Football XXXIX: The Magic of M-S-N

I wouldn't get Sterling, but not because he potentially is a woman beater(even though that is a rather large factor), but because he isn't what Arsenal needs at the moment.

The current rumours for Arsenal are that they are close to getting Cech and that they started negotiating to buy James Milner.

That would be a pretty terrible bit of business.

Not because Milner's not great (I'm a fan) but because he's available on a free. ;)

My mistake then, both since I didn't know he'd be out of contract and from where I had to translate the rumour here didn't elaborate on the part. (It's Arsenal Balkan Gooners page on facebook btw, they keep track of everything Arsenal related)

I'll believe the Cech thing when I see it. I know Mourinho has given him leave to go where he wants, but I still don't think he'll sell him to Arsenal.

Mou's already said that if it was up to him, he wouldn't sell Cech to Arsenal. But from what I can gather, Abramovich is minded to let him go wherever he wants. Cech is apparently reluctant to uproot his kids so I guess that makes us favourites to sign him. We shall see...

Cech would be an excellent buy. The guy's still only 32 and was a dominant keeper for many years. If Arsenal get him, I just hope that he isn't one of those players that peaks early in his career and then it's all downhill from there.

Milner would be a decent addition too. But as always with Arsenal, you can never count on landing them until they're signed, sealed, delivered...

Is there a better available keeper in the world?

I don't know. Then again, my knowledge of football is fairly limited outside the PL. Though I think that his reputation has sky-rocketed the longer he has spent time on that bench ( See Joe Cole during the 2010 WC)

The two best goalkeepers from last year's world cup have been rotting on the bench at their respective clubs in Spain and will surely be amenable to a rescue. Keylor Navas probably being the more proven but Ochoa might be worth a gamble. Navas must be raging that they're so big on De Gea when he's barely been given a chance.

Surprised no one's mentioned Stoke's Asmir Begovic. Brilliant stopper who probably holds the unofficial PL record for number of MotM awards for a goalkeeper.

Shouldn't be too hard to wash the stink of Mordor from his hide, and I would love nicking the best player off the Orcs.
