Where do we go from Here? With tears...

Recommended Posts

Never thought I'd say this, but I'm rooting for Bolton now in the upcoming battle. Stannis deserves to lose after that. I'm disappointed in Davos too. He had to know what was coming but didn't do anything. I was hoping he'd defy orders and take Shireen with him. I can't even believe his men took those orders. If I was one of his bannermen, a resounding "f you" would follow if you asked my men to do that. Even Selysse couldn't stand to do it despite all her zeal, and it gave you a fleeting moment of hope that literally went up in flames all too quickly.

On the opposite side of the spectrum the Mereen scenes were awesome. Jorah seems to have earned Dany's trust, at least partially, again. He saved her life and it was a tender moment when she took his hand, even if that's all he's likely to get from her. Daario trusting Jorah just like that was nice too. And Drogon coming to the rescue was just awesome. We've been waiting five years for this after all and seeing him in action was great. One small nitpick though... with all those spikes on his back, though they make convenient handles, wouldn't have Dany impaled herself?

Anyways, what sort of screwed up alternate universe are we in that I'm disgusted with the Stannis scene and the Dany scene left me pumped? As for where we go from here, it seems the finale's going to end with Cersei's walk of shame and "For the Watch." As things stand we're pretty much caught up with all the book material, even ahead in some places.

as long as you realize that the books and shows are two different creatures... Davos isn't even at the wall.

I think stannis genuinely loves his daughter but he is bound more my duty. I still hold he does not want the iron throne but only seeks it because that's what's right and just. He was roberts next in line. I think Shireen is just a tragic victim of stannis seeking the greater "just" cause.

I will admit I was shocked that she was burned and wished he would have stopped it for sure. But stannis is a do things Bc they need to be done. Not for enjoyment or grief.

Shocking turn for sure but I understand enough of his character to kind of go ....yeah I get it.

I agree. In his mind he is doing a cold equation, he's holding one life up against the rest of the realm and measuring.

I can't believe someone would think that burning Shireen is out of character for Stannis.

Stannis believes that he is Azor Ahai reborn. Azor Ahai sacrificed Nissa Nissa in order to forge Lightbringer. Stannis knew that and he was willing to kill Edric Storm/Gendry all the same, because he believes that the sacrifice of one innocent is needed to fight the Great Other.

This is the true Stannis.

Im sorry... this show has completely jumped the shark in different senses.. ... so they make Stannis a sympathetic Character in one scene with the sweetest little girl ever.. only to build it up so he can burn her alive? practically on screen.. are you kidding me?! Imagine he exiled Mel and made the right choice.. we would have someone to root for next week in the Winterfell showdown.. now its just two hated sides fighting against eachother.. what fun is there in that.. The Fighting pits would also have been better if we hadn't heard the screams of a little girl incinerating prior.. everything was secondary after that horrible sequence.. I understand that this is GOT and bad things happen even to good people.. but sometimes stories need to have Justice and Good people succeeding.. I dont want to watch something that constantly depresses me... over and over... but thats just me ..personally.. anyone agree? It was his ONLY HEIR!!!!!!!!! D & D's arrogance is mindnumbing... oh and Jon doesnt even mention to his fellow Watchmen that an army is coming and he just witnessed some serious stuff? i need to slam my head against a wall..

What Stannis did has nothing to do with "duty." It was the act of a monster fueled by blind ambition.

I'm with you. Taking Stannis from a hard-to-like, divisive, yet ultimately grey character to just another entirely unsympathetic bad guy is lame. Roose or Ramsay doing their thing would be a mercy killing; D&D have mangled this character.

I don't really buy that George saw Shireen's burning going down this way.

The saddest part of the whole Shireen thing is that Stannis believes - or he gives the appearance of believing - it's for the best. Namely, the survival of the Realm.

He's sacrificed a brother & was willing to (at the very least, he was willing to consider) sacrifice a nephew to achieve his goals. Depending on how you choose to look at it, he's either a complete megalomaniac or he's the only one willing to do what's needed.

And, whatever else you may take from the whole Shireen burning, he had the balls to come out of his tent and watch his daughter die - he wasn't being cowardly and off hiding somewhere, he made the decision and saw it through to its conclusion.
