I've always known him as Dandelion--except when I read a fan translation of Sword of Destiny years ago and I was like who is Jaskier guy who is trying to be Dandelion? Honestly, I think Jaskier is the way the go. It took me three games and like six books to kind of get used to what they were going for with Dandelion's name. And even then... She'd absolutely kill it as Yen, but she'd also probably be the most expensive star on the show unless they really do get Mads Mikkelson for Geralt (or Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Well, it's Netflix so the budget will be impressive. They might go for Green if they're adapting the first two books (as is rumoured) as I believe she wouldn't be in every episode, which makes it easier to bring her in and out of the story. All you need is someone physically capable; with a cool voice who can hold his own. I think he suits the kind of “badass role” would be cool to see. Mikkelsen would have been a brilliant choice 10 years ago. 5 years ago he could have probably wrangled it. I'm not sure about now, he's in his fifties so will be in his sixties when the show ends. He's in good shape but he's not really an athletic sword-fighting guy in the way Geralt is. OTOH, the books do lowball Geralt running around killing things like he does in the games, and Geralt is actually only one of an ensemble (and arguably isn't even a main character in the last book or two, or so I understand as I haven't gotten that far), and no-one's going to deny that Mads is a great actor, so maybe they could make it work. I'm not sure I put much stock in Sapowski's fancasting, since Mads is his 2nd number 1 choice and Kevin Costner was his 1st. Costner is a very good actor, but he's not Geralt. I don't know how he is in the books, and I've only played TW3, but it seems Geralt has a good sense of humour albeit as dry as a desert. I've not seen Mads try to deliver humour, and I don't get a sense that he has that as part of his range. I think it's also wrong to think that because Witchers are emotionless and one note in their tone of voice that any actor with the right look can pull it off. If anything, as a character that is supposed to carry a series on his back, making Geralt a compelling and interesting character for multiple seasons (hopefully) is a big challenge, and you need an actor that can put a great deal of nuance and subtlety into their performance.
