Because up until I read Stannis is the manny....is' post I was completely oblivious to the fact that there were Manderlys present at the RW. I will admit that by the time the RW happened I was already "watching" the show while playing sudoku and Frotz. Still I can recall 3-4 times White Harbor has been name dropped, plus in the behind the scenes stuff they could mention Wendel was show canon

I'm sure they could have found some prosthetics to make a man fat or one-eyed. Or a story something like the one told by Mr. Martin. 5 minutes ago, Stannis is the man....nis said: True I mean it's not like they could of found a somewhat hefty actor like Robbie Coltrane and put him in a fat suit like people do for Falstaff Brendan Gleeson would have been awesome. He has the ability to appear likeable and warm with the vibe of a grandfather/Santa, but in the next scene can pierce you with a mean and meaningful look. I only wanted to emphasise that they could have done a bunch of stuff, but failed miserably. I think I'm not the only one who doesn't remember there was a Manderly present at the RW b/c he was more an extra than anything else. Even if I wasn't paying attention to it at all. I remember the Manderley too. I always look out for Manderleys. I kinda disagree I like Brendan Gleeson but just like Brian Blessed (who others also wanted as WM) something about him would just make me go "seriously Roose doesn't think this guy isn't going to try and kill him?" TepidHands
By the gods, we've gotten brothels in King's Landing, Mole's Town AND Volantis, plus we've seen Stokeworth, and you think we need WHITE HARBOR? Ingrates!

They couldn't find an actor with a missing eye to play Bloodraven, too. If they'd wanted those attributes for those characters, I'm pretty sure there are these things called F/X, no? Or else Nikolaj was totally fine with having someone cut off his right hand for the role. You make an excellent point about the complete lack of Daario's army of one. All of these things make the world seem small, confined and unrealistic, tbh. I recognize there are lot of things they *can't* do (like probably having White Harbor actually be onscreen) but then again, they seem to have money for brothel scenes and extras on two continents and the Wall. (Was it really necessary to have Gilly hang out in a brothel in Molestown in season 4? Like, ostensibly she'd get raped if she'd stayed with NW so ... the best place for her to go was somewhere where people assumed she was a whore?) I'd like to see the relative prices for a "fat extra to play Wyman Manderly at Sansa's wedding" versus "contortionist for that one scene in the brothel with Bronn." Karmarni
You know who would've made a good Manderly? GRRM, that's who - in his cameo appearance.

When they talk about it it is vast and incomprehensibly large, when travelling the world, Meereen is two streets down and a left, you really can't miss it. Roose told Rammers how extremely large the North is, but apparently when you travel in it, it gets really really small. So it truly is a reverse Tardis. And I was joking about the actors hah. So much budget wasted on stupid foam roots and skeletons, an eyepatch from the first aid kit in the car of one of the actors could have been used . God I hate those "creators". They made such a good job in the first seasons and now this shit. Made you love a series and actors and now make you abhor each and everyone connected to the franchise. I knew you were joking about the actors. But it really is kind of hilarious that they can't give Max von Sydow an eyepatch so he can have a thousand eyes and one, but they hired a lady contortionist so she could undo Bronn's trouser laces with her teeth. Interesting priorities! And if I am remembering correctly, Jorah and Tyrion rowed to Meereen from Volantis? That's ... quite the feat

JonSnow4President
To the Manderly thing, you don't even have to make him be that fat. We don't need a 500 pound man. John Bradley as Sam is a fine build for a Manderly. It's not the extreme of the books (nor is it for Sam), but it's not an insurmountable difference. Interesting priorities! Why even Sydow? He is alright, yes, but the first BR actor was better and "better equipped" still. Long hair and the outfit. The eye was the only real letdown. But Sydow doesn't AT ALL look like BR. They aren't even trying anymore. It is a shock that he hasn't got a cheap ugly beard like most male actors on this show. And the prostitute actresses are often well known porn actresses. "Dave, will you come to bed?" "Just a minute dear, I gotta finish searching for new cast members!" Which brings me to my most recent revelation about the rumored events of season 6. With the Umber/Karstark betrayal they are straight up subverting the Winterfell plot where it appears the Northern Lords are 'loyal' to the Boltons but will end up betraying them because of their loyalty to House Stark. Instead we are getting the exact opposite. Also removing Stannis early and avoiding the Alys Karstark subplot lets them cleanly do this, despite the fact it seems fairly clear from the books GRRM is trying to make the point being a scumbag oathbreaker catches up with you. They aren't paring plot points for story economy, they are doing to reshape the narrative to the advantage of their favorite characters. I'm pretty sure that's a good description of fan-fiction. Yep, I've been ranting for months including my own thread dedicated to it but when they decided to remove Stannis so early they ruined the North and the idea of "the North Remembers".
