Predicting the Season's Final Episodes

Recommended Posts

Okay, here's my long winded summary of exactly what I think we might see happen in episode 9 based off the brief synopsis, preview clip, and my sullied book knowledge.

509 "The Dance of Dragons" Stannis confronts a troubling decision. Jon returns to The Wall. Mace visits the Iron Bank. Arya encounters someone from her past. Dany reluctantly oversees a traditional celebration of athleticism.

  • Jon and Wildlings reach the gates of the Wall into Castle Black. Ser Alliser mocks the punny numbers Jon managed to save and Jon shouts to him and the brothers what happened. Alliser remains stern and shouts back his convictions that The Wildings do not belong on the other side of the Wall, and Jon remains stern its an order. Alliser then curses Jon and let's him though. Olly scowls more at Jon.
  • Jon's party leads the Wildings on through to one of the Gift's abandoned villages. Jon and Tormund discuss what they saw up at Hardhome, and Tormund renews his pledge of loyalty, but warns Jon that his own crows may not be so loyal.
  • Arya walks the streets of Bravos and approaches the Thin Man again. She delivers the poison into the oyster, but becomes distracted when she sees Ser Meryn and Lannister soldiers escorting Mace Tyrell from the docks. She drops the vile and causes a scene. She makes a run for it. After getting away she finds herself back onto the trail of Meryn and Mace, as they head into the Iron Bank.
  • Mace meets with Tycho inside the Bank. The discuss the state of the Crown's debts and Tommen's poor reputation, as well as the recent circumstances with the Queen and Queen Mother. Mace is denied a loan and reminded that the Bank has ways of getting back it's owed funds. Mace tries to remain proud as he exits.
  • Coming out of the Bank is Mace and Meryn, and Arya keeps an eye from cover. She wants to act, but realizes she has not a way. Lucky for her she overhears Mace declaring that he's in no rush to return to the madness in Kings Landing, and he might as well enjoy Braavos for another few daya at least.
  • Stannis is approached by Ser Davos on the way into the war tent. After Davos gives his reports, Stannis tries to look for council about how they can survive the blizzard and reach Winterfell, with the subtext of him needing reassurance not to sacrifice Shireen. Davos is unable to tell Stannis what he's hoping to hear.
  • Melisandre talks to Selyse and begins to stir up her manipulations to sacrifice Shireen.
  • Jon learns of Aemon's death and Gilly's attempted assault from Sam. The two discuss the Walkers, the Night's King, their powers, and Valyrian Steel. Sam reminds Jon that they still know far too little if they want to be able to stop them when they inevitably reach the Wall.
  • Arya reports back to Jaqen. She tries to lie about her activities, but he isn't fooled, and he comes down hard on her. Arya says she needs the power to change faces, but is denied. Jaqen recognizes she is holding on to Arya and Arya's list. Arya renews her commitment to completing her work, but Jaqen is still unimpressed.
  • Arya fetches Needle from the hiding spot, and looks for a way to conceal it in her wheelbarrow. She clutches the broken poison vile in one hand, and Needle in the other.
  • Jon holds and looks over Longclaw, while Olly continues to give him death stares. Jon tells him to summon Sam to his chambers. Sam arrives, and Jon gives him the orders to head to Eastwatch, where he'll be put on a ship to Old Town and The Citadel to begin training as a Maester. Sam doesn't want to leave, but Jon insists that Sam was right earlier, and they need to learn more, not to mention Castle Black needs a successor for Aemon. Jon also tells Sam to take Gilly and the baby, and keep them safe, since he's aware Castle Black has become far too dangerous. Sam tells Jon to watch his back with that in mind.
  • A recovering Trystane is comforted by Myrcella. Mycella reminds him of why Jaime is there, and Trystane says he will not let his father be persuaded to let her uncle take her away from him. Trystane says he will confront him, and gets out of bed.
  • Jaime is brought in front of Prince Doran. Doran goes in hard and deep on him, about their Houses's recent shared history, Myrcella's wishes, Ellaria and the Sand Snake's recent attempted coup, and where their respective loyalties ought to truly lie. Doran draws Jaime a parallel between Ellaria's madness and Cersei's, and Jaime can hardly deny it. None the less, Doran says Myrcella may return to King's Landing, but Jaime must stay in her stead as a replacement ward/hostage and pledge Dorne his loyalty or die, ie an equal exchange, or no exchange. Jaime is unable to make the call, realizing Myrcella will not want to leave Trystane. Doran gives him a day to decide/convince Myrcella. Unseen, and from afar, Trystane has heard the whole thing.
  • Jaime goes to see Bronn in his cell. He tries to ignore the Sand Snakes. Jaime tells Bronn of his dilemma. Bronn says fuck the Prince, and get the job done, especially since they haven't got the good sense to also keep Jaime in a cell. Jaime leaves, feeling he's gotten no better answers. The Sand Snakes look to be scheming after what they've overheard from Jaime.
  • Night at Stannis's camp in a snowstorm. Selyse awakens Shireen. Shireen is unwilling to go, but Selyse gets forceful. Then Melisandre enters the tent, and both settle down.
  • Ramsay and his party are ready to ambush Stannis's camp.
  • Mels lights a small fire, and tries to tell Shireen about reading into the flames. She wants Shireen to offer herself willingly if possible. Shireen remains strong, and Mels looks into the flames on her own. She sees something not expected. Selyse asks to know. Mels turns towards her, terribly frightened.
  • Outside whole tents go up in flames, as Ramsay has set it ablaze, and his men ride in to attack in the chaos. Stannis and Davos work to lead their men to fight off the attack.
  • Ramsay, satisfied with his devastation, though unable to kill Stannis, rounds up his men to fall back. But for Stannis and Davos, the worst blow has been dealt. Selyse, in religious mania, trapped herself and Shireen in a burning tent. Mels is seemingly just as stunned, still stuck on the vision she saw as the attack began.
  • Night in Dorne. Hotah walks along his watch. Away in the dungeon, The Sand Snakes call out to Bronn in his cell. They tell him "it's time." Bronn asks them about what, but they tell him nothing but to do the job he came here to do, take the Princess. One of the snakes distracts a guard, and the other incapacitates him. They break out of their cell. They look to Bronn to see he's on board, and with his answer, they let him out.
  • Jaime knocks on the door of Myrcella's bed chamber. He pleads for to let him in. He gets no response. He hears a noise. Trystane and Myrcella climb out a window. They run from the courtyard to the hidden passage Ellaria used. Jaime busts open the door and realizes she's fled.
  • Tyrstane and Myrcella are ambushed by Bronn, who forcefully grabs Mycella from Trystane, while two of the Sand Snakes grab a hold of him, and the other tires to open up the gate. Hotah shows up. Bronn pushes Myrcella away so he can attack Hotah, but Hotah gets the better of him, and cuts down Bronn, killing him dead. The continuing struggle leads to Myrcella unintentionally being cut by one of the snakes, who then surprisingly horrified, flee, while Hotah holds back an enraged Trystane. Jaime arrives finally on the scene with the guards to find a bleeding out Myrcella and Bronn. He is quietly emotionally destroyed and he picks up Myrcella.
  • Meeren. A crowd pouring into the Pits. Dany is with Daario, who tries to assure her this kind of bloodlust is what makes the games great. Dany tells him to stay on ground and keep a watch. Grey Worm then comes and takes her to where Hizdar and Tyrion are meeting for the first time. Tyrion is trying to gauge this future king, but they are interrupted by Dany, whom Hizdar tries to educate in his charming way as they make their way up to their viewing box. Once there the full crowd is shown, and they cheer the Queen.
  • Down bellow Jorah and the others prepare for the fighting.
  • The games begin. Jorah enters the pits and has a great fight, but down below Harpies are converging.
  • The Harpeis emerge begin killing every non gold masked free person in sight. Masters in the crowd pull out masks and knives of their own and join the slaughter. The Unsullied fight back, as does Daario and Jorah on the pit ground. Tyron gets separated from Dany's escaping party, as does Hizdar.
  • Tryion grabs a dagger from a fallen Harpy, and rushes back towards the pit to find Dany.
  • Out of places to go, Grey Worm leads Danny and Missandei down onto the Pit grounds, and joins Jorah and other unsullied to 360 protect the Queen from more and more Harpies converging on them. Then one more Harpy walks onto the grounds. He removes his mask and is in fact Hizdar. Daario quips he called it. Hizdar asks Dany of she'll surrender and leave Meeren to it's rightful people. Dany refuses and the Harpies ready to all out attack her party. And then...
  • Dragon flames set ablaze a hundred Harpies at once, including Hizdar. Tyrion watches in amazement, as does Dany and her party. Drogon unleashes more flames, this time hitting unsullied and slaves as well indiscriminately from Harpies. Drogon lands down on the ground and roars. Dany yells at everyone to run. Her loyal protectors refuse, but she demands it, and Drogon roasts more people to the side. Dany looks up at Drogon, and Drogon turns to and stares at her. Dany slowly walks closer, and Drogon roars. She keeps her stare, unafraid. Then Drogon lowers his neck, and Dany mounts herself on him. Drogon flaps its big wings, and the two take off into the sky.

My episode 10, Mother's Mercy, guesses. Broadly I expect to see;

Arya seduce and kill Ser Meryn, and finally be rewarded with a face change.

Stannis sends Melisandre back to the Wall, unable to fully blame or execute her, not to mention hearing her new vision which she tells him that she will need to be at the Wall, with her full power when the Lord's chosen will return victorious over death.

Sansa and Theon escape from the Boltons as Stannis attacks Winterfell. Brienne and Pod storm Winterfell, and are confronted with both Stannis and Roose to kill, Brienne ultimately kills (I DONT WANT TO CALL THIS YET). Davos crosses paths with Theon and Sansa?

Cersei makes her walk of shame. Humiliated, she is given some hope when Qyburn shows her the perfect champion for a Trial by Combat, "Ser Robert Strong."

Jaime takes Myrcella and leaves Dorne with no resistance from Doran. When Trystane confronts Doran about letting the still alive and non-face scarred Myrcella go, Doran calls in Elaria, whom he says he will tell him what he's told her, that Trystane is not whom he thinks he is, and that his betrothal to Myrcella was never to be, as he's been long intended for another, a Queen he's soon to meet, and with whom, Dorne will take their overdue vengeance with "fire and blood."

Sam and Gilly leave Castle Black to head to Old Town. Jon is confronted plans for the Winter, as a white raven has reached the wall, announcing its begun. He orders the watch to discuss lending further aide and food to The Wildlings in the Gift. The Brothers refuse. When Jon stands up, Olly stabs him in the back, and the others join in, stabbing Jon as he tries to get up and crawl away.

Dany has a brief vision quest in the grasslands, and is then picked up by Dothraki. She speaks to them, and they pledge to follow her as her new Khal.

Tyrion with Dany's other protectors try to hold together Meeren in her absence, which is still roaming with Harpies. The Unsullied have managed to fight off a great many, and others are finally fleeing. Tyrion worries that the Astapor and Yunkai might be already on their way to seize the city amidst the chaos. Daario tells him he has seized the Yunkish fleet, and they will fight to keep the ships secured til the Queen returns, maybe finally ready to leave Slaver's Bay behind. Tyrion points out that they will not waver in retaking a Meeren with no queen and no dragon, to which Tyrion realizes the other two are still locked below the pyramid, but maybe not for long. He's right and Harpies fight to break Viserion and Rhaegal free, trying to mount them like Dany did Drogon. The two dragons get loose. And Tyrion watches as they fly over the Pyramid. Approaching the gate is Dany, with her new Khal behind her, and Drogon flying high above her.

In Kings Landing, Varys reemerges, having killed Pycelle, he points the crossbow at Kevan, and tells him he's sorry, but the realm under it's current regime must not be restored to order by a smart man like Kevan, after Cersei did such an excellent job destroying it. The dying Kevan asks who Varys serves, and Varys says "the good of the realm".

That's some bold predictions. And I would say it wraps the series up quite nicely leaving us at where book 5 left off. Except of course for the Greyjoys.

But are you really calling it that there will be no brief appearance of Yara Greyjoy?

I enjoyed reading that.

I think however that Mel has to leave for the wall in episode 9. And I think the last shot that we see of Arya is that of her waking up blind.

I also think that Ollie will be the last stabber, not the first, and that the last shot of Dany will be her flying away on Drogon.

But who knows - you might be right on the money.

That's a helluva lot for one episode. My only quibble is that Mace left KL before Margaery was taken? and maybe Loras too? So if he hears that both his children are in a dungeon somewhere and that Cersei is also behind bars, he won't simply sit around in Braavos enjoying the sights.

I agree with a lot of that prediction. With the exception of the Dornish plotline, I have generally a similar thought on most of it, I think. This is the answer I gave on another forum with my predictions:

________________________________________

Dorne:
It will be a handful of short scenes between Doran/Ellaria/Sand Snakes. Doran threatens Ellaria with the ultimatum of loyalty to him or death–but also reveals to her some version of the Dornish Master plan. Ellaria chooses loyalty to Doran/Dorne and will convince the Sand Snakes on his behalf (because he won’t confide the plan to them). He meets with Jaime–who will agree to leave Bronn in Dorne to protect Myrcella, while taking Ellaria (or one of the Sand Snakes) back to KL both as a hostage and as a Small Council member.

Bronn will make jokes/sing, but also “bond” further with Tyene.

(Possible alternative: Jaime makes a deal to help Doran with some element of the Dornish Master Plan–though he won’t know its full scope. He stays in Dorne with Myrcella or somehow guarantees her safety otherwise. Bronn and Tyene are sent back to the capital together so she can sit on the Small Council or as an emissary to the throne. Bronn will still sing.)

King’s Landing:
Cersei obviously has to deal with her walk of shame.

Margaerey is released to Tommen, but Loras is not. Trial by Combat declared for both Cersei and Loras (seperate trials? maybe just one?). Olenna and Magaery will scheme, somehow, to get Loras out. (Maybe the Faith will let Tommen choose either Loras or Cersei to pardon–Margaery will get him to choose Loras?)

Kevan is back. He will hate the Faith Militant. He will start to get the house back in order, however. Taking steps to teach Tommen, work with Olenna, and make plans to disarm the Faith once again.

CRACKPOT– Loras will not be released. He falls victim to a brutal punishment for his alleged “crimes” (possibly similar to the fate that Theon suffered?). Outraged, Olenna and House Tyrell force the throne to disarm or fight the Faith Militant in the city. This will plunge the approval of King Tommen to irrevocably low levels and sow chaos in KL. (This might be where the season ends here? Leaving King’s Landing ripe for a Queen’s landing?)

Kevan will make clear progress in negotiating new deals and shoring up the Lannister/Tommen power. After Cersei's return, she is defeated/resigned but resentful--especially to Pycelle. After the trials by combat have been scheduled, Varys will pop up and murder Pycelle and Kevan like he does in the books.

This is later, but I think the High Sparrow will find a new target on which to afix his righteous gaze (perhaps persecution of anyone who follows the Old Gods/the Red God?, but I don’t think it will be someone in particular).

Mereen:
I agree vaguely with what the books do. What confuses me most here, is how Dany will physically move from her Dais/Box-Seats to the middle of the fighting pit.

My thought is that Dany will be revolted by the amount of brutality. When she realizes Jorah is fighting and about to be killed, she calls for the fighting to stop. She walks out to center stage (pit), and gives a moving but futile speech re-banning the fighting pits. Hizdar reveals himself to be the leader of the Sons of the Harpy. He gives one of those villain-explain-everything speeches, thinking Dany is vulnerable. He sends in the Sons to attack Dany. Daario kills him, Tyrion escapes with Missandei. Drogon arrives and …fire and blood.

There will need to be some serious time spent in Mereen to develop the Tyrion/Dany dynamic. And, possibly, to establish relationships between Tyrion and the other advisors. He will not like Daario or Hizdar, will be impressed with Missandei, and ambivalent(?) but cooperative with Grey Worm.

Dany’s arc will end out in the Dothraki Sea, as she wakes up to find herself lying on the ground next to Drogon who is in turn surrounded by Khal Pono’s khalasar…

The advisors will all look to Tyrion for thougths, except for Daario who will be recalcitrant. Daario will go out to look for Dany while Tyrion and crew are left to manage the city’s affairs. Perhaps the last we will hear from them is a report of how the Harpies/Masters from Astapor and Yunkai are moving in for attack.

Braavos:
Arya, in her mission to kill the Thin Man, will find herself on the docks looking upon a familiar face. That face will belong to Ser Meryn Trant.

She will abandon her mission and try to kill Ser Meryn–she almost fails, but is aided at the last moment by the Waif. Who will take her back to Jaqen/no one, and rat her out.

CRACKPOT– This is where she will begin to align with her book plot–potentially having her vision taken away as punishment/training. She will figure out how to warg, but also get deeper into the Faceless Man training. This is where her season ends (warging into a cat?).

Winterfell/The North:
Melisandre will take further steps to try and burn Shireen. Stannis will continue to refuse,…but Selyse will secretly approve and burn Shireen. Stannis will send Mel back to the Wall, execute his wife (hopefully).

I think the Ramsay attack alluded to in Episode 8 will happen, but be fruitless. Yara Greyjoy will catch them off guard before they do major damage to Stannis and co. Ramsay will escape. Yara teams up with Stannis in the hopes of rescuing her brother.

While Ramsay is away, Myranda is told to watch Reek/Sansa. Theon will try and help Sansa escape. They will find Brienne. Myranda hot on their tales, but Brienne will dispatch her/anyone helping her to protect Sansa and Theon.

Brienne will be sent to go find Rickon/Bran (taking Davos’ storyline from the books?). Sansa will head toward Stannis. Yara/Theon reunion.

I think Stannis and team will be just about ready to attack Winterfell, but the battle will be saved for the beginning of next season.

The Wall:
Jon will send Sam to the Citadel for training and to take Gilly and her baby south for safety. Probably to Lord Tarly–since there is speculation he will be a large part of next season. With Mel back, we will also see some interchanges between her and Jon.

Wun Wun or Tormund is fighting in the yard with some brothers in black. Jon stops them. Olly gives him a piece of his mind, lunges to stab Jon but misses. Suddenly we hear Jon get stabbed from the back. Its Edd. The rest of “For the Watch” happens, but Mel intervenes with some crazy Gandalf-like magic. She brings Jon back to life. (Carice Van Houten said in her #AskGoT twitter chat that she still has a big scene with Jon). I think after his revival, Mel will reveal Jon’s parentage. And that will be the end at the Wall. I also think this will be the final scene of the season.

Does anyone have any idea if Baelish will show up again this season?

I really enjoyed reading your predictions. They were pretty detailed and descriptive. I agree with pretty much everything except for the Winterfell stuff with Sansa/Theon. I don't think she'll leave, but instead, kill Myranda with the corkscrew she grabbed in episode 7. Maybe she defends herself against a jealous Myranda in some way? I just don't Theon has broken "Reek" enough for an escape to happen in one episode. Maybe eventually they'll leave in season 6 (I personally don't want to watch her escape again, I'd rather see her take back Wintefell).

The stuff you said about Dorne was interesting. I hope Bronn doesn't die! I'll be so sad if he does.

I don't think Littlefinger is coming back this season. I read somewhere that Aidan said episode 7 was his last episode of the season. He spent a lot of time last year filming The Scorch Trials with Dylan O'Brien.

I really like this. The corkscrew killing Myranda makes sense. I also agree kind of with your point about how Theon hasn't broken out of his "Reek" shell yet, but I feel like he will still have to be a component of how Sansa's story wraps up this season. Also, I'm just unconvinced about Brienne doing much this season.

I disagree with the entirety of your Dorne predictions. I don't think they're planning to have that much focus on Dorne in these last episodes where monumental things are going down elsewhere.

Dorne needs like one more scene, where Doran receives first Jaime (and sends him off, possibly with Myrcella) and then right after the Sandsnakes+Ellaria (Fire and Blood speech). A possible second scene might be on the horizon if they want to kill off Bronn, after all he struck a prince - so he might have to undertake a trial. Bronn will of course say "f*** that" and will thus have a trial by combat with Areo Hotah. The soundtrack released sort of supports that unfortunately.

We haven't seen Myranda since the wedding. I'm curious as to what she's been up to or what happened to her. It would be nice to see a corkscrew in her eye or something. I thinking something involving Myranda and Sansa(perhaps Theon) might happen while Ramsay's out on his raid. It could also be an opportunity for Brienne to make a move....any move.

Episode 9:

Stannis refuses to burn Shireen. Ramsay attacks Stannis' camp, kills or captures Shireen

Jon returns to wall with tensions between NW and Wildlings. Jon sends Sam & Gilly away

Everyone pops out to boil the kettle when Dorne appears. Girl with nice boobies gets closer to Bronn and turns him into Oakheart. Doran tries to get his ducks in a row

Arya kills Ser Meryn Trant

Brienne stares at a tower, a cock merchant passes by and wonders what she's up to

Daznak's pit, Daeny surrounded by harpies. Drogon saves the day. Jorah possibly dies sacrificing himself, or they keep him for S6 to keep Tyrion company and because he's the antithesis to Daario. Daeny flies away on Drogon.

Episode 10:

Cersei confesses and does her walk of shame

A pissed off Stannis reaches Winterfell

Brienne meets Stannis

Boobies

Daeny gets herself a new khalasar

Doran says stuff

Jon's FTW, many unsullied tears will be shed

And finally but it's only wishful thinking... tower of joy

I could see them leaving Pycelle and Kevan for early season 6 shockers, which throw KL into more disarray

I really have no idea what will happen this year, and I love it. Really there are only a couple of story lines where we can be sure what happens.

What I want:

I want Theon to talk to a tree.

I want Brienne and Pod to recruit Theon

I want Sansa and Theon's last scene to be them jumping off of the walls, Butch and Sundance style.

I want a known character to release the Dragons, preferably Tyrion or Jorah.

I want there to be a good reason to stab Jon, he needs to give them too much power or to try to lead an army of them south.

I want Thorn to hang the mutineers and not support them

I want Ramsay to capture Mel and that is why she sees herself in Winterfell in her visions.

I want Stannis to fake his death but the show not to reveal it until the next season (so Stannis appears to die in the next couple of episodes)

I want Shireen to live

I want Drogon to eat harpies

I want Dany to fly off on Drogon.

I want the evil prostitute in Meereen to be revealed as the mastermind behind the harpy attacks and have a really badly written reason for the whole thing

I want Cersei to do her walk and beg forgiveness and for Keven to fear she is broken

I want Frankengregor

I want Jaime to betray Cersei but get himself in a whole lot of trouble, and on the wrong side, when he does so.

I want Obara to break ranks and turn into Darkstar

I want the other snakes sent into other story arcs

I want Bronn to live and get back Lollys

I want Arya to go blind as punishment for killing Trant

I want Sam to be sent to Old Town, preferably mentioning a stop at Braavos on the way, before Jon is stabbed.

I want Varys breaking the fourthwall, for no good reason, then, remembering himself, finishing Kevan off

I want to live forever in a land where summer lasts a thousand years. I want a castle in the clouds where I can look down over the world. I want to be six-and-twenty again. When I was six-and-twenty I could fight all day and fuck all night.

Really want to see Mel show her full power- we didn't have the burning of the eagle in the show so her failure to see Ramsey's attack will diminish our perception of her magic even more. D&D's characterisation of her is so limited and one-note, making her motivation and power artificial. I want to see her as the star of a scene again (like the shadow-baby scene).

I am nearly positive Jorah will die. He's now been banished twice. He has greyscale, which I don't see them pushing into next season without some sort of resolution. And I don't see there being some miraculous cure coming out of nowhere in the last 2 episodes with so much else going on. He will die sacrificing himself for his Khaleesi. 95% sure.
