They announced season 2 casting a few days back and just like season 1,they have cast some big names.

Quote

With principal photography now underway in London, a host of new cast members have been added. They include Dennis Quaid, Parminder Nagra (The Blacklist), Michelle Fairley (Resurrection, Game Of Thrones), Robert Sheehan (Misfits), and Ken Stott (The Missing).

The drama, created by Simon Donald, is set in the eponymous tight-knit community where things begin to unravel when a mysterious death threatens the town. A fresh murder will rock the locals in Season 2, plunging Fortitude into turmoil while nature grows even more unpredictable, deadly and dangerous.

Returning cast members include Sofie Gråbøl, Richard Dormer, Luke Treadaway, Darren Boyd, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Mia Jexen, Alexandra Moen, Verónica Echegui, Sienna Guillory and Ramon Tikaram.

As with the first, the second season will be simulcast across Sky’s European territories and on Pivot in the U.S. A late 2016 airdate is eyed.

Still very curious as to whether this can support a second season. I enjoyed the first one but it seems like it could be more of the same and wonder whether a murder mystery with parasite madness in the background will cut it. I'll be giving it a chance at least.

Can't complain about the cast at all.

So it's definitely still set in the same place (although it's being filmed in London)?

Part of me would love to see another parasitology themed mystery. There's plenty of choice for causative agents. But I think it might be a bit weird to do another... The description mentions nature growing more unpredictable so maybe it's not about a biological cause?

Season 2 premiere at 9pm tonight in the UK.

Immediately after the first episode ends at around 9pm on Thursday 26th January, the remaining nine instalments will be made available via the Sky Box Sets service. That means the majority of subscribers with a Sky+HD box and Sky Q will be able to watch it, as will those who use monthly on-demand service NOWTV.

that is awesome news, was planning on saving it up, but will binge the shit out of it (assuming it retains the quality).  Since the 3 big stars in season one all got brown bread, do we assume Dennis Quaid is for the chop as well?

Anyone been watching this series?

Got stuck binge watching it last night, up to ep. 6 so far and enjoying it.

The first series was full of all sorts of weirdness to make it feel a bit unnerving as you never quite knew which way it was going in, was it a supernatural story or a crime drama, or something more.

Spoiler

Series 2 seems to be going down the route of adding in some much bigger conspiracy and we're getting hints of some sort of historical event leading up to the present situation.
Something to do with Russian soldiers during WWII by the looks of things. from the very sparse info given out (which keeps you guessing as you have no idea really) i'm going to suggest something was either buried in the ice along with those wasps and has infected people.
Either that or the "weather station" mentioned was more that that and someone was doing experiments that got out of hand.
The fact the Russians seem so involved is a big sign something is up.
Plus whatever that creepy doctor is up to is a bit disturbing too.

Oh and I take my hat off to Richard Dormer for a wonderful display of unnerving craziness. I certainly wouldn't invite his character round for dinner!

You can watch all of it already? I thought that only ep1 had aired in the UK and it was going to be a weekly thing. I haven't checked though - too many other things to watch at the moment.

I'm not sure about on normal Sky, but on Now TV I have access to all S2 episodes right now.

The first season can be had from netflix's dvd service, though not on its streaming service (which is why I pay for both).  I watched all of it in some week last summer.  Probably a very hot week from last summer . . . .

I liked it well enough, but don't think it should have another season.  That one was sufficient.

HOLY LAME SHITTY SCIENCE AND LAZY GOOGLING, BATMAN.

I had to pause and wind it back last night to see if I had heard what Generic Female Scientist said correctly. But no, I heard it right - she said 'like sandflies and onchocerciasis'. But sandflies are the vector for leishmaniasis not oncho. Blackflies are the vector for oncho. They can spend all that money on producing the show but they can be bothered to get someone, anyone, to spend 5s googling the science they are putting into the dialogue?

Also, what type of scientist is she meant to be? She starts saying something about animal behaviour near the end? So she's a zoologist now? And also a clinician (specialising in infectious disease)? And also maybe what? A lab scientist/researcher in infectious disease? No one person is all of those things. It's just not realistic. A bit like their lab set up is a bit of a mish-mash. It looks ok to be a CAT3 lab... but the use of a Class III cabinet suggests they are doing CAT4 work... but then again people just wander around with a paper mask on their face, taking it off to talk OBVIOULSY, because talking is more important than biosafety. And could she put her fucking hair INTO her hairnet at all? If one doesn't contain your hair, then you wear two. Jesus.

You see how distracting this shit is? I can't even think about the rest of the stuff that happened in the episode.

Apart from amatuer police chick busily swabbing evidence and then taking a big swig out of a hipflask containing an unknown liquid. It could have been anything in there! A big part of me wanted her face to melt off because it contained sulphuric acid so this would serve as a lesson to everyone...

ETA: oh yes, you can watch all of it at once. not sure I feel like it now though

I'll probably wait until the end of the month. I've got a lot on the next couple of weeks and want to try and watch it during a NowTV trial period. Although I may be switching to their broadband soon anyhow in which case I don't need to tactically plan my tv/value ratio.
