How much of an Internet firestorm will Cersei's scene cause? (Book Spoilers)

Recommended Posts

On the show, Qyburn has said her charges are incest, fornication and the murder of King Robert. In the books it's just the sleeping around so it is slut shaming, but on the show it's not.

IIrc in the books the charges are sleeping around + deicide for killing previous high septon and kingslaying, she only confess sleeping around, is punished for that with the WoS, and other charges remain for her trial. Show may or not follow that at this point.

But do you think Cersei really appear that bad in the show ?

Carol is not ASOIAF mad queen Cersei, her only crime is to have got Robert killed, most other bad things book!Cersei did, like getting the bastards killed, it's Joffrey who did them in the show, and Cersei was just the poor mother having that cruel son but still loving him. She hadn't even slept around a lot as there were no Kettleblack. And she got lot of scenes to make the viewer pity her, from the one about her lost son with Robert to her conversation with Tyrion about their unwanted marriages, and one big badass moment when she told the truth to Tywin.

Are there no show!Cersei fans around after all that ?

I agree 100%. A lot of the Cersei's thoughts and actions from the books did not make the translation to the show, and as a result, Cersei appears an almost sympathetic character, in the way you noted. Not sure if that will result in any backlash from non-book readers, but it will probably paint the Faith in a darker light in their eyes.

I just don't get how the Faith supposedly has the support of the people as portrayed in the show. Sure all the smallfolk are probably overjoyed to see their noble oppressors get their comeuppance, but I seem to recall the Faith storming into brothels and taverns, destroying the places and publicly shaming, if not outright assaulting anyone there. I promise you, poor people drink and engage in a lot more debauchery than the nobility. A populist movement isn't going to win over fans by outlawing popular things. :P

Have you read the books? That's not true at all, that's just what Cersei confesses to. WHy else does she have a trial coming up for which she needs Robert Strong?

Also your signature doesn't make sense. Aegon VI would have five Aegons before him, not six.

I think they will, seems the obvious place where to use RS (trial by combat). My guess is she will confess to the fornication, and do the WOS so she can be reunited with Tommen.

This whole "arc" with the faith has felt very "ham-fisted." The background and timeframe all feel like they are missing. Margery feeding the "poor" and so on don't really cut it as far as the folks of King's Landing embracing the zealots. We're not only missing the present we've also not got much of the history.

Good find indeed !

But are we sure this picture is from 509 ? I know what the URL says, but I cant take it as confirmation. Maybe it's from 510 since I dont think KL will appear this episode.

While I don't think that Sansa Bolton had it coming, I think people are way to easy with her. Her dad lost his head because of Sansa betray, Arya's friend (the butcher's son) lost his life because Sansa cowardice and complicity with her adored Joffrey. On second thoughts, she had it coming.

I don't think you can go too easy on an 11 year old girl who honestly thought Queen Cersei was a nice a beautiful queen. It's not like Cersei manipulates people or anything #sarcasm

I don't think Sansa deserves punishment for the things that happened. She suffered the consequences by losing her dad and that is way a lot to deal with already. Also Ned's death was primarily due to Joffrey being a little shit. Even Cersei didn't know it was going to happen so how is Sansa supposed to. It is also due to him telling Cersei what he was going to do believing he had already won. It's so stupid how people think the only reason he died was because of Sansa. If he was simply leaving KL and Sansa ratted him out it would have meant nothing. He is the one who created the situation by snooping AND telling Cersei about it.

Arya's friend probably would have been killed by Joffrey one way or another no matter what Sansa did. Of course this is not Sansa's best moment, but she was scared and said "I don't know." Again, she was a child. It's not that strange for her to act immaturely. I think people are holding her to an impossible standard considering she hadn't even gotten her period yet.

Like, I'm not saying she didn't do dumb things/act immaturely, but she certainly doesn't deserve abusive punishments for these things, especially considering it takes two to tango and these situations were not created entirely by her. And wow yes, I guess all little girls who make mistakes/act somewhat selfishly deserve to be cruelly raped by psychopaths.

[mod] "She had it coming" and rape apologia is not appropriate on this forum. Apparently the mod warning isn't extended into this forum like it is for the other TV/book forums, so consider yourselves warned, folks.[/mod]

Cersei's walk can't come in this episode because she hasn't agreed to confess to any of it yet.

I find the objections misplaced. This is fiction and nowhere do the author/producers say it is a good thing.

What people should have a problem with is the slut shaming actual religious zealots do in real life. All those school principals who can't find anything more important to do than to send girls home for a skirt deemed too short or threaten to ruin their college applications in petty revenge of protesting about the mandatory 'abstinence only' sex ed being taught by a religious nut.

there is nothing they could do to Cersei's character short of having her raped that could cause and outcry. The walk of shame will be nothing. The internet breaking will be either something with Sansa and Winterfell, Stannis, Jon or Dany and or tyrion with dragons.

.

I agree. I am guessing the job stabbing will break the internet. Tyrion with dragons that would be cool.

What happened to book jeyne and show sansa was awful, revolting, horrible. The stuff that happened to book sansa... I have limited sympathy. She's stuck with joff treating her like crap because she chose him over Ned. I wouldn't say she deserves it but I don't think she learned anything from it, either.

Again, what happened in the show was different.
