Yes you're right.  And Taylor Swift is a musical genius.

And in your mind you are listening to shostakovich in disdain, i suppose as the "masses" of 450 people who could be bothered to log on to a fan site follow their drivel.

Funny that you don't imagine you might be the one saying "its just noise and not a patch on the original " as the the masses listen to this new fangled rock and roll.

Self image... the lies we tell ourselves...

Sometimes.. probably most times... an outlier opinion is an outlier because its flawed....

And as stated previously, the people voting 1 don't really get that they're giving themselves away as trolls due to the rules of statistical distributions...

Please look up the definition of trolling. Hint: It has nothing to do with statistics.

The closest thing to trolling on this thread is the discussion on why people who give 1s or 10s are wrong.

You still don't know what a troll is, and your giving to much validity to an uncontrolled poll of, as you put it "masses" of 450 people. Your PhD in statistics is not going to win this argument.

Okay lets go another direction.  In my country the popular opinion is the best candidates for leader of the once-free-world are Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.  One is a narcissistic criminal and the other is a narcissistic criminal  According to you those that disagree with popular opinion are trolls.

making an exagerrated statement for the purposes of effect is  the very heart and soul of trolling.

and if a decreasing number of people rate from 7 (24 people) down to 2 (7 people) , which then jumps up to 27 people for 1 [when all statistical laws would say a  max of 7 should vote 1] . then those 20 are TROLLS.

There is a distinction between occasionally and always.

whatever gets you through the long wait for the next book where lots of people pretend to be other people.

I nearly forgot the related "baby switch/scarper/ under false identity" trope, which along with fAegon, also covers Dany, Jon and looking  increasingly likely Tyrion.

So that's 6 of the main and the 3 core  characters under false identity that "Days of our lives" might reject as unlikely. But like you say occasionally.....

And despite all this i like the books because of "willing suspension of disbelief".  Look it up.

Which statistical laws exactly?  A standard bell curve should have near equal values at the extreme ends with higher measures in the moderate values.  If one extreme end is substantially higher than the other, I would theorize that those on that disjointed extreme are the  trolls.

HODOR / 10

Good solid episode. The stories are really getting into gear now.
Arya has a mission but is being reminded of home.
Jon and Sansa are seeking support to take on Ramsey.
The Iron Islands have a new king and mission.
The Riverlands are back in Tully hands.

My only niggle is Littlefinger. No idea where that storyline is going.

thought you might take a sidestep.

do you understand the difference between assigning a numeric value judgement to something  (thereby allowing for statistical analysis) versus picking a discrete candidate?

If you want to take politics as an example however you will find that there is a bell curve of political opinion with the majority of people in the centre and a decreasing number as one heads to the extremes. This is mostly a good thing and a tribute to the common sense of people (mostly).

This is why primary candidates become more centrist in the general election; because otherwise they cannot win.

you have my sympathies regarding the choice in the US, but thats because of the silly primary system. Trump and Clinton are not the most popular politicians in the whole  America, there are a whole pile of people who would be ahead.

the statistical law that says that whatever distribution you have ( and it doesn't have to be normal or have a bell shape), the greater the number of standard deviations you move away from the mean, the lesser the expected number of observations.

In laymans terms. whether bell shape or otherwise, the slope of the distribution should be  downward.

7 observations at  27 observations at 2 has a probability of occurring in the hundreds of billions to 1.

Fantastic episode. Sadly there are still trolls here giving 1 out of 10. Stop watching if you don't like it that much. Best show on TV.

True, but it's the same people every week giving a 1. They could just go into next week's episode and give a score now, as it will be 1. They aren't scoring the episodes, they just don't like the show.

And considering that they have been giving episodes a 1 for several seasons now means that they have stuck around for some reason. They aren't being paid to watch the show (most of them, there may be some actual critics paid to watch). In which case they must be deriving some entertainment and enjoyment out of the show. Thus it is somewhat disingenuous to give every episode a 1.

A whole pile of people tried to be ahead but the Taylor Swift fans and 10 voters, through popularity contests chose them.  Regardless of numerical values or discrete candidates, the popular opinion is almost always wrong.  And statistics are generally not applicable to value judgements.
