Rant and Rave without Repercussions [S7 Leaks Edition]

2 small issues that bothered me when rewatching the season :

- Why Bran told Sam Jon's name was Sand, as he heard Lyanna say Ned it was Aegon Targaryen ? Sound problem in the ToJ vision ?

- Brienne spoke of Arya with Sandor, that was a cool scene. But not a word to Jon about her ?

Nice article. The showrunners and their boys club of other writers and directors have no clue about women nor care to get one.

In Game of Thrones, Jon Snow may "know something" about performing oral sex on Ygritte, but in a show mostly fixated on sex as a dangerous and powerful tool, it's the exception, not the rule...

Starz will never beat HBO at the game that Albrecht himself created: With seemingly infinite resources, HBO's productions will always be lusher, better promoted, and enjoy the "quality" connotations that accompany the HBO brand...

In Outlander, honor is paramount; in Thrones, honor signals the swiftness with which a character will meet their death...

But the most compelling difference between the two series is Outlander's committed, complicated portrayal of women. Game of Thrones is often celebrated, somewhat dubiously, for offering "complex" female characters — who then are killed, objectified, sexually abused, or otherwise stripped, at least in the televised adaptation, of the power and agency that rendered them compelling...

But you know what Outlander has? A woman at its center. That woman, Claire (Caitroina Balfe), is neither hapless nor incompetent. She has a job and we see her doing it. She has complicated thoughts about love, duty, and honor. She argues; she's obstinate; she's unruly. She's passionate and sexual but not sexualized: Halfway through the first episode, there's a sex scene in which she not only receives oral pleasure from her husband, but clearly revels in it. While not completely disrobed! "Her sexuality is part of who she is," Balfe told BuzzFeed. "She is a very passionate woman, with such a zest for life, and her sexuality is very integral to that. She controls that; she has desires. Quelle horreur, women have desires, oh my god!"...

Maybe because it's feminist one. When asked whether Outlander is a feminist text, Gabaldon smartly explained that it depends on one's definition of feminism: "[Outlander] is about a woman, who is quite confident in who she is as a woman, and that's one definition of feminist — you take yourself at your own worth, and you demand that others take you at your own estimation." And the guiding love story of the text is, in many ways, the story of a man becoming a feminist as well: Surrounded by patriarchy, Jamie (Sam Heughan) is nevertheless forced to "take [Claire] at her own estimation"; when they fall in love, it's because both realize themselves as the other's equal.

That annoyed me, too. There really isn't any logical reason that Bran wouldn't have heard her the first time if he could the second time. Feels like it was all a contrivance to make Sam relevant. And bring us that awful, dumbed down narration over #boatincest2017.

Another good point. Guess they thought reunions and sitting in silence waiting for Daenerys made more sense than having Jon and Brienne kill time by having a chat.

Much better. Really points out how cutting Lady Stoneheart and most of the Riverlands story led to all sorts of problems.

Honestly, I'm actually really curious as to where he's going with this. The ideas aren't perfect but they make a lot more sense than what we got so far. The fact that it is so easy for us to "fix" S7 from the benefit of hindsight shows that what GoT really needed was a few more editors to keep the plot straight.

sorry been offsite for a few days.  I was referring to the rumors that D&D hire women for their looks ie tyrions girlfriend, Ros, the show having to satisfy the perverted eye viewership, the misogyny of the show etc.

I am sure the "tell alls" will be be coming regarding casting for this show. They did curiously re - cast Myrcella with Nell Tiger Free for some reason when the original, Aimee Richardson had to seemingly re-apply for her role and came in second when she had been absent for 2 seasons.

There seems to be something icky about the whole production of the show, but that is probably just me.

No, its not you, it is gratuitous. Also, they supposedly casted porn actors here and there, a prostitute too because of their "experience" in showiing it all. Blood, Butts and Boobs is what D&D seem to be aiming for.

*Dragons and tits ;)

And yeah, they definitely hammed all that up. However, that is all toned WAY down these latest seasons. I think it was mostly for eye candy in attracting views, but now they don't need it. Since these latest seasons are basically from D&D, it's easy to see (or assume) that they probably would never have been that gratuitous had it been up to them.

They have already sacrificed logic in order to include all of the raunchy gore and everything else. The story lines make no sense anymore. I do not think it can be salvaged.

Pretty much every (at least american) TV show does this though. It's messed up but it's not at all something exclusive to Game of Thrones.

The first Mrycella was pretty much a glorified extra. Plus they did the same thing with Tommen when he became important to the story. Ditto Beric Dondarrian.

They aged up Tommen to get a post sex scene with Margery. A 17 year old acting like a 5 year old in every other scene.

Poor Tommen. He's still playing with his kittens in the books. Of course, he's doomed, but...

He really wasn't very bright.
