I have been reading (and fairly impressed) with DC Rebirth. This has taken me for something of a surprise on multiple fronts. Before I walked away from comics (and recently coming back), I used to be an ardent Marvel fan in my youth, particularly of Spider-Man. But now, I'm finding myself drawn to DC and its characters more and more. The past appeal for Marvel has always been for how "human" their characters are, particularly when compared to DC's more "godly" counterparts. Perhaps at this point in my life, I'm simply more interested in reading about idealistic, larger-than-life heroes? Who knows? I also wonder how much of this has to do with nostalgia and fondness towards DC's cartoon line-ups (e.g. the DCAU and Young Justice, etc.).

Yeah, since I've  never been one of the purists who deify *that* comic, I too was pleasantly surprised with it.

Which one do you mean by "*that* comic"? Superman? Or something else?

Spoiler

Well I was referring to Watchmen and Manhattan (and possibly Ozymandias) being incorporated in the DCU

Anybody reading Deathstroke Rebirth ? Priest has managed to make the character interesting again. Easily one of DC's best right now.

it does seem to be getting positive reviews in various places at the moment. Sounds a bit like the sleeper hit Grayson and Midnighter was last year where it gradually gains momentum.

I read the latest issue of The Walking Dead yesterday, and it's the most heartbreaking issue in the series so far, and that's saying something. Kirkman's dialogue is top notch and the art, it's just so raw and emotional. It's the best issue of this series so far.

Regarding The Walking Dead issue #167

I just read it tonight. I admit the deathbed pep talk went on a bit to long and Andrea's toughness to the bitter end was simultaneously frustrating and enjoyable. I was waiting for her to just be vulnerable and show emotion, but you gotta also respect how she was taking car of people even as she died. And no lie, I got  a bit misty when Rick walked outta the house and collapsed into Carl then the group shoulder thing was pretty cool. I think the TV show has definitely influenced how they handle "big" deaths in the comic. I swear when I read the letter from Kirkman at the end of the comic I heard Chris Hardwick's voice.

Welp, im not a fan of Jen Walters' new look, not at all.

What I was hoping for

Instead I get a Spider-man villain, mixed with Abomination. It looks edgy for the sake of being edgy.

That is quite a departure.  Though the second one, Dale Keown, if I'm not mistaken, is awesome!  I absolutely love his art.

I would have been happy with any of those 3. I wanted the big, angry, grey and scarred Jen

But this is how she actually looks and it doesn't work for me without the bigness

It's actually less intimidating than normal She-hulk. All I keep thinking is that this Jen needs to stop hanging out with the Morlocks and get a good meal now and then.

Seems these days people think everything is cringeworthy.

It was a jab to an utterly useless site, but nothing awesome, IMO.

Really? That's how you read it? I read it as an attack on the infamous, "Has Captain America heard of My Space?" from Civil War. Sally Floyd always said Captain America was out of touch with the American people. The thing was, now Sally Floyd is the one who is out of touch. She cares about the loss of civil liberties while the public...doesn't.

It's a nice dramatic reversal.

I thought Civil war 1 and 2 were both hot garbage, so you will have to forgive me if I don't care much for quotes from either.

Well, in stories about freedom vs. security, it's kind of a neat callback but sure whatever.
