The Knights Templar were the most powerful, wealthy and mysterious military order of the Middle Ages, entrusted with protecting the Holy Grail and harboring secrets capable of destroying the Church itself. Knightfall goes deep into the inner sanctum of the clandestine world of this legendary brotherhood of warrior monks. From their battles in the Holy Land, to their clashes with both the King of France and Pope Boniface VIII, to the betrayal that would ultimately lead to their tragic dissolution on Friday the 13th–a date which became synonymous with bad luck–the story of the Knights Templar has never been fully told until now. Knightfall takes you inside the world to find out who these knights were, how they lived, and what they died believing.

Knightfall  is the story of the Knights Templar, one of the most powerful entities in history. Guardians of the Holy Grail and the road to Jerusalem, and founders of the modern banking system, these knights are inspiration for Arthurian legends and modern-day blockbuster films and books. This epic series chronicles the actual events leading up to and following the persecution, downfall and eventual burning at the stake of the Knights Templar on a fateful Friday the 13th in 1307.

British writer-producer Dominic Minghella will serve as showrunner and executive producer. The production started with three days of filming during the last week of June in Dubrovnik on Croatia's southern Adriatic coast, with Douglas Mackinnon (Outlander) as main director. Metin Hüseyin (Outlander) and David Petrarca (Game of Thrones) will also direct a block each. Set mainly around the Walls of Dubrovnik's Fort Lovrijenac (St. Lawrence Fortress) and the bay of Pile, these scenes will depict The Siege of Acre.

Knightfall will shoot primarily in Prague, Czech Republic, with its base at the Barrandov Studios. Several exteriors imitating medieval Paris has been built in surrounding suburbs/villages including Průhonice, and Doksany. Streets in Old Town and Zvíkov Castle will also be utilized. Filming started on July 8th. This is the same studio that was used for the TV series Borgia, season 2 of Legends, Casino Royale, and The Bourne Identity.

Why has it always got to be about the fall and the Grail? Why can't we get some hardcore international banking action

Maybe we can convince someone to bring a Dan Abraham book to the screen.

:lmao:Lol, @AncalagonTheBlack were did you copy that text XD If memory serves, the Templars were first founded in 1119 and there had been Arthurian legends around for centuries. Most stuff we associate with Arthur had its origin in the 12th century true, but writing that the knights were the inspiration for the Arthurian legends seems presumptious XD

I'm with you. And you know it's all going to end in a bunch of Freemason bullshit.

At least it's not on Fox. Then they would've somehow turned it into a police procedural.

Ah, that's what we get from not supporting/demanding an educated press I suppose :P

Sadly, that is my fear as well. You could make a really interesting straight adaptation about the fall of the Templars, but then you'd have to write a thoughtful and intellectual series I think. This will probably go the way of Da Vinci's Demons or some other silly show in that vein :(

I'm afraid you're right on all counts.  Sigh.  Another Beowulf, likely, which sunk without leaving any traces seemingly.

It has the air of the 'drama' bits from one of those awful drama-docs. Will definitely watch though. Like everyone else, I'm fascinated by the subject matter.

Same for me, I am interested only because of the subject, I know little to nothing about them, but if it sucks, adios!

One has doubts that there will be much if anything included in such a show that will teach anyone anything about the historical Knights Templars.  This is tv with all the signs moreover of bad tv -- and not bad tv in a good way!

Well, it's on History. If there was ever a misnomer for a television station this would be it.
