Who is Standing Behind the Waif?

I think if it was Syrio, it would add some cohesion to Arya's story arc because right now it's difficult to pin down what's been going on the last few years. I doubt Martin will use it in the books but maybe the show will because I actually think it improves the story. Really wish Martin would still do it too.  Ties things up nicely. Explains why Jaq'en took an interest to Arya...  But maybe they have another explanation for this?

Yep I agree re Syrio. Id have no problem with him returning and having been Jaqen all along.

I've also never been a believer of Syrio returning I've always believed he was dead and gone. But I came across this picture as well and my first thought was "Holy fucking shit that's Syrio Forel". Btw the pic you atttached isn't opening on my computer (not sure about others) so i added a link to the pic in case someone needs to see it

Whether it's Syrio or not, whoever that is certainly looks ominous. Should be fun to see :D

Why did I immediately think of this guy as the silhouette?

That looks an awful lot like the blue boy that's been showing up around Arya this season...

That's interesting, I definitely never noticed him before you pointed this out to me. My first thought would be just he's an extra that kept getting recycled between various scenes, but that would be a bit sloppy for HBO. His outfit kinda looks like Syrio's... though given this is Braavos that might not mean much.

omg

what if it is? Sylvio = Waif?

no way.... too complicated, right?

*my head is seriously hurting (in a strangely good way) from all the possibilities!! I'm so excited about this storyline now.

That silhouette does really really look like Syrio, and the blue lad is definitely more than just a random extra. The whole scene was so full of bizarre details that I'm convinced that all was far from what it seemed. I hope with all the switching of identities it stays classy and next week's internet isn't full of Scooby Doo memes!

Maybe that's why she beats (umm, sorry, teaches) Arya with a stick.

It does look an awful lot like syrio. Actually, so much so that at first I googled to make sure it wasn't a photoshop job from a fan pulling some legs.

I have no problem believing it is Syrio. He played well in the datings and the shows writers have proven they are willing to play a shell game with stuff like plot and character development because good writing doesn't seem to matter. That said, ratings do matter and the show is watched and loved by a lot of people (just like pro wrestling).

My question is, if they bring him back will they explain how with half a stick he got away from 6 lannister house guards and a knight of the kingsguard wearing full plate? Probably not. He will probably explain it away by saying "awesome sauce" which will replace "valor morghulis" as the motto of the faceless men. Then he and arya will meet up with the hound who will be holding a chicken and making a thumbs up and run past gendry, ostensibly in his row boat bringing LF and the Knights of the Vale north to winterfell, they will all get on the boat and storm the double walls of winterfell....arya with needle, gendry leading the naval assault from row boat, syrio with a half a stick sword and the hound with a bunch of chickens. They will encounter Ramsey Bolton and 20, presumably shirtless, good men who will put up a good fight but will lose when Sansa and Lady Mormont sweet through an enemy line of pikemen using nothing but spunkiness and they will take winterfell.

From there the only sensible thing will be for Dany to show up with her Dragons and then the combined army will go to winterfell where clegane bowl will happen and the hound will win when the mountain slips on some chicken skin. For a while it will look like the gold cloaks and lannister army might actually win until the Ned-Less Horsemen leads an army of the undead with rob at his side and turns the tide of the victory. LSH shows up and makes out with Ned who is holding his own head so it is weird but then Qyburn sews it back on. At the end of the episode everyone is super happy.

I mean, from what I can tell by watching this season this is as realistic a plot as any for this episode.

im afraid you could be right. I was hoping theyd leave at least one "dead" character dead for once, instead of making it like LOST.

rewatching his death scene it sounds like he gets a hold of a sword and kills a bunch of guards. Still, he seemed like a much more minor character compared to the hound, I never thought the hound was dead, same with benjen.

Not just a bunch of guards but a kingsguard not that he doesn't kill. So what we are willing to say is that a half dozen Lannister guards and Ser Meryn Traunt are killed/evaded and Ser M in the next scene doesn't bother mentioning it or sending other guards. He what? Secretly burried the killed guards and hid the fact that syrio escaped from Cersei?

This is show has done nothing but depress and disappoint this season. Bringing back Syrio without a damn good explaination will just be the final straw.

you forgot the part where the scene opens with gendry rowing a boat then slowly zooms out to reveal theres a rope attached to a giant wooden raft thats holding 3000 vale knights and hes towing them to shore. he arrives just as arya, cereal forel, and jaqen hgarden do. Jon snow reunites with arya, then the hound randomly shows up wearing ungregors armor, we think its the mountain then he takes off his helmet and he says "bring me one of those chickens", jon snow passes him a blunt and the credits roll.

I forget nothing. See my comment above.

it just swould strike me as odd if, in the wake of the death of the King, the queen, small counsel and the captain of the gold cloaks conspired to bring down the Hand of the King, lord paramount of the north Ned Stark...a man from maybe the oldest noble house in westeros. In the process a knight of the kingsguard is sent with a detachment of Lannister soldiers to escort his youngest daughter and her "dancing master" who happens to be the former first sword of braavos to confinement. He wears full plate and brings guards. The girl escapes. The first sword of braavos gets away and no one wants to know where he went or even mentions it.

This is isn't even book v show. I am, for whatever reason, holding out a little faith here. I hope they don't make doodies on it

You really need to rewatch that scene because apparently you have no idea what actually happened in it. Meryn Trant let the guards try to take Syrio themselves and Syrio took out every one of them. When Arya ran, it was just Syrio and Trant in the room. As for telling  Cersei, why on earth would he tell anyone that a person they weren't looking for, and didn't care about whatsoever, a person who was only involved in any way because he haappened to be with Arya when they came for her, kicked his ass and evaded capture? Buried the killed guards? The tower of the hand was a blood bath at that point with dead Stark and Lannister guards  littering the floor.
