Could Sansa annul her own marriage? [SPOILERS]

Tyrion was a minor and had no power of his own. Tysha was a peasant, also a minor, with no powerful family to speak for her. Tywin didn't even have to annul the marriage - he could just terrify Tysha and Tyrion into saying it never happened - but that doesn't mean someone else can't use the Tysha marriage to invalidate the Sansa marriage.

This is what we know Tywin did: had Tysha gang-raped and sent away. If she ever tries saying "I was married to Tyrion Lannister" it could be dismissed as the ravings of a crazy woman or the schemings of a gold digger. Likewise, Tyrion was told that Tysha was a whore paid to humiliate him. So Tywin has it sewn up that neither Tysha nor Tyrion will say the marriage was valid. Was there a proper annulment or just Tywin (who is NOT a septon) forcing everyone into compliance? It seems like the latter.

But now Tywin is dead, Cersei disgraced and removed from power, Tyrion escaped and exiled. Everyone who has an interest in Sansa staying married to Tyrion is dead, disgraced, or disappeared. The Tyrells might well think it expedient to annul Sansa's marriage in order to marry her to Willas for real this time. Aegon, should he become king, might want to seek an alliance with the North/Riverlands/Vale and marry Sansa (after all, he doesn't need to marry Arianne to have Dorne, since he's [allegedly] Elia Martell's son). Littlefinger, of course, has his own marriage plans for Sansa.

If Aegon becomes king, he could have the Tyrion marriage annulled with no problem without a "Tysha." But LF could produce a "Tysha" from one of his brothels and then say, "The Lannister marriage is not valid, Tyrion was already married ty Tysha here, and Tywin didn't bother with an official annulment, he just scared everyone into complying with him in his own special Tywin Lannister way. Here's Tysha to testify how she's the real Lady Lannister."

I agree with this.

If some peasant walks up to a nobleman and says "yo, I married your daughter yesterday muh'Lord" it doesn't require the High Septon's involvement for the nobleman to go "no you didn't, piss off !". Okay, it's not a great example but my point is, there is a certain threshold before the marriage "counts" in the first place, and then it will require an annulment to be abolished. After questioning the Septon, Tywin didn't seem to think that threshold was met, maybe there are legalities such as Tywin needing to give his consent (what with Tyrion not being old enough), or similar.

This is an important point. I'm pretty sure that an underage noble scion like Tyrion can't lawfully marry without the knowledge and consent of his legal guardian. In Sansa's case, king Joffrey acted as her guardian (she was a ward of the crown, after all...). In Tyrion's case, he got a septon drunk and bought to forget what he was doing.

Given her thoughts in her latest gift chapter, it does not sound like Sansa has ever considered an annullment possible. Perhaps she is still young and it has never occured to her. She thinks as long as Tyrion lives but that is not true. Oh, much to learn she does.

Sansa doesn't know about Tysha (not beyond what LF told her, she existed), nor can she apporach the High Septon.

Yes she does:

"You were wed before? I . . . I had forgotten."

"You did not forget. You never knew."

"Who was she, my lord?" Sansa was curious despite herself.

"Lady Tysha." His mouth twisted. "Of House Silverfist. Their arms have one gold coin and a hundred silver, upon a bloody sheet. Ours was a very short marriage . . . as befits a very short man, I suppose."

Sansa's arc has partly been about overcoming prejudices. She'd learned that people who are physically beautiful could have an ugly soul, perfectly exemplified by Joffrey. She found an unlikely protector in the Hound, the single most savage looking person in court. She learned that a lot isn't as they seem, her knight Dontos was sent by LF, Marillion the supposedly sensitive singer wasn't gallant, and now she had finally admitted to herself that Tyrion as a person was kind and probably not that bad.

The snowflakes and constant mention of snow might well foreshadow Sansa/Jon, but if she's going to become a real playah, she'd realize how politically useful it is that she's married to the heir of Casterly Rock. Maybe she'll have other lovers along the way. Anyway to reach this conclusion she's got to finish her apprenticeship under (ew...) LF

You are right. I do see why would Sansa stay with Tyrion. Tyrion was married to Sansa to claim the north. But now that Tyrion is not in Westeros, Sansa can claim CR as well. It would be so good to see Cercei's face Sansa would make that move. Ok, I don't know if a woman can claim that place, but only thinking about is makes me smile. CR at the hands of the Starks :D
