Despite what fans want, his parentage is..irrelevant.

LOL, but coming back from the dead, and a sense of immortality, somewhat negates that fact. I don't think it's the dying part that bothers Jon, as much as at whos hands it happened by (his brothers).

That and the realisation there's nothing after death as he experienced it. That can fuck up one's psyche and make one nihilistic. Post-rez Jon suffers from PTSD, he is more reluctant to act and uncertain of calling the shots because he feels like a failure and that no matter what he does, no matter how much he wants to do what's right, it'll not be enough and may just turn out harmful. Like he said. He fought, he believed he was doing the right thing and he lost. No wonder he's feeling disillusioned and weary. It's more realistic than whatever fans imagined for him when it comes to the whole 'death changes you' theme, ie becoming wolfish (whatever the hell that means, like what? he starts eating raw meat and pissing on trees? lol), being suddenly vengeful (when he hadn't been before), more decisive, less lenient, becoming hardened and bossy. That's definitely not a change for the worse as Martin's death and rez process goes.
