EuroCon 2019 - TitanCon Belfast - 22-25 Aug 2019

Recommended Posts

We are thrilled to announce that TitanCon is bidding for the right to host EuroCon 2019 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Proposed dates

Our proposed dates are Thursday 22 to Saturday 24 August 2019. That is the weekend after the proposed WorldCon (currently being bid for and running unopposed) to be held in Dublin, Ireland on Thursday 15 to Monday 19 August 2019.

We will also be running our traditional TitanCon Coach Tour on Sunday 25 August visiting beautiful locations around Northern Ireland that have been used as filming locations in HBO's Game of Thrones. The Coach Tour is an optional extra for convention attendees, but can be considered an essential part of the TitanCon experience including a delicious hog roast feast to round out the weekend.

In addition we will have organised Coach Trips departing from Dublin on Tuesday 20 and Wednesday 21 August to bring attendees from WorldCon up to Belfast for EuroCon. These coach tours will stop at beautiful and interesting locations along the way, making a full day of it for those that want to see a little of the inspiring Irish landscape. Alternatively you could take a journey on the Enterprise train from Dublin to Belfast. Full details about all tours will be announced after we have secured our bid to host EuroCon.

Proposed venue

The venues we intend to use are the newly completed Waterfront Convention Centre and the Hilton Hotel. These two venues are located in the centre of Belfast with spectacular views over the River Lagan. The buildings are right next door to each other, and in fact there is a connecting corridor linking them so attendees do not have to go outside to go from one to the other.

Please see our venue page for more details.

Guests and Programming

We will be offering a diverse and interesting programme of discussion panels and events focussed on European and Irish Science-Fiction and Fantasy literature. We will also have lots of participation workshops including crafting workshops (leather working, chain maille crafting, clay making) and combat workshops run by Historical Fencing N.I. including Broadsword, Staff and other medieval weaponry.

Over the last few years TitanCon has developed a strong reputation for high quality literature programming with great author guests including Ian McDonald, Pat Cadigan, Peter F. Hamilton, Joe Abercrombie, Sarah Pinborough, Adam Nevill, Leigh Bardugo, Adrian Tchaikovsky, Jan Siegel, Peadar Ó Guilín, Ruth Frances Long, Jo Zebedee, Debbie McCune, Laurence Donaghy, Zoé Sumra, Rachel B. Kelly and many more. All of our guests have greatly enjoyed their TitanCon experience and many of them are now regular attendees coming back every year, including Pat Cadigan who absolutely loves TitanCon and has many lovely and generous things to say about our convention.

TitanCon also features dedicated Game of Thrones programming with cast and crew member guests from the hit HBO show filmed here in Belfast. Past guests have included Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Bran Stark), Art Parkinson (Rickon Stark), Kristian Nairn (Hodor), Miltos Yerolemou (Syrio Forel), Eugene Simon (Lancel Lannister), Ian Beattie (Meryn Trant), Kerry Ingram (Shireen Baratheon), Ian McElhinney (Barristan Selmy), Dominic Carter (Janos Slynt) + many more.

It will probably be well into 2019 by the time we know who our Game of Thrones guests will be, but we will annnounce our main Guests of Honour after we have won our bid at Dortmund EuroCon in June 2017.

Get involved

An event like this cannot exist without the help and support of a huge number of people. Everyone working to organise and run TitanCon 2019 are volunteers that give up their free time to help make this a successful convention for all the fans that attend. We are excited to be forming a strong committee from our regular Titancon members, as well as from the wider convention running community. We need to recruit as many volunteers as we can get to take on various roles, both large and small, from our organising committee, department heads, team leads and the hard working volunteers on the ground. We are looking for willing volunteers at all levels.

Please visit our volunteers page for more details and fill in the form to volunteer. Thank you.

Show your support

If you love the sound of our plans and want to show your support then please purchase a Pre-Supporting Membership. The money will be used to fund our campaign to win the bid to host EuroCon 2019. The good news is that the money you spend on a Pre-Supporting Membership NOW goes towards the cost of your Full Attending Membership later. Thank you for your support!

Ok, I bought two Supporting memberships to lock in the current price.  This is an excellent option, and thank you for offering it.  Two major conventions so close together, both in time and place, really have helped me decide on when to make our one visit from the States to see the various GoT locations in NI.  I've got two years to save enough for the trip...
