It's autumn catalog time for German publishers, which means there's some new numbers.

From Heyne's catalog:

700.000 copies of Peter V. Brett's books sold in Germany alone (p. 160).

1 million German-language sales of Christine Feehan's paranormal romances (p. 166).

500.000 Alexandra Ivy books sold in Germany alone (p. 167).

3 million sales worldwide of Italian fantasy author Licia Troisi (p. 168).

J.R. Ward is up to 3.5 million in Germany alone (p. 170).

300.000 German-language sales by Dan Simmons (p. 176).

From Piper's catalog:

From Penhaligon's catalog:

A higher quote for Robin Hobb: more than 7 million in print worldwide (p. 11).

Jeaniene Frost is up to 600.000 copies sold in Germany alone (p. 13).

More catalogs, more numbers.

Blanvalet: Trudi Cavanan has sold 2.6 million books in Germany alone (p. 164).

Royce Buckingham remains a German bestseller, with now 290.000 copies sold (p. 171).

And German numbers for some of the old-timers: 1.7 million for Terry Brooks (p. 185) and 750.000 for Raymond E. Feist (p. 187).

Knaur: Markus Heitz has sold more than 450.000 books of his Pakt der Dunkelheit series, so these would be added on top of his Dwarves sales (p. 20).

Rowohlt Polaris: Hao Jingfang (2016 Hugo winner) has a million books in print in China (p. 14).

Bastei Lübbe: Michael Peinkofer has 850.000 books in print (but that includes a number of non-SFF historical novels) (p. 50).

David Weber has 750.000 books in print in Germany alone (p. 148).

LYX: Paranormal romances are selling like hot cakes: Lara Adrian has sold more than 1.5 million in Germany alone (p. 37), as has Nalini Singh (p. 54). Lynsay Sands has sold more than one million in Germany (p. 69).

It works for me. It is a link to the ASoIaF 2019 calendar. Here is the whole Key Selling Points sequence:

Quote

ORIGINAL CALENDAR WITH ALL-NEW FULL-COLOR ARTWORK: All twelve pieces of art have been commissioned for this calendar, making them never-before-seen additions to this growing franchise.

ARTIST CRED: Artist John Jude Palencar has won Gold and Silver Medals from the Society of Illustrators, two Gold Book Awards from Spectrum and has worked on books for renowned artists like Ursula LeGuin, Octavia Butler, Stephen King, and Christopher Paolini.

SETTING A PRECEDENT: With eight A Song of Ice and Fire Calendars (2011-2018) already completed, we are establishing this as a yearly entry into the George R. R. Martin franchise, picking a new interpretative artist each year.

GRRM CALENDARS SELL: Previous calendars have now sold over 100,000 copies.

THE HBO SERIES IS GOING STRONG: After wrapping the successful 7th season in 2016, Game of Thrones is HBO’s all-time most watched show, surpassing the Sopranos.

BESTSELLING SERIES: There are over 35 million copies of A Song of Ice and Fire series in print, and over 9.5 million in eBook sales.

Brandon Sanderson update

The Way of Kings passed a million copies sold in the US last year, which isn't even mentioning its significant sales around the world. I'm humbled and pleased to see so many people embracing this series, the one I started assuming it would be too long and too strange to ever sell.

Speaking on numbers, I was researching Stephen King stuff for the upcoming review of my reread of The Stand and came across this 1979 NYT article.

When The Dead Zone was first published that year, King already had 4 novels under his belt and the least popular had sold 1.4 million copies in the USA! In the fall of 1979, Carrie was approaching 4 million copies sold! That's not copies in print but sales.

Crazy to think just how popular that author was and still is even though he doesn't move as many units as before.
