[SPOILERS EP.02] Any Hope Left For The Starks?

Recommended Posts

So basically when I saw the GoT Trailer #2 I saw wildlings and Northern banners going up against the Boltons. Having read the books and following general forum acceptance, I figured Jon was revived by this battle and had united the wildlings and some Northern houses to fight the Boltons. However, what I was NOT expecting was the commander of said Bolton force being Ramsay Snow. I was wondering how Jon would fare against cold, calulating Ruthless Roose.

Basically, my reason for posting, is how do you think Jon is gonna get Ramsay to slip up?

Also, keep in mind Roose's quote: "If you acquire a reputation as a mad dog you'll be treated as a mad dog. Taken out back and slaughtered for pig feed." And if you remember, Robb Stark called someone else a mad dog and had a game plan for him. Robb wanted to draw Gregor Clegane into the west so they could surround him because he had no strategic thought in his head. I feel it's no coincidence that they used the same word to describe Ramsay that they used to describe Gregor.

I'm not sure the show has the time or the inclination to really care about seeing Ramsay defeated both psychologically and strategically.

Best case scenario, I think you're looking at a generic battle with Ramsay killing an important character(or wolf)and then meeting Jon Snow head on, losing after a poorly choreographed sword fight.

I think there may be something to that.  I think it is pretty clear the Ramsey is just a ruthless man and doesn't think clearly nor strategically when it comes to being a commander or a lord.  The scene that you speak of with Roose talking of a mad dog, is most likely a foreshadowing in my opinion.  I mean its pretty obvious that Ramsey is not fit for his current position.

Sad but true!

It wouldn't really take all that much. Have Jon Snow lure Ramsay into a battlefield not of his choosing, have Ramsay's leal lords protest, does it cuz YOLO, then have the (insert allied force here) and rout them but Ramsay pushes forward to kill Jon Snow because at least he's got to take him out... Cuz ya know, just cuz.

This is what I think, plus we have Robb's battle plan of how he would deal with Ser Gregor, who was also a mad dog. I have a feeling they'll tie in the fact that Jon and Robb received the same commander training and presumably think alike.

Ramsay is a psychopath, and while the trope that serial killers want to be stopped is a myth, they do become more confident with their successes, increasing skills and growing power, and they start to take more risks. So, for example, a serial killer might start killing during the daytime, instead of at night. Guess we've already reached this point with Ramsay. Committing patricide and feeding your father's wife and your newborn baby brother to the dogs strikes me as somewhat incautious. Roose's warning wasn't really necessary for us, the audience -- we're seeing it with our own eyes.

Ramsay wants to kill Jon Snow, Sansa and Theon. That's probably just about all he lives for. He'll do something foolish to accomplish it, and it will be his undoing. He'll be oblivious to the risks he's taking, the enemies and dangers around him, because there's only enough room in his sick brain for the excitement and anticipation for the suffering and death he wants to inflict. He'll march blithely to his own ruin.

I completely agree that the battle plan will be to use the wilding army to draw Ramsey's forces into a ground conflict (the images of all the Bolton shields vs Tormond and the wildings)  Then Jon will hit their flank with Cavalry like the riders of Rohan at Helms Deep.  This is where we see the leaked image if Jon on horseback

"Our way is the old way.  If you would take a man's life, you owe it to him to look him in the eye and hear his last words."

He couldn't look Roose in the eye when he killed him.  Not A True Northerner. :)  The land and the people will reject him and his leadership.
