[Spoilers] Criticize Without Repercussion

I wrote all my criticisms down here: http://gotgifsandmusings.tumblr.com/post/143377985832/got-6x01-musings

Porne was pushing past belief at how awful it was, but I thought Sansa and Arya's scenes were right up there. Both their characters just horribly undercut. It's never not painful.

The Game of Polls voting is heavily favoring Porne (no shock), but it shall be an interesting season, that's for sure. Vote here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1JuKKz5V4nIbyvGhg_YGLYTzB-2fHBqHNMT_AxEVrtYE/viewform?c=0&w=1

IF ELLARIA HAD THE GUARDS UNDER HER CONTROL HOW COULD SHE FAIL HER ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON LAST SEASON??????????????????????????????????????????????????

That was last season.

There's absolutely no connection between last season and this season.

Sansa should rightfully get pissy with Brienne over the murder of Stannis. Brienne killed Stannis in the North, which never swore fealty to Renly.

As rightful heir to the North, Stannis fate, was really for Sansa to decide and not Brienne.

But, you know, that's not going to get portrayed in this show.

Yep. No consequences. Revenge > Sansa. And Ned chose Stannis over Renly. Brienne should have told her everything. Get her somewhere safe, and then tell her the truth, including what happened with Arya and Sandor, because Arya rejected her, and wouldn't have run off if she hadn't killed Sandor, and then go from there.

(typo)

We're going books here, but Catelyn used the words she had heard NED (not her southron father).  So the point is that Sansa, who is specifically supposed to be skilled with courtesies/formalities, can't remember it.  Because she is dumb-as-a-sack-of-rocks in the show.

Exactly. The weren't southern words. Ned said them and Catelyn said them because she heard Ned say them many times:

Quote

“And I vow that you shall always have a place by my hearth and meat and mead at my table, and pledge to ask no service of you that might bring you into dishonor. I swear it by the old gods and the new. Arise.” As she clasped the other woman’s hands between her own, Catelyn could not help but smile. How many times did I watch Ned accept a man’s oath of service? She wondered what he would think if he could see her now.

I have a few questions that I still cannot theorize good answers to.

  1. How did Brienne know where Sansa and Theon were? I will make no mention of how she rode in on horseback to save the day in the knick of time.
  2. Where was Trystane when he was (hypocritically) killed?
    1. I know he was on a boat, but was it his own boat?
    2. Did he know the SS were on there with him? It didn't seem like it.
    3. If he did not know the SS were there, then how did they hide for a month (?) of sailing?
    4. Was he at or near Kings Landing when it happened?
    5. Is his body Cersei's problem now?

There are so many things that don't make sense or just seem to recycled from previous seasons that the premiere kinds, really bored me.

And the "women on top" show apologia is just so blatant and ridiculous. It feels worse than what they were doing before because it's either one extreme or the other.

Yeah they completely butchered the Dorne stuff, like to an astonishing degree. Literally nothing that was truly interesting or unique about that place or it's characters, is in this show (well besides Oberyn, he was still cool). And WOW did they do a number on Ellaria's character as well.

Oh and don't even get me started on Sansa's arc since last season. I could rage on that for hours. Oh and what a complete and utter waste of Alexander Siddig as well.

Oh and how the heck did the SS get onto the boat, they were still on the dock when it was leaving last season?  Are the teleporters or something?  And if they're magically back in Dorne next episode, I'm going to face-palm so hard.

I can't stop thinking that D&D just decided to ABORT Dorne after the bad repercussion of it last season. I can see Weiss and Benioff talking "yeah, i dont think dorne works on tv, i think we should just cut to the chase here, but how?" and then "well, let's just mae Ellaria go full-crazy and kill everyone. then she dies in the next episode, and we wont need to address this kingdom anymore".

this is so weak it is laughable.

I feel like we didn't mention this before. It was really nice of the show to give Kit Harrington a starring credit for playing a corpse. While it's probably some of the better work he's done, it's a tad excessive for a completely dead character.

They could have at least thrown in special guest star at the beginning of the end credits to throw people off.

Look I thought this was one of the worst episodes in the series history, but this is a bit much isn't it? Brienne and Sansa have been together for about 34 seconds.

I would have quite liked the Mel reveal if it had been structured to end on the creepy mirror image of her face without the necklace. It didn't need the extra shock value. The fact she has been shown without it before displays further evidence of their lack of forethought and consistency.

Do you think the show runners have heard the concept of 'less is more'?

Ha ha - who is worse written out of Rey and the Sandsnakes :) 1st world problems indeed. :D They rival each other from crapness and I have a genuine fear now that GoTs will end up as crap as the Star Wars franchise has become.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

They obviously didn't have time for Brienne and Sansa to talk.

They would have had to cut Ramsay lamenting over his dead girlfriend or removed some of the rape threats to Dany.

Yeah, no time for an actual scene. It's like she can't help her unless she formally takes her under her service on the spot, which is wrong. She was still in shock and in danger, no time, then wait until there's time.

That's not the sort of thing you rush into, and have to look to someone else and get a nod, and to another person and get the words. All of that could have waited, and been done in a thoughtful manner (or not at all).

Yeah, I mean seriously, for all she knows, Brienne is working for the Lannisters....like LF already accused her of, and only saved her out of personal greed to take her back to KL.  At least some kind of 5 minute convo would be in order to get it all straightened out.

But, the show doesn't care about that, they see things in scenes.  So, other than Sansa again being too stupid to live, it was a nice scene in and of itself.
