such fine storytelling.

And go ahead and make fun of me about the phone thing, but I spent 90 euro for over a year and a half to use my phone. I know people that spend 70 to 120 euro a MONTH. I think I win. When the wife kicks off her photography career, we'll probably get her one so she can, you know, look professional and all that. But I'm an IT person, and I don't have one. But one of my top 5 pet peeves is that people don't know how to communicate face to face any more. When I see a man on a date with an absolutely beautiful woman, at a sit down candle light type dinner, and he's looking down in his lap at his phone...cringe.

Not sure where all that came from, but yeah. No spoilers people. It's rude. :D

I really hate when people spoil things. It is just rudeness

Technologically literate, socially illiterate young people FTW! :D

FWIW, the reason so many people spend so much money on phones has more to do with financial illiteracy on their part than the phone themselves. You can get a good smartphone these days with data, calls and texts for <£100 per year in the UK if you know what you're doing. US is a little more expensive, but you can still do it for $250 ish per year. Probably less if you know where to look.

ETA: If you're interested, let me know, and I'll show you where to look and what to look for. :)

No doubt about the financial illiteracy, but there is this thing where people need to have the latest gadget, and as much as I love my gadgets, I just don't get it.

I also don't understand the number of kids with smart phones, serious!

Hope you get better soon Lany! Sleeping helps a lot, it should go smoothly now that you rest :grouphug:

Kids with smart phones topic. The cringing I get when 2-4 year old toddlers are begging for mom and dad's smart phones to play with at the table. I dunno, I had been a kid too and I could totally entertain myself in restaurants without playing games on smart phones...

Ouch, did that include a free phone? That sounds very steep, I'd forgotten how much more expensive some things can be in Europe.

^^^ what happened to crayons and toys mirite? And let's not even begin to talk about lack of kids playing outside

Sorry for you folks under the weather, hope you recover to full spamage potential soon.

Pfft, I started playing PC games at age 4 and console games right afterwards. I wish we'd had smartphones back then. I don't remember waiting around in restaurants ever being fun. It's one thing if you can go and run around, but too many restaurants seem to think that they shouldn't be treated as playgrounds.

Free phone, hahahahahaha. No. No free phone. They did have an offer for a bit more Internet and a free Samsung tablet (I'm thinking it's similar to Helena's contract) for a bit more money but I said no because I have a tablet and I don't want to pay even a bit more.

I dunno, I know it was boring but it's not like anybody dropped dead because of the half an hour boring wait in a restaurant. I know we had those gameboy thingies you could play games on and tamagochi and all sorta electronic stuff to play with back then too, but I don't think it was as far fetched as it is now with tiny kids. :dunno:

I pay something like €4 a month  And I've still got way more texts and minutes than I need. No internet included, but these days there's Wi-Fi everywhere anyway.

Or seeing five-year-olds with iPhones, ugh.

I used to draw on napkins a lot when I was in a restaurant as a kid. My parents still have a lot of those works of art lying around somewhere.

I need somebody who is not in the game to draw a picture for me ASAP.

royal sellsword might be more appropriate my Queen since i am somewhat short on knightly virtue... :leer:

There is no such thing as a royal sellsword, I am afraid. Sellswords tend to be ... well, disloyal. :P

Go and run around the restaurant maybe? Like, outside. Valonqar and I always did that, and there was never an issue. The inside of the restaurant is never to be treated as a restaurant, of course, but that is what yards are for.

I don't mind parents giving their kids their (parents') phones/tablets to play with in restaurants. What I object to is the kids owning their own smart phones...I am talking about kids as young as 10 (and sometimes even younger)

Our county has a "bring your device to school" policy that lets the kids bring them. And nearly every kid in middle school has one (not my son, we just can't afford it---but are looking at a pay as you go, no internet type phone for him...because he now goes to a lot of friends' houses and such)

I realized too late that my spawn was not ready for computer/kindle/apps.

So I have hidden most of the technology until he matures a bit. Which means lots of outdoor play and crafts and such. Subsequently that means no moments of rest for me. At all. Ever.

It is sooooo tempting to let technology entertain your child and take some of the burden off of you. But in our case it's not gonna work like that.

I remember being little and wondering why grown ups were always sitting. Always. They never wanted to play or have fun. I never understood what was so great about sitting.

Now that I'm a grown up, all I want to do is just sit for a freaking second. Just. Let. Me. Sit. In. Peace. For. 5. Minutes!!!

Funny how things change.

I was one of those weird kids who (one day a week at least, when my grandparents came over) just liked to sit and hear my grandparents talk about "the olden days" :p I could spend hours listening to those stories.

I can well imagine how tempting it is to let technology look after him for an hour or so, yeah.

Morning spam
