Jussi
https://www.reddit.com/r/Stormlight_Archive/comments/6hfek7/oathbringer_spoilers_stormlight_three_update_8/ Quote I'm extremely pleased with the final draft, which I managed to cut to 450k words. That meant trimming about 64k off of it--roughly 12.5%. These are mostly line edits, with only a few small scenes being cut out. I improved pacing, and even added a few small sections to smooth out certain plot lines. Fans tend to hate the idea of cutting--but trust me, this version reads far better. I did make sure to keep anything substantive I cut so you can see it later as deleted scenes. We're still planning a November 14th release in the US. Edelweiss says now 1104 pages: http://edelweiss.abovethetreeline.com/ProductDetailPage.aspx?sku=076532637X
baxus
@Jussi Thanks for these great news. It really made my day! EDIT: Sometimes my fingers work too fast on the keyboard for my own good. Just to point out, I'm not being sarcastic or anything like that. I'm really looking forward to the book. I know that Sanderson had planned to have the Stormlight #3 released at end of this year, but it's great to hear there should be no delays. sperry
Awesome. First genre release I've had to read since the final Abraham book came out like 18 months ago. I thought we'd see an uptick in quality epic fantasy being published due to the mainstream popularity of ASOIF, but just hasn't seemed to be the case. There's a consistent flow of great fantasy books being released. Maybe you're drawing a distinction between 'epic fantasy' and 'fantasy', though. brunhilda
Damnit Sanderson, always promising us book 3 and then never delivering it, all the while hanging out with Broadway stars, livestreaming video gaming, and "designing" swords and 10th anniversary editions. Oh wait. I'd still like Rithmatist #2 given that the Sandersonbot is likely to put out several books this year...

Corvinus85
He's also written a novella in the Stormlight verse. I think it was released recently.

Darth Richard II
Yes, I know he writes fast, but I thought Stormlight 3 was the only novel slated for release this year.

Jussi
https://www.reddit.com/r/brandonsanderson/comments/6lpkog/no_spoilers_apocalypse_guard_first_draft_has/dkckh07/ Current Plan (though these things get shaken up) is as follows: Do the Apocalypse Guard Trilogy this year, moving into next year, with a novella between each book to take a break. That could take me up to roughly a year. Do W&W 4, Rithmatist 2, and the final Legion story over the next year. That will wrap up W&W and Legion, maybe Rithmatist, depending if I want two or three books. With my slate clean, I dive into Stormlight 4, write something bizarre and unplanned in-between, then go right into Stormlight 5 rounding out the first Stormlight sequence. But, as I said, these plans tend to shift a lot as I work on different books.
TheRevanchist
If we get Stormlight 4 within 2020, and Stormlight 5 within 2023, it would be awesome.
Jussi
https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/6ozdj0/i_just_read_the_name_of_the_wind_by_patrick/dklmrvw/ Yeah, Words of Radiance was spring 2014, incredibly. Oathbringer would have been out last year, instead of this year, but the story went long. First draft was 520k words, compared to 300k words for TWoK and 400k words for BoM. However, in revisions, I buckled down and did some serious pruning for the good of the book--so Oathbringer is somewhere around 450k words now, going into final proofreads. November 14th drop date in the US. More and more, I'm certain I can't do these every two years, as I had originally hoped. They are to intricate, and I need to take a break from the world to let things simmer and brew between books. But we'll see.
