[WOW SPOILERS] Paralells between Aerys Targaryen and Robert Arryn

Something about SweetRobin, he is very, very perceptive. Lyn Cobray likes little boys and he creeps out SweetRobin from the beginning, way back in the first books. SweetRobin has a dislike for Tyrion (Tyrion makes trouble for the Vale with the Mountain Clans later on) and I know many people like Tyrion and pitty him but book Tyrion has done a lot of shitty things and the HBO show has whitewashed him like they have with Cersei. SweetRobin is absolutely spot on with Harry the Heir (AKA Harold Hardying) and I am beggining to take whatever he says more seriously. The kid tends to get vibes out certain people that seem to be accurate. I do not know if he has had any with Littlefinger but he has nothing but good vibes about Alayne/Sansa which is cute but worth paying attention to.

My guess is that Sweetrobin's excellent perception is partially due to Lysa's nuttiness. She taught him to be weary of everything, except herself. Now that Lysa is gone, he needs someone to replace her role and the best substitute that happens to be nearby is Alayne.

There's a pretty good parallel between him and GOT Sansa. When Sansa said her father should've sent ser Loras instead of Berric to fetch Gregor she was right, but the logic behind her choice was flawed and I think that's what's happening to Sweetrobin as well. He reaches the right conclusions (Harry wants to take over the Vale, LF should be feared, ser Lyn is an unsavory character) but his success is largely due to superficial traits (like something is off in their physical appearance which frightens him) or to gossip.

The sample chapter does cut off at the moment something could happen. I would love SweetRobin to stand in his chair and tell off Harry and command him to get away from her and announce to everyone what he thinks of him and his intentions.

That does sound like a more reasonable thing to happen. A paralell to Aerys maybe, but a bit more toned-down and sensible when comparing a little boy to a mad tyrant. It could still mess up other peoples (Littlefingers) plans quite a bit.

I would love for this kid, Sweet Robin to do something epic, this kid may be the only person right now that has genuine feelings for Sansa/Alayne and not sexual or to inherit her birthright. Reminds me of Tommen with Margeary kinda but Harry the heir pisses me off and Littlefinger I want the Ramsay Snow treatment to fall on him.

GRRM loves your typical under-dog success story. And there's a pretty popular theory that Sansa's snow castle scene is a foreshadowing of her teaming up with Sweetrobin against LF.

Harry seems to have everything going for him, which means he's doomed in this Universe. In fact, having your daughter betrothed to Harry is a lovely cover story if he should die, it would appear as if you'd have nothing to gain from his death and everything to lose...

Longterm in the Vale, SweetRobin is littlefinger's best security so long as he lives, Harry on the other hand, has open disdain for Littlefinger. Littlefinger i assume is the "devlish" side of GRRM, that is why he is so well written.

Ha! Baelish = Devilish, I like it.

Ha! Baelish = Devilish, I like it.

I thinks GRRM relishes personally 3 characters purely for selfish reasons, Tyrion - the outcast, Baelish/Littlefinger - no inhibitions/messes with anyone in his way with no regrets and Varys - the man who knows all of the secrets and can move around incognito at his own will.

They are probably the toughest to write too. In order to create the feeling that LF, Varys and Tyrion are master players you really need to be careful with their story line, all the plots need to be carefully planed out and their schemes need to be revealed at just the right moment. Man, oh man, is that a challenge.

True and between the three of them, most of the story, South of the Wall and aside from the Iron Islands and most of Essos has been influenced by these 3 men. Littlefinger though seems to be his own henchman, unlike Varys has Illyrio and Tyrion simply has himself and his name and gold, Littlefinger is far more in the shadows and does it well. He is like the perfect medeaval Bond Villain, The Bloefeld of Westeros, Goldfinger/Littlefinger.

I hadn't noticed the common traits before, thanks for pointing them out. Since Aerys started out well-liked and ended bat shit crazy and Robin seemed nuts as a kid and a bit more normal now perhaps Robin is working his towards being more well-liked and normal. As others have pointed our SR is pretty perceptive and seems to be more in tuned with what's going on then people give him credit for.

Also, I don't think Harry the Heir is actually plotting to have Sweetrobin killed, nor particularly wants him to be murdered. He strikes me as thoughtless, dumb and arrogant, but so far not actually particularly malicious. It's more that he's *expecting* it to happen - most likely by natural causes so nobody has to dirty their hands with a murder - and expecting to pick up the pieces afterwards, as if it was a certainty.

Which, under Sansa's care, may actually not necessarily be the case.

Robin is smarter than people give him credit for, and his behavior is obviously due to Lysa's parenting rather than any inherent madness like with Aerys.

I just hope he throws Harry the Heir out the Moon Door  It would be a hilarious twist

The latest chapter surprised me. I thought he was a stupid kid, but he knows what's going on.

I kind of like Harry. Besides, the Eyrie is closed.

Have you two seen The Lion in Winter (1968)? SR reminds me of John.
