so I thought I might as well post this as I thought it would be interesting to share what songs really just make you FEEL A LOT OF THE THINGS because I have been building up a spotify playlist for years called ''songs that make my heart hurt'' and wondered if anyone else has similar go-to songs if they want to have a bit of a EMOTIONS ARE HAPPENING RIGHT NOW.

My big ones i'm gonna start on are Echo & The Bunnymen - The Killing Moon  and Plainsong by the Cure  and Candy Says by The Velvet Underground, especially the version with Antony from Antony and the Johnsons...

so share yours please so i don't feel silly for starting this thread thank you x

also i just really need to add more to my already too long playlist because why the heck not ya know

M83's Outro

The two that come to mind instantly for me are -

Arcade Fire - Porno

Arcade Fire have quite a few songs that are good for this sort of thing, personally I'd say the best is:

Blur - Tender, a lot of the time large crowds aren't the best place to see songs played live but there are exceptions where having tens of thousands of people chanting the chorus together did feel very special.

Radiohead - Black Star

Here you go, Theda.

Seafood - In This Light Will You Fight Me?

I love this song, even though it's a bitter reminder of one of the biggest mistakes I ever made. Stick with it. Takes a while to get going, but get going it certainly does. I think you'll love it.

Thanks mate :) I'll give it a listen !!!

Here's a few more of mine...

Scott Walker - 30 Century Man

Sisters of Mercy - Marian (one of the ULTIMATE STMMHH) i just abbreviated my own thread title good gods

The Pale Fountains - Unless

Now, there's a band I haven't listened to in a long time. It is a good song.

Clint Mansell - The Last Man  ( Or literally any song from the soundtrack of The Fountain, tbh)

I really should watch that film again sometime, I do remember the soundtrack being superb.

I shared a rehearsal studio with them back in the day. Was convinced they were going to be massive. Damn shame they never made it.

Picking a single Sigur Ros for this thread is almost as hard as spelling the name of one of their tracks correctly. I'm going to go with Staralfur.

The Verve - Velvet Morning

Sadly there's a lot of bands that fall into that category. I've mainly listened to their first album out of their work, but I did like it.

Daughter - Love

Really like that one too. Sigh. I wish they would tour Asia at some point :(

I was going to offer up Doing the Right Thing by Daughter but Love is great too.

Also though And the Boys by Angus and Julia Stone but for me that's mostly cause of the time when I heard it.

Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence cause it brings back nice childhood memories and all that.

No One's Gonna Love You by Band of Horses, that version in particular

And For Now I Am Winter by Olafur Arnalds

"Al Bowlly's In Heaven" by Richard Thompson.

A sorrowful and beautiful look into the mind of a discarded WWII vet, who dreams back to when "a uniform was a lucky charm that bought you the key to the city..."  This live version has a lovely soprano sax by the recently departed Pete Zorn, in addition to Thompson's usual soulful acoustic picking.

There's a lot of things that could go here for being generally emotionally impactful and musically great, but if I had to go with something that just personally hits me every time, this is definitely it. The event that made me initially identify with it so much happened almost 4 years ago and yet it still gets me.

Remembering loved ones who've passed away, Death Cab For Cutie - What Sarah Said

Remembering break ups, Motion City Soundtrack - The Conversation

Feeling homesick (not for Ireland of course, but I think the feeling is pretty universal :P), The Irish Descendants - Misty Morning Shore
