This week's Sand Snake scene was brought to you by the most beautiful woman in the world (or else) [book spoilers]

I too suspect the antidote works temporarily, with Bronn needing a constant supply (or being made to believe he needs a constant supply) to win his loyalty.

The problem is, if they don't get out of jail soon, Bronn dies anyway.

Not disagreeing with you fundamentally, but perhaps the main reason we don't see many naked men is because it's men holding the cameras. It's not so much prudery as power.

I understand there is an issue with parental style qualifications and showing erect dicks

I really liked this scene, Rosabell was really good not just visually, but her acting performance as well. It was the first good dornish scene. First time SS got any real dialogue and were allowed to to display any sort of dynamic between themself. Also the direction was so much better then in the previous dornish scenes.

I hope it will lead to Arys O. or Darkstar situation. Bronn´s death was very strongly foreshadowed and there is the Checkov´s presence of Areo Hotah´s "axe". It seems very similar to how they handled Hound´s death last year. He was the main character of Arya´s storyline. Same here, Bronn is overshadowing Jaime during his mission.

It was definitely gratuitous I felt, but at the same time I agree with your first 2 sentences. it seemed to be the first characterization all season that the Sand Snakes got. Tyene got to be the young brash one, and the 2 other sisters were rolling their eyes. Obara obviously ain't got time for that shit, and Lady Nym got to be the "regal" one or whatever and be more dignified.

Yes Bronn will die. I think this was a classic bait and switch where you tease the poison only to have Obara or Hotah kill him later.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

That said, you could have removed any number of things from the scene and had the same result. Arguing that it's "gratuitous" is an aesthetic argument grounded in puritanical misconceptions of art.

Hmm i think you like using big words. The picture was set in theatrical art so that must now mean nudity combined within a prison cell, tell me though what does that sell?

Let us further combine considering the concept a serenade soothes even the most venomous of snakes?

I understand art, I'll buy that Dali

1. The scene was in excess of boobage, as we see less and less over the years.

2. The poison didn't make any sense. Bronn's adrenaline was spiked after the fight, so he should have felt the effects right away in the courtyard, if you ever been in a fight, you know your heart rate is pumping like a high speed engine right after it . . and it takes a while for your body's normal rhythms to come restore. The poison should have killed him right then and there.

3. The antecdote (sp?) being around her neck, can we say, "Willie from the Temple of Doom, anyone?"

4. They hav ruined the Dornish story line.

as someone who owns and uses alot of knives: if you gonna poison said knive, its best to keep the antidote somewhere close.

and its not like she had anywhere else to keep it...

yes. loved the boobies :-)

So what did y'all think of the Teenage Ninja Snakes this time around?

On the upside, the sexposition brought fond memories of past seasons, where sex was used to monologue and not to traumatize the viewer.

But what on earth was the point of Bronn's cut? And why did Tyene flash her boobs? Of all the gratuitous nudity we've had on the series, this takes the absolute cake.

And Tyene came off so petty/childish with the whole "was the most beautiful woman in the world, who?" shtick. It's like "women, amirite? Always concerned about their looks"

I don't know, man, not a fan. I mean, the actress has nice boobs, sure, but even Bronn was like, "Oh, you Dornish girls, you so horny!"

What was the point? The boobs were the point. It wasn't so bad because I knew the scene was coming from leaked scripts. But this is without a doubt the most gratuitous nudity that there's ever been in the show. It served no point.

Fine, you liked Tyene's rack, I get it. Can we move on?

That's not at all the point. The point is that ASoIaF is so full of sexual imagery that any nudity in the TV adaptation feels tame compared to the depravity of the books. Calling it gratuitous is suggesting that the source material isn't equally obsessed with sexuality, which just isn't true.

The nudity did actually have a point. By getting Bronn all hot and bothered, she increased his heart rate and altered bloodflow... things that will speed up the spread of poison in his system and make him take notice of his arm. She demonstrated power over Bronn. Either he now respects her as a badass or the "antidote" was only temporary and she now owns him because he is dependent on her to get more... Bronn's opinion of the SS is drastically altered and makes it more likely that he will side with them over Jaime. I have a bad feeling that Myrcella's pretty face is not going to last.

I haven't watched s5, just read reviews. But why should Bronn's opinion be so important to the Snakes? And if they are so strong! and independent! and proud! why would they need Bronn to side with them over him just dying?

"But... But he called me a little girl!"

No. Calling it gratuitous is suggesting that it adds nothing to the narrative besides the nudity itself.

The complain is not against nudity, or even the high use of nudity. The complain is against pointless nudity. There are no instances of pointless nudity in the books. Depravity, sure. ou'll even find Myrysh Swamps and Fat Pink Masts. But no pointless nudity/sex/rape.

It's not the books that originated the term "sexposition". The quote "play with her arse" is not from the books, and it wasn't there where Littlefinger casually shared his inner feelings with a whore.

It gave them an actual scene in which they were allowed to talk and built familiarity for a bit. That's the point of the scene. It was exactly what these characters needed. The subplot itself is about getting Myrcella out of Dorne and her marriage yay or nay. Granted, this isn't much, but I can't believe you are putting this a rung below any scene with Roz or Olyvar, characters that are genuinely only put on the show because we need more prostitution.

I found it silly mostly because Bronn is way older so more experienced. It's not like he's a 12 year old who'd get all hot and bothered by a pair of boobs standing, idk, 4 feet away from him. It's ridiculous (he was acting stupid before the poison was apparently making him more stupid and drowsy)

Bronn must have stolen some of TV-Littlefinger's Stupidity Pills.

Didnt notice Ramseys ass, Daarios ass, Theons cock(long ago :P ), Septon etc?

No GoT is not only female nudity. Just happens they show sluts a lot and you end up counting them.

Asses are different than frontal nudity.

In order for the number of cocks to equal even half the boobs we've seen, we'd need every main male cast member to strip naked every episode for the rest of the series. Even a couple of the cast, like Kit, have actually noted this glaring disparity. Of course, I don't expect David and Dan, who are predictable, to change a thing.

I've accepted that the show is visually catering to dudebros. It is what it is. I love ASOIAF, am invested in several of these characters, so I have to grit my teeth and sift through what I am indifferent to in order to enjoy what I prefer.

See, it's scenes like this which make me laugh when critics or fans proclaim about what great show this is. This felt like it was written by a 13 year old on drugs. It was that silly.

Hell, most porn movies come up with more sensible reasons for showing tits than this nonsense. :cool4:

It doesn't really though. All we know about them that we didn't before is that Tyene likes to get her boobs out. And why exactly does their "character development" come 2/3rds into the season after their big scene? Make no mistake this was for nudity nothing more.

That said I'm rather impressed by D+D's restraint. I was honestly expecting them to go full on with the porne in dorne, I was literally expecting the Sandsnakes to be lounging around naked as they planned out their schemes.

Your whole "argument" boils down to "Nudity in the books is gratuitous too!"

Well, guess what? I do think there are instances of gratuitous nudity in the books too (Xaro's dancers in aDwD, anyone?), but that doesn't make THIS scene less gratuitous by default.

It was gratuitous regardless of the source material, it is gratuitous whichever way you slice it.

I wouldn't bother trying to explain that to him - he doesn't listen to arguments, he's been explained the same thing countless times now, and all he does is repeating his thesis, no matter how often you explain to him why it's wrong. Put him on ignore, makes the thread easier to read.
