Is there a military solution to the WW doom?

Recommended Posts

Given the ineptness of NW in past centuries, there is little military solution available if the Wall's magic ghost fence fails. Lord Commander who got the New Gift from Targeryens failed miserably to use it to boost NW status and readiness.

The wights are not really concern. One strafing run by flying zippos would take care of a lot of them - they are incapable of anything once set on fire ever so slightly. Bolster the lizards by some nice jars of wildfire and you can have them coming up at the Wall all day long. What to do with Others? That is a more icky topic. Dragonglass is not really that plentiful that you can just make huge buckshots of it. Still... if you take care of wights, you have far less targets for the dragonglass.

Problem is, however, the simple sheer size of qwall and lack of resurces to garrison it. Winter is come: Too late to build up logistics that you would need to support full garrison of each castle.

John and the Northern alliance haven fought gallantly against insurmountable odds, and heavy loss's again find them selves surrounded by wrights with the NK and the Others watching the carnage off in the distance. Luckily Sansa has written a letter to Dany/Tyrion, who, out of nowhere swoops in with her forces (that to date have been fighting off in the South), to save the day. Dany's forces keep the Wrights busy, making easy work of them, and this frees Jon, Sam, and (name your random Northern characters here) to approach the NK King and the Others for an epic sword duel.

Alternatively...
The host of the undead draws in front of the Wall, the Night's King rides forth and shouts...

"Gentlemen, this is a terrible misunderstanding, I just want back the lawnmower I lent to Tormund! And while we are at it, can he be less loud on Friday evenings?"

In any case the most likely solution will be magic, not military. Military showdown will be there jsut to drive home the hopelessness, like the final battle in LoTR.

Unles... Unless someone can talk sense into the Night's King. "Those were your creators, these are your roots. You have destroyed one already, are you to exterminate the others too?"

I think the fire and dragons will work fine on the wights, but the White Walkers/Others? It is a pretty shitty protagonist that can be taken down by something as common as fire.

In my opinion Dany is going to do well against the wights, and then encounter a white walker. She will then command one of her dragons to burn said white walker. The target of the dragon fire will hold up its hand and the fire will go around him or just be snuffed out. Dany will then have a look of panic as up to this point she has gotten by on the threat of using her dragons. Now her nuclear option is suddenly useless against an enemy she does not understand and has vastly underestimated. The White Walker will look at this insignificant beast and toss one of those magic ice spears at it. The spear will pierce the flesh of the dragon and it gets as low as possible before turning to ice and shattering allowing Dany to survive the fall.

So many people forget that dragons were unavailable during the first Long Night which caused the creation of the Wall and the Night's Watch.
