I only listen to one podcast. Yours. I don't live that exciting a life. I suppose I am extremely monogamous also.

I’ve recently started listening to another myths/legends/folklore podcast called Spirits (https://spiritspodcast.com/) which mixes alcohol and discussion of various myths and legends. Its pretty fun

Podcasts I recent-ish discovered, and don't remember if I mentioned here.

Strong Songs enthusiastically analysing songs. 

Pratchat going on a random walk through Pratchett's works.

Desert Island Discworld interview with a guest, and a bit on a single discworld novel they like.

I finished all 10 episodes of the Fallofcivilizationspodcast - which were all great. If I could describe this podcast in one word it would be comprehensive. Not only is the research extensive, Paul M M Cooper's presented his own interpretation based on the latest research, and where theory clouds fact (which is often), he caveats the sources and offers supporting evidence from geology, meteorology, astronomy, agriculture and linguistics. He uses voice actors and the background music used is often from the subject era (often recreated & performed for the podcast). It's broadcast level quality, and really the ones he has added video to (4 so far) are basically documentaries.

I have a couple favourites, three actually. The Sumerians is the most popular by far (if you count by youtube viewcount), they're still so mysterious, and its easy to lose sight that their tenure as a civilization is greater than nearly all other civilizations combined. To hear reconstructed music composed millenia ago, played on reconstructed instruments is haunting.   

Easter Island - Where Giants Walked changed my view on several things I thought I understood. It is revealing in its detail - and at the end, when events have compounded, one is left angry and saddened. A hardworking people, exploited to near genocide - to hear the children singing an ancient work song at the very end is heartbreaking.     

The Aztecs, imho, its the best of the lot. And at 4 hours by far the longest - yet that time flies by. I'll definitely watch the video version when its uploaded. Having spent 2 months travelling through the lower half of Mexico, from Mexico City and then down to the Yucatan, visiting numerous museums and archaeological sites, there was not much here that I didn't aleady know, but the way Cooper structured his narrative was quite rewarding, and his interpretation of events was refreshing. Highly recommended.

Theda, I don't think I ever got around to giving feedback on your podcast. I've only listened to the first 3 or 4 - shortly after you had released them, and enjoyed them very much, thank you! You had only released the first 2 when I was travelling by rural bus to central Southern India. I was fortunate to have a window seat and to hear tales of the Mabinogion while landscapes of the vanquished Vijayanagar empire passed by was surprisingly surreal  , I look forward to catching up on the rest of your podcasts.

Oh wow - thanks for sharing! I’m glad I could briefly accompany you on such a journey  I wish I could say my podcast has changed much or gotten a lot better but it’s still much the same as it ever was, hehe. One day I’ll get better equipment but I plan on keeping this show going for awhile!

I stream all of my podcasts from Spotify. You should be able to download the app for free on the iTunes store, although I’m not sure how downloading your podcasts and listening offline works as I just use the free version and stream using my mobile data while out and about.

There are several options available for Simians of all branches. I use VLC media player as my one-stop shop rather than having several different programs for media consumption. It has a podcast subscriber/streaming feature which is simple, but works well. It works on my Windows 10 laptop, and there's also a mobile version which works on my Android phone and is the version I use most often to listen to podcasts on to & from work. There's also an iOS version available but I can't speak to how well that works. 

In the version I use on Windows 10, look for the podcast+ option down in the left had menu list. Add the podcast RSS link of your favoured podcast, and then when you click on that podcast in the sub-menu, the playlist will populate with all available epsiodes. If you want to download the episode for offline playback, right-click on the item and select Save, and then from the dialog box which opens, select Dump raw input.

@ithanos I also enjoyed The Fall Of Civilizations, and it is indeed comprehensive.  I’ve listened to the first four or five.  My only complaint is that the topic is ultimately so downbeat that spending 2+ hours on each subject eventually feels too gloomy, especially since the novelty of each civilization converges toward an unfortunately similar process of collapse.

@Triskele the standard podcast app for iOS works pretty well.

@Iskaral Pust Yes indeed. It is the Fall Of series, so picks at the bones of past grandeurs, meant to be enlightening but can never avoid the inevitable melancholy.

Walking the dogs, shopping, and mucking out a stall. 

I use Spotify, as well, for podcast listening. I'll download a regular set at home. Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, Three Questions with Andy Richter, The Weeds, Rational Security, Lawfare are the main ones I listen too regularly. After watching and loving Community, I've added The Darkest Timeline (Ken Jeong and Joel McHale's video/podcast) and am trying Comedy Bang Bang as it regularly has Gillian Jacob. Her second appearance alongside Jermaine "The Gentle Giant" Johnsob, controversial American Idol contestant expelled for outstanding warrants related to alleged crimes possibly related to what was in the drinking water that led to his gigantism (FYI, he finds the term offensive) was hilarious.

Chores! Most of my podcast listening is done whilst cooking, washing dishes, sweeping, mopping etc - this is especially true during the lockdown. But a lot of it also during commuting. I also like going for walks a lot, so sometimes I'll save up a particular podcast for a walk ( Though I realize now that by 'where' you may have meant apps )

Also, does anyone have recommendations for podcast apps for android phones? It's hard to find a good podcast app for android, the one I used to use had a terrible UI update and I want to switch to something else ( Also, don't want to use spotify)

Again going to say Spotify, works fine for the number if Podcasts I listen to, easy to use, works fine on my phone which is Android. I do stream rather than download but still works well. Its less annoying than listening to music on Spotify as you only have the ad breaks already built into the podcast so no interruption really. 

As for where I listen - on my daily walks, usually. Like you i save specific podcasts for my walks because i want to pay closer attention, so don’t want to have to focus on two things at once. With WFH at the moment and being along in my flat all of the time, i have podcasts playing pretty much all day as background noise as i feel less lonely...

Hmm. See, the thing with spotify is the constant connection you need to the internet/4G and for me that's not always reliable, especially if I'm traveling on a plane or traveling in general. To ensure there are no interruptions, I usually download almost all of my podcasts, which is why I was hoping for a decent app that lets me do that. I was using Google Podcasts for my android phone, but the interface that they changed to is not great. I suppose I could download on spotify but eh, their podcast menus aren't great, imo, especially as I listen to quite a few podcasts - around 9.

I use Podcast Addict, works pretty good, you can download the episodes so you dont need to have an internet conection, and they have a very complete selection of podcasts.

Driving, which I'm doing so much less of these days.  When the casino reopens and I start driving an hour each way when I feel like playing poker, I'll get more listening in.

I don't remember who recommended Podcast Republic as an android app for podcasts, it works well enough.

As far as what I listen to, my top listens these days are Gambling with an Edge and the Fantasy Footballers (more so in season).  Whenever Dan Carlin drops something new that goes right to the top, but not exactly regularly scheduled.  Though since the Fantasy Footballers are very time specific and put out multiple episodes a week, sometimes in season I watch them on my second screen on youtube while firing up a video game.

I also enjoy Theda's podcast and Peadar's Creepycast, of course.  And been working on History of Westeros too.

Did the whole History of Rome by Mike Duncan and am working through The History of Byzantium slowly, as a bit of a fill in when there's nothing fresh that tickles my fancy.

When I am doing more driving, I'll fill in the rest of the time with Malcolm Gladwell, Thinking Poker, the One Outer (another poker podcast), the Phinsider podcast (Miami Dolphins), Eat Sleep Fantasy, and Skeptics Guide to the Universe. 

I should probably listen to more financial/investing podcasts.  Any recs there?

Not sure whether people tend to differentiate between podcasts and audio dramas, but this shows up under the podcasts app of Spotify so...

Anyway, i’ve been binge listening to The Bright Sessions. As with most things I’m several years late to the party but absolutely loving it. The premise is that you are listening to recordings of therapy sessions of Atypicals - people who have special abilities, be it time travel, ability to read thoughts, ability to read emotions, etc. There is also an overarching plot running sort of...behind the therapy sessions i guess, and this is gradually teased out. I am absolutely hooked on it right now, so interesting. I enjoy the Caleb episodes the most.  The plot running through it all is great, but honestly its the exploration of the mental toll having these kinds of powers would have on a person that really gets me with this. 

I also love building my image of these people based purely on how they sound.

As I said, I’m several years late (I think it began in 2016?) but I certainly recommend

I've been trying to find a good podcast app since about when I stopped buying Apple products and couldn't use iTunes anymore. I'm not sure of the state of iTunes today, but years ago when I was using it I still haven't found a smoother app. Right now I'm using Podcast Addict (I'm not sure how it works on Apple devices), and it's okay. It has some really strange design choices--and finding the function you want on an episode/podcast can be infuriating. I tried Spotify once, but back then it didn't let you add podcasts thru rss feeds. Maybe that's change now.

Oh, one I used to like was called Pocket Casts, I think. It was really easy to use and organize, but I found it super frustrating that you couldn't really download podcasts. It'd say they were downloaded, but when you hit dead zones (we have plenty around here), you couldn't listen to those episodes. I finally dropped it for Podcast Addict which actually downloads. 

Have you tried Stitcher? They're not bad.
