How else can the Targaryen name continue on if not through Jon?

Dany mentioned not being able to have children this season, which means that if she believes that then she's been having unprotected sex with Daario for years now and still hasn't become pregnant. Yeah, she's barren alright. Changing that all of the sudden wouldn't just seem like cop out, but it also completely undermines the themes in her arc such as considering the dragons her only children and thinking of herself as the ex'slaves' Mhysa.

It's really not hard to explain away. If she's only had sex with one man all that time, they could easily pass Daario off as sterile if need be.

Could this whole maester thing be true? Could the Cotadel really do this. Can someone find specific proof of this because this seems like a great way to move on with Sam's storyline merging back with Jons but it seems like you're reaching a little bit because I've never heard of this before but maybe I just didn't think of the Citadel in that capacity.

We've had plenty of evidence that the Maesters track the lineages of the great houses.

Except it's clearly pointed out that Dany's the one who's infertile after her encounter with Mirri.

Your idea come across as a last minute change only added to make the plot convenient for the character, which isn't at all unsual for the show, but it would also severely undermine some major themes in Dany's storyline (e.g. her thinking of the dragons as her literal children because they're the only kids she'll ever have, her taking on a maternal role for the slaves who she also thinks of her children, who end up temporarily taking precedence over her "actual" children etc). Having her, and the audience, go six seasons believing she's barren only for her to become fertile when in the vicinity of the super hot (subjective) male lead, after she's spent literally no time thinking of who she's going to appoint as her heir, seems like a massive cheat and a cop out.

Either way, we're not going to see Sansa or Dany or whoever birth any children because there's not enough time.

I really just think its silly to state things like you're the one writing the show, or that your opinions are facts. I'm not sure why you're so defensive about your take on the plausibility/implausibility of Dany being fertile. It's something that's been discussed for a long time with no consensus reached, because it's difficult to be certain about something that has yet to be confirmed. Dany thinking she's infertile is not the same thing as Dany actually being infertile.
