I know, I agree :(

They are very cathartic for me and I get seriously sad when they shut down. They usually only last for a day or two :(

I really wish they would just leave us to our own devices in there unless it gets really crazy and full of trolls, because I think we members do a good job of policing it. We're quick to shut down off topic discussions (or at least, it goes right back on topic soon enough) and trolls. Even if we're not directly talking about the episode, we are enjoying the company of other like-minded individuals while discussing the show as a whole and the show in regards to the books in a respectful manner.

There's literally no other place on the internet or in real life where I can do that.

And I wish the last three seasons (especially this episode) didn't happen either!

Yeah for some reason they are being locked which to me is a bit too much IMO. Let us have a space to criticize the show IMO because we do need it and I have issues with the show and criticism for people who apologize for the show not realizing the show has broken the rule of fantasy in general and that is complelty saying F the past we don't care about Roberts Rebellion even though many characters of the books who are main characters in the show remember everything from that war and its importance. War of the Usurper is important has well has the Blackfyre Rebellions because who the hell knew who Bloodraven was when they saw that episode without a hint? I mean at least you could have given us vision of Bran seeing a young Brynden Rivers shooting his arrows at Daemon Blackfyre in the Redgrass Field.

This is exactly why the rant threads should not be closed. Because all that does is make the rants spill onto the other threads.

So what I don't get about the whole Balon issue is...since he is alive, don't you think we would hear more about him and his attempts to claim the throne still? It's like, he's alive but also doesn't really care anymore after mid-Season 4 about fighting for the throne? Couldn't we have gotten something to say he doesn't care and has given up in the show or even better that he has died (preferably hearing this news last season around the stupid Asha rescue mission)?

So Balon won the War of the 5 Kings (yay) but he doesn't give a shit that he won? He just stopped giving a shit about the Iron Throne? Couldn't we have gotten something about this, even just a mention?

Okay, thanks for the clarification - it's just annoying to see them routinely closed, because they are the best threads on the forum, where we can finally let loose about all the utter idiocy that goes down in the show. Feels like a bad dream by now. Can somebody pinch me and tell me the last three seasons didn't happen? :(

I think it might be worthwhile if we start a topic about the show as a whole over on the General forum. That way there would be less risk of going off-topic because the thread would be centered around the show as a whole rather than just the individual episodes.

It might also be better if we have the threads locked when they hit 400 replies and start a new one.

Good idea, should I start one?

To be fair, Balon wanted independence from the Iron Throne, not the Iron Throne itself. But yes, the silence surrounding him and the Riverlands is rather annoying. They could just drop us a line or two to indicate what exactly is going on.

Sorry, that's what I meant, thanks for the clarification :)

It should read: we should hear it mentioned he is no longer fighting against the IT or that he is dead.

Both of those suggestions are great - I find myself getting so far behind on those huge threads, and by the time I've caught up, there are already another ten pages. Guess we had a lot to rant about this season! :D

Agreed. They could have silenced a lot of criticism about them forgetting the Riverlands if they had just given us a line like 'the Blackfish made it back to Riverrun before the Freys. He's holding it in the Stark name; the Freys have laid siege.' Sieges take a long time, so that would have done fine for a year or two at least.

Unfortunately in episode 3.10, Roose makes it quite clear that Walder Frey has complete control over Riverrun. But they could have just mentioned the Blackfish was missing and Edmure Tully and assorted river lords were Walder's prisoners at the Twins, explaining why the Riverlands weren't restive at the time? But it seems like out of sight out of mind, both with characters and regions of Westeros!

Same :)

Well guys, I made one so keep an eye out over there for it to hopefully pop up :)

Yup, exactly. It doesn't cost anything extra and it doesn't take up much time to have one or two small conversations to fill us in.

Yeah even one or two throwaway lines that reference them would be better than what we got :dunno: out of sight out of mind is definitely one of the main mottos.

I was reminded of this during Tyrion's conversation with Dany, where they are discussing which Great Houses might support her. He only mentioned 4. They could have mentioned the others, especially seeing how the Greyjoys, Arryns and Martells all look to be a big part of season 6. Just something like 'The Greyjoys want independence; you'll have to subjugate them as Aegon once did. The Tullys are either dead, captured or missing; the Freys rule the Riverlands now and they're the most hated family in Westeros. Destroy them and the Riverlands will flock to your banner. The Martells are still angry over the deaths of Elia and her children, and now Oberyn Martell lies dead as well. They may well support you, though the heir to Dorne is betrothed to my niece Myrcella. The Gods only know what the Arryns will do.' How much screentime would that have required?

Being the one who started the last version of the thread, I did even throw in the idea in the OP that with it being the last episode of the season, that the Ranting and Raving should and could include discussion of total season, and hell, total product.

I do get the rules for length, etc., but I can't remember if.....the General GOT section has the wait for moderator approval on threads as well. If so, we'd still be in the same boat. I know many different forums do have differing preferences and rules for length of thread. I noticed that this one seemed to go with the 20 page rule, I know some go with the 200 page rule. I suppose it's about the server or programming, I wonder if this place started with a 20 page cutoff........but perhaps the 'forum programming' can handle more now? :dunno:

ETA: I belonged to one forum, another fandom, that had an auto cutoff and it would take effect and restart the thread after a few pages would disappear in internet limbo, LOL That was confusing.

See, that would have been the perfect opportunity.

Also, I would have liked Cersei and/or Margaery spending a little less time catfighting and more time maybe grooming Tommen for rule and advising him (along with his small council). That would have been another really great time, a la Cersei with Joffrey in season 1 (the everyone who is not us is our enemy talk).

Well I made a thread, so we shall see if they approve it :dunno: Keep an eye out! We can request them to close it/open a new one when it gets too long or ask them how long they prefer the threads to be.

Hi you ranters out there! Back after a longish absence on the grounds of RL and couldn't help noticing you fiendish lot have burnt through two whole threads since Sunday eve! Wow, that's some serious dedication! I feel ashamed I couldn't keep up with you :( Here's hoping we get our little circle of hell back on-line soon!

Meanwhile, the general thread will have to do, so here is 'The Batfinger Evil-Gloating Special':

Yay you're back!! Awesome evil-gloating special, as usual. Keep an eye on the general GoT forum too, or maybe we will get another one here :)

Thanks! And I will. I'm all for a season 5 rant and rave thread during the hiatus. We're hardly a negligible minority anymore, so I'm hoping that won't be an issue. Just tell me where I sign up :)

Oh come on, Larry had a plot to slay this season, he could hardly be in two places at the same time, and Porne was a pleasure to watch from start to finish, so I understand their committing the Riverlands to the ether, but don't worry, next season's prologue will definitely feature the Blackfish zipping up his fly...

At the end of the day I think the story is about the ice god versus the fire god, and they are manipulating/using the people to battle each other and take over. I personally think the fire god will win out in the end. I also think that Bran took over ghost when he saved Sam and that he will take over one or all of the dragons. Also think that HBO will do a prequel to game of thrones after this and it will be about young Ned, Littlefinger, the mad king etc, which would be pretty cool!
