Why Did Viserys 1 Choose Rhaenyra ?

Rhaenyra wasn't mad, she may have become overly suspicious and paranoid. And she may have made one or two stupid decisions, but she was never insane. And neither is Cersei now. She is afraid - and rightly so, because pretty much everyone is actually plotting against her - and thus cannot think straight. But she is neither mad nor stupid. Just obsessed and afraid of the wrong people.

Rhaenyra is very different from Cersei or any ordinary woman. Her sex life is proactive, like that of a male heir. She takes what she wants and has affairs like a male (or a Dornish heir like Arianne) would. She also does not have to steep as low as 'a chaste and honorable woman' like Alicent - who very much is a more competent version of Cersei. Perhaps also a better person. Alicent isn't the root of all evil. Her father Otto, and Hightower ambition to marry into the Targaryen dynasty is. This project goes back to the Conquest.

First Manfred Hightower wanted Aegon to take his maiden daughter as a third wife. He was turned down. Then Ceryse Hightower was married to Maegor which didn't work out well, either. Perhaps she was actually groomed as potential wife for Prince Aenys, considering that she was that much older than young Maegor. Then finally comes Alicent, who is first thrown at the Old King, then at Viserys' apparent Heir Presumptive, unhappily married Prince Daemon, and then finally at King Viserys himself.

This is a pattern, not coincidence.

Regarding love life, i actually think that Rhaenyra was a good one. She seems like a faithful person, off course she was with Harwin but Laenor knew that and claimed that all of her kids are his. Once she was with Daemon there was no one else. So there were only 2 person in her life, Harwin and Daemon. All of them were based on love

Alicent was a social climber, no doubt about that. Daemon saw right through her and only took what he wanted and left her because he know what she was. Viserys on the other hand was a fool, he saw her as the nice good girl who took care of his sick grandpa, it helped that she was quite pretty and only after few years of marriage he saw what Alicent really was, desperate social climber who tried to push his daughter.

It's funny how 2 Hightower has been a consort but none of the Targaryen descendant have their blood. I wonder how Alicent's reaction was like when she was told that Jaehara had committed suicide
