Please allow me to introduce myself. Its been a long time since I was a participant in a forum so I thought I would dip my dainty toes in this one. I literally just got round to watching HBO's Game of Thrones on Blu ray ( very cheap now from Online sources or CeX) I went through season one and two in two days! I honestly didnt think it would be that good.. Now im hooked. There are a few times when I had to stifle a groan, but I have been into Sci fi and fantasy Books and Movies Since I was a child.

My late father had Jules Verne, HG Wells et al on the family bookshelf. My own golden reading period was reading through Micheal Moorcock's Eternal Champion series which I discovered as a young teen in the mid seventies. ( Que Hawkwind lps Coloured lightbulbs and Sandalwood Incence!)

Ill give it a go here, Ill try to avoid controversy and long dull posts .

PS Death ti thi Saath!

Salutations, friends! :D

I simply wanted to drop in here to say "hello."

I started reading A Song of Ice and Fire approximately eighteen years ago; I immediately fell in love with the series and the universe. I have since greatly enjoyed discussing the plot and characters, analyzing the works' profundity, assessing fan theories, and even propounding some hypotheses of my own. I have reread the main series a couple of times and hope to explore it further, and I am also conversant with the accompanying histories and other works, although I have not perused them as religiously -- yet.

This is perhaps a bit irrelevant, but I do want to assert that I love each of the published books in the main series, and that I can appreciate and am able to empathize with most characters -- particularly when their introspection and other benefits of a Point of View are available.

I must here admit that I had qualms about HBO's television adaptation Game of Thrones since the beginning: although I understand the difficulties of adaptation and allow that a TV show could never hope to exhibit as much perspicacity, significance, and detail as a book series could, there were certain failures of thematic translation and other questionable choices that raised flags for me. Having said that, I appreciated the unique quality of the early adaptation. As such, I was an eager fan of the first four seasons despite my relatively few objections, but am -- rightfully, I must humbly submit -- nothing but critical of the latter half of the show, which deserves absolutely none of the acclaim and accolades it has received, particularly in light of how the popular reception compares to the actual good part of the series.

I did previously have an account here, long ago. However, as I can recall neither its credentials nor the associated email, and because I have not been affiliated with the community with a long time, I am essentially writing this brief introduction as a new member.

Valar dohaeris; I look forward to conversing with you all regarding matters of all sorts, insomuch as I am able.

Take care, all!

Hello, I'm stillshimpy.  A while ago, a long time ago now, I was one of the first members of the Unsullied group on TWoP, eventually I ended up reading the books, and some fans of the show read my reactions...because frankly, I'm just one of those people, lots of big, wordy reactions.

What can I say?  Y'all were between books at the time, it gave folks something to do.  Plus, I can swear pretty inventively when surprised, so that helped pass the time.

Anyway, the reason I came here is...and I feel a little weird about it, to be honest...to mention that I actually started a channel on YouTube called Cronecast AtTheRisingMoon ...because I'm a tarot card reader.

I know, nothing to do with Game of Thrones, but I'm just putting that information here because we actually all had a lot of fun.  The readers were known as Bookwalkers, it was a whole thing.

Just in case anyone remembers me and might like to check that out.  You're still between books, I thought if any of my bookwalking friends were still around, they might enjoy it.  Or not, no pressure.  It was just mentioned to me elsewhere, and like I said, I feel super duper awkward saying anything but ...the world sort of sucks, I'm almost relentlessly positive in a snarky way.

Okay, admins if you let this shameless self-promotion stand, thank you so much!

Grog!

Welcome Noobs!

Sorry I have not welcomed some of you sooner (I'm not an officially designated greeter - I just do this for fun.).

There's a ton of stuff on Westeros to enjoy and I hope you're zooming around and checking things out.

I hang out almost exclusively in games forum, here: https://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php?/forum/18-forum-games/

I'm starting a word game called acrophobia that I welcome you to check out if you're so inclined. We also have fantasy football and even a pictionary game from time to time.

Enjoy!

Hello,

I have read this forum for many years and seemingly never felt the need for an account, just enjoying reading theories etc. But I just got seemingly spoiled on Twitter about the end of the GoT show, after miraculously avoiding it the past 6 years since I'm still on season 4. Yeah I did not want to spoil the upcoming volume of ASOIAF since I read the first 5. I know GRRM said that after season 4 the show is different than the novels, but I'm sure sill it contains probably half the content of the upcoming novels so that's how I decided to not watch the show further, to the great dismay of my family and friends :).

So yeah I miraculously avoided that (by staying mostly in the Novels section of the foum, ok) but yeah tonight I let my guard down and probably got spoiled, so it immediately rang a bell somehow that "hey, I have stuff to edit on the ASOIAF Wiki since over a year and a half ago, and I even created an account here for it for that", but actually due to IRL stuff and some posting requirements to be an editor, I never ened up doing it. Now though, I have more time, so here I am!

Welcome! And congrats on your willpower. It never occurred to me to stop at season 4 of GOT because of book spoilers - and I frankly, don't mind spoilers. If I did have a problem with spoilers I'd be in trouble.

So you're here to work on the wiki? Thanks! I really enjoy having it - thank you to all who have labored to make it.

To be honest I never thought I'd have to wait that long, in 2014 I believed GRRM when he said the book was coming soon :D, so it didn't seem like a big deal back then. After that, once I had a one season delay it was much easier to distance myslef from the show.

Hello. My name is Alex from NJ
I just started my first re-read of the series, and after spending some time on these boards, it really amazes me how much insight the collective readers from these boards have in all the details.

I'm not sure how much I will post though because I am horribly indecisive.

Regards, onplanners

Hi, everyone - my name is Margaret, and I'm from Ireland.

I'm currently re-reading ASOIAF. At the moment I'm just over half-way through 'A Clash of Kings', but it's been so long since I last read ASOIAF that I almost completely forgot how much I once loved these books. I'm now on something of a book binge - listening to podcasts, reading fan theories, and delving into forums like this - all so that I can find every detail from the book series.

In my day-to-day life, I am a student medievalist. I'm currently a PhD student, specializing in medieval Ireland. Reading fantasy literature, such as ASOIAF, is something that takes my mind of the ever growing pile of work on my desk that needs to be done. However, I also like to read about the parallels between fantasy literature and the real-life events (usually medieval, but not always) that inspired it.

So, while I wait patiently for TWOW to be released, I'm glad that I found these forums! It's great to read everyone's take on the ASOIAF series. I hope to see you all around.

Something upsets me at the moment, and it is that I am trying to quit smoking cigarettes. I can't seem to find the stamina to stay quit. Trying two times before, I did that for about 5 months, then a year and a month or so.

Hey, I'm Kinola. I've been trying to look for an intro thread since joining this site, and I feel dumb not realizing it was here. :dunce:

I've been here since April, and I joined so I could show everyone a name game I created on another website.

So, I'm Elyse. She/They. Abrosexual lesbian. Soft butch.

Technically, I got into GOT several years ago when my mom started watching the show during her recovery from cancer. I wanted to not sound like a total moron when she'd talk about it - but I never made it past the first season (or book, for that matter) cause somebody else basically talked me into giving up. Now, however, I'm giving it the chance it deserves (and I will not be making the same mistake I made last time by telling that friend).

Things I like in general include Jane Lynch, reading, writing, gaming, drawing, coffee, musicals, and cats.

Hi, I've watched the tv series and read through the books some years ago, but recently it occurred to me that I had forgotten so much. Now I'm doing a slow reread and really analyzing every chapter as I go to really get the full in depth experience.

Hi everyone. Just popped back in after quite a long time away.

I'm a long time (Antediluvian!) fan from Michigan, USA right across the water from Canada. I played in the BoD MUSH for a bit about 13-14 years ago and made some friends there, as well as on the forum, all of whom I've completely lost track of. It's great to see so many names and 'faces' still active, and I'm looking forward to dropping back in to the conversations. :)

Hello all. I am not yet so new here. I've been scouring and waiting to say something. This isn't even my first account. I choose the name 'losers reject' because in high school, I literally had no (zero) friends or people I hung out with. I think I was shunned. BUT all is well in today's day in age and I am now 30 years old.

I hope to conduct myself with some sense and sometimes some non-sense (but mostly to try with some good sense). I hope I can provide some sound and decent input.

@twigs@DavidRobey@iSpy@Brandon Stark (also, holy shit, I remember the last one that I just tagged from way back when).

I think I'll make a post soon introducing myself, but it's good to read everyone's introduction post here.

I've been a fan of the series since 2008 or so.

Hope you all are doing well.

Wassup dawg. Suspense is killing me
