Small things

-the look exchanged between Dario and Jorah. It was like each man acknowledged the other's role in Dany's life, and knew that neither would ever physically hurt her, and that both would give their own life, if necessary, to save her

-Jorah suddenly hurling that spear at Dany, in order to kill the Harpy behind her

-that Princess Shireen took the carved wooden stag to her death (sob)

-that Alliser let Jon and the free folk in

Good catch. They're both very good actors, although Huismann (sp?) hasn't been given much chance to show it as Daario.

Dany's theme song was good, as usual. And I still don't see the dead face on Emilia Clarke that everyone sees.

I thought she was quite good in this episode. She managed to convey a lot of emotions with just her eyes during the Jorah scenes.

The "Aw, she's welcoming him back" moment immediately followed by "Oh f*ck no don't TOUCH greyscale boy!" when Jorah touches Dany - is she going to be on a deadline too?

...and this.

I really liked the fighting in the pit, especially the water dancer.
Drogon setting ablaze those SotH was very good even though I've always imagined it to be way more messy and destructive (but I don't blame them, it's TV, they've got limits).

I'm usually not a huge Emilia Clarke fan but I have to admit that she was excellent in this episode.

I don't want to delve into the other scenes yet, I'm still excited by Dany being Epic!Targaryen and not Crazy!Targaryen.

- The whole Bronn, "Am I going to be happy at the end of this walk?"/"The most beautiful girl in the world."/getting a fair's-fair elbow from Hotah while Jaime smirks sequence was delightful

- I love Doran's characterization, the one guy who understands that war is hell and doesn't want to go back there just because, and his steely-eyed stare

- A decapitation was the laugh-line of the show

- Hizdahr's death surprised us. It also explains why they didn't spend too much time talking over the pros/cons of her marriage...

- Drogon's teeth were bloody when he smiled at Dany. Adorable.

- The initial moments of the SotH ambush gave me chills, as bad as hearing the dogs barking during Hardhome. I don't know if I can take much more of this.

- Jorah almost lost to a water dancer. Miss you, Syrio.

- "The thin man wasn't hungry today." "That is why a thin man is thin."

Your weekly positive nitpicking thread. Please remember, only your positive thoughts, none of the negative ones, please.

I'll start with my top five, as usual.

1. Dany rides Drogon!

2. Jorah spearing that SotH behind Dany suddenly.

3. Dillane's acting.

4. Selyse finally, finally has a motherly moment when it's far too late.

Totallyagree, i would have been called DCF on her ass a few seasons ago for neglect.

5. "Too old" XD

What are yours?

Dillane's acting for sure. A lesser actor would have overplayed that scene, Dillane handled it just right. Shireen's actress was also very good, as usual.

Daario and Dany smugly looking at each other while mocking Hizdahr....then being proven completely wrong got a huge chuckle out of me :owned:

Alliser Thorne opening the gate for Jon and the Wildlings...I'm starting to think maybe he won't actually take part in the stabbing next episode. That would be a pleasant shocker, Thorne staying loyal to the LC even though he disagrees with him.

Davos saying goodbye to Shireen :crying:

He is super close to her in the show... I can't imagine he will stay loyal to Stannis after he hears what has been done. The Bromance is over I fear :bawl:

1. Davos and Shireen. So much chemistry--the father she should have had.

2. The Shireen burning scene, despite my anger at it, was well done.

3. Selyse. Excellent acting.

4. Arya's sequence. Gritty, scary, disturbing. There was intrigue and mystery and Maisie is a ridiculously talented young actor.

Man, that scene with Shireen was really well done. The whole time I kept thinking he's not going through with this. Then Salyse breaks and the close up of Stannis face made me realize he's doing what he thinks he needs to do and he fucking hates it. He's nothing like Mel who enjoys it.

The pit scene was terrific. The show made it look like Drogon flew in to save Dany, which I really like. It really builds up the bond between the two of them. The way he flew out of the arena made it seem like he'd been waiting for her to climb onto him for a while now.

Edit: While I fully admit Dorne has been the weakest aspect of this season, I actually liked what happened their this episode. Trystane to Kings Landing is very intriguing to me.

The acting was good, as usual. Well, except Clarke's. Thorne's actor in particular sold it, even if his one scene was stupid. I also liked how the Unsullied and dragon were getting their asses kicked by a few dozen dudes with knives. Nicely shows how delusional and in over her head Dany is.

Dragon riding!!!

Jorah, Jorah, Jorah! That misery, hope, resignation and energy in his face. Kudos to the actor. Jorah may be a somewhat clumsy fighter but he is oh so determined.

Tyrion being the only adult man among boys

Tyrion going badass and saving Missandei, the outstretched hand just like when he protected Sansa.

Tyrion's face when Dany flew away

Good bye Kerry Ingram, you were great!

Fire behind the stag

Selyse not being totally onedimensional

Stannis the madman

Dany and Missandei's Thelma and Louise moment

I liked Tyene and Obara here

Since nitpicking implies pointing out rather minor things, I'll only go with that:

- The lighting in the brothel scene was fantastic. So grim and shadowy, really added to an uneasy atmosphere.

- I liked how even the Lannister men-at-arms were giving Trant some looks like "bro wtf" when he was wanting a young girl. Adds a tiny bit of moral ambiguity and humanity to the scene.

- I hate the Sand Snakes with a passion, but I honestly laughed out loud when Nym called Tyene a slut.

The scene in the brothel was very well done. I was also going to comment on the Lannister men-at-arms (why aren't there Tyrell men-at arms though?) with their "what the hell dude" looks. Good scene.

Drogon. Looked like they set some stunt guys on fire for some of the full body burn stuff. Props if it was that, bigger props if they CGIed it because if so totally fooled.

All of the fighting pit really. Espeically Tyrion's line, "I've always thought there was enough death in the world. I don't want to see it in my leisure time." Everybody was terrific in that. Good fight choreography not to terribly ruined by the shaky-cam crap everybody wants to shoot and edit fight scenes with.

Bronn, "Am I going to be happy at the end of this walk?"

Wall was okay.

Shireen. Wow. But felt like something missing between her talking to Stannis and her walking to the pyre.

Drogon stole the show though.
