Welcome, @Nolan Clegane, ...

believe R+L=J. I fully support the Others as the good guys, at least not purely evil. And above all else DESPISE Daenerys Targaryen a thousand times over!

... happy to have you here. And welcome to R+L=J ;-) Understanding the others love their children, too, is quite a good call. But then, especially as a father, there's no reason to hate a fourteen-year-old for trying to find her way in a warring world, or is there?

Have fun with the forum!

Wilkommen @Desmond Hightower!

I see we walked a similar path into fantasy:

... Unfortunately, someone's online comment on the TV series had already spoiled the R+L=J theory for me before I started reading, but it turned out not to be a huge spoiler - I think it becomes fairly obvious fairly quickly while you read Eddard's chapters from the first book.

Actually, no, most unspoiled readers (including myself) do not pick it up on their first read. While reading the ACoK prologue and later Davos I, my unconscious started knocking on my sober mind's doors and telling me to go back and look what it actually was that oh so troubled Ned's poor soul. And to be honest, after nearly 2 years researching what would have happened during Robert's rebellion, at the Trident and in king Aerys II's court and at the Tower of Joy, even more and more darkness spills out. We will probably read GRRM spell it out in the upcoming book.

What type of dancing do you do? Lindy hop, is it?

I keep answering that question with everything short of classical ballet and oriental/bellydance (and would definitely do that too, given the opportunity).

Why? I am hard pressed keeping track of all the dances I do. On a very regular basis (two nights a week) I dance the 10 international competitive standard and latin dances: Slow waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, quickstep, slowfox(foxtrot), samba, chachachà, rumba, pasodoble, jive. But I don't actually compete: I dance for my partner's and my own enjoyment. Ocasionally I dance Sevillanas and some flamenco, lindy hop and other jazz/swing dances, salsa and Cuban rueda de casino, bachata if there's no other music in the house, Argentine tango de salón, and a few European folk dances. I used to do even more, and also used to teach the 10 dances and lindy hop and present on stage or in formation dances, but then the kids required me to stay home most nights. Some say I am a true dance enthusiast.

Wow, I was expecting you to say one particular type of dancing, I'm amazed and slightly envious at all that dancing you do! Apologies if I asked a much asked question, I hadn't seen your answer(s) to the question anywhere else on here. There are so many kinds of dancing I'd like to learn.

Willkommen!

Thank you!

Welcome to Westeros!

Many of us got hooked on the TV show first - I saw two episodes then started the books. The show has not seemed very good to me ever since. I can barely watch it now, but I keep rereading the series.

I still like the show. Of course, reading the books is the only way to get the "full" Westeros experience. But I think the show is pretty good in its own right.

Yes, I think you have a point there: if you already know the spoiler (as I unfortunately did), some of the clues seem more "obvious" than they might have been otherwise. All I can say is that, in hindsight, the Eddard chapters from AGoT drop some pretty heavy hints!

Hey hey-

Name's John, from the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania (hence the moniker). Been a huge fan of GOT since S01E01, and began reading ASOIAF post season 3. Definitely never read anything so fast before. Wrapped up all the books plus the Dunk/Egg and Greens/Blacks short stories a couple months later. I'm on a bunch of other forums, also as Philpenn, concerning art and music. Say whats up if you happen to see me on one of them. Cheers.

Hello everyone!

i started reading ASOIAF around 2005, but i was just a casual reader. But I just started rereading books and now I’m all in :)

I struggle a bit with writing in english, so I hope you are not too strict with grammar here :blushing:

Um.. you forgot a period at the end of your sentence. That could be considered a death sentence here. Just joking! Welcome to the board.
